Law Association of Zambia unhappy with ZNBC

Share

The Law Association of Zambia (LAZ) says it might have to institute public interest proceedings over the breach of the Zambia National Broadcasting Corporation (ZNBC) Act.

This is in the advent of the association citing the national broadcaster, ZNBC for gross abuse of the respective piece of legislation.

LAZ President, Musa Mwenye says ZNBC has on several occasions in its news, broadcast libel and slander with no regard for rights of persons.

Mr Mwenye has further explained that LAZ is exploring means of redress of the situation in the interest of the public.

He has added that ZNBC’s news broadcast is unbalanced and mostly inclined to the MMD, a situation which has been compounded by the absence of a board of directors at the media institution.

  1. Please I will be the first Despondent witness, it is such a disgrace to have people behaving like that in this era. We now don’t watch ZNBC because it is full of lies and malice, too cheap for a normal human being. LAZ that is the way to go, you are really LAZ now.

  2. Why says it might have to institute public interest proceedings Just proceed what a hell are u waiting for when there is prima-facie evidence to institue legal proceedings. Go ahead now chineke oh

  3. Unhappy with ZNBC…..? Join the queue!

Poor quality journalism, totally biased coverage, poor entertainment programs, mundane talk shows, high cost of TV license, news readers who can’t read, etc. Need I say more…..?

  4. If LAZ brings this action will lawyers be allowed to act for the defendants against their own organisation? Why don’t the political parties and others who feel aggrieved take up the action themselves? If LAZ loses the case and legal charges are made against them will all lawyers have to contribute to Musa Mwenya’s pet project?

  5. It is sad that some of us have chosen to completely not watch ZNBC, professionalism has gone to the dogs.
This is really worrisome, Zambia as a country needs a revolution, a change of government.

  6. Everything has been interfered with: the police service, judicial and all parastatal institutions. the man has really taken us backward. he should be kicked out

  7. At last we have a real President in LAZ. I didnt know that they had a new leader. Yesterday there a fight at my drinking place because of the ZNBC TV 19hrs news. The patron fed up with the biased news on the Luapula Chiefs so called endorsement of one RB asked the bar man to change the channel. Apparently there was a brother of our local DC. This brother of the DC insisted that the news channel stays upon which some patrons started to insult the DC. This annoyed the DCs brother who punched some one and a free for all broke out. I fear that if ZNBC continues with this provocative attitude we may not have a peaceful election

  8. Viva LAZ! Please come to the rescue of those toothless Journalists at DeadNBC. You will be serving the greater nation. There are no “others who feel aggrieved” We the masses are aggrieved! its only the MMD who aren’t and this could bring violence as Deja vu states above

  9. I have a problem with LAZ. They behave like politicians, maybe law and politics are one and the same. I honestly feel they also lack professionalism just ZNBC. I remember how the other executive fought the late Mwanawasa ( one of their own). They speak the same language with politicians. They always toll their president’s line. For me, they are not diferent from the ZNBC that they are attacking.

  10. DEAD N.B.C IS USELESS NEEDS TO BE CLOSED.MOBI TV IS BY FAR BETTER THAN DEAD NBC WHICH I ABUSING OUR 3000

  11. i have absolutely no problem with znbc and i want my rights to be respected. i want to watch znbc news and anyway, it is the only way that i can follow government programmes like building schools, hospitals roads etc for which i voted my government into power. if i don’t monitor what the government is doing, how else shall i know what my government is doing for me given that the post deliberately would not give me that information? you only see the bias when you are used to hearing good things about mr sata, but mr sata and rb is not the only news, there is also hon simbao and drugs etc. and these days mr sata is not newsworthy anyway, gay rights, flip flop on mining taxes, failure to attend the funeral of a close colleague, what is newsworthy about an evil man except to watch my back?

  12. PEOPLE WHY COMPLAIN?JUST REGISTER YOUR OWN T.V STATION AND LEAVE Z.N.B.C ALONE.NO ONE COMPELS YOU TO WATCH IT.ZAMBIANS WE HAVE BECOME ARM CHAIR CRITICS WHO WANT TO CRITICIZE ANY THING THAT MOVES . WE ARE STILL CRITICIZING THE STATE OVER THE HANDLING OF THE FTJ FUNERAL.

    • #15 I complain because I am a share holder in ZNBC If u dont pay tax I do. I cant be paying tax just to air Banda’s fake campaign programs. Talking about Chiluba’s funeral and the state thru MMD is still criticizing those who didnt attend Chiluba’s funeral. Wake up man u r still sleeping!

  13. the problem with pf is that they want to politicise every organisation include laz to say positive things about them. those who condemn znbc news are actually doing it in order to prevent people from seeing the tremendous work that government is doing, they want the population to go into collective amnesia and condition them to think sata only to the exclusion of anything, everything and everybody else. look guys we have always watched znbc from inception and it has and will always report about government activities, even when mr sata was in unip and mmd and even if he became president today. so what is the hullabaloo about? laz, mwenya, pf cadres, just fu.ck of.f and tell the post to create a tv channel if you want to see, hear and breathe sata only.

  14. The key word is ‘exploring’, it shows you that nothing can be done about it. Mwenya despite thinking about this situation has no idea what to do or where to start from. Therefore his vibe goes in the category of ‘political statement’, neither wrong nor right.

Surely there will be people who think what ZNBC reporting is just right and there is no legal way to settle peoples ‘impressions’. The man will continue exploring for the rest of his term as LAZ president, bloggers should be assured he will never arrive at anything.

  15. the other reason is that chanda chimba iii has hit pf where it hurts most. just tell sata and post to be consistent and stand for the truth, then you will have no problem with znbc. or tell the post to withdraw their past news on sata, then chanda chimba iii will have no material for his programmes. as long sata and post remain liars, znbc will be there for us the sane majority, the sane voters. i know it’s agony for pf and laz, but shout until you lose your voices, znbc will be there for us, always! sh.it!

  16. we are sick & tired of this ZNBC propaganda!! its such a shame to be subjected to such scam in this era. day-in-day-out its chief so & so has endorsed RB, u mean to say there are no chiefs endorsing the likes of Sata, HH, Milupi, Prof. Chirwa, etc….can someone tell me please….what is so special about these so called chiefs that they should be at the centre of the political affairs??? most of them irritate me with their bootlicking of RB & his minions mwe!!!

  17. “pf govt”, whatever you call yourself….the issue here is not about ZNBC reporting govenment programs, its about ZNBC preaching hatred and “broadcasting libel and slander with no regard for rights of persons” to quote the LAZ presido. any normal thinking person should find this unacceptable whether it is in favor of Sata, RB, KK, Levy, FTJ, Chifire, Lufwekelo, a dog, a frog, your grandpa, whoever….do you get the point???

  18. Any one suporting ZNBC unbalance news is crazzy and has no brains. Do u understand wht balanced political views mean? **** with yo dirty news.

  19. Now LAZ? In the public interest? Oh, boy! Reason has fled to bruitish beasts and now the ‘learned men’ have lost their heads! I have often said that Zambia needs a Press complaints commission or ombudsman. That would have been the body to handle this issue. I have never heard Chanda Chimba 3 or 4 or whatever, but I suppose what he has been publishing is the truth. Otherwise why is he not in court? I have also been told that most of the material is from the archives and in public domain, so what is the problem? The truth hurts and Zambian politicians hate the truth. They would like to ‘shinga’ butter on our faces, buy us chibuku and get our votes. Mwanya, akuna masipa nomba.

  20. News reading throughout the world has changed considerably in the last 20 years. There is not a single news agency that just publishes news and reports as events. There are always biases. Take for example the iconic BBC. The event is reported but they will add, ‘this cannot be verified’ when that item may not be what they would like the public to believe. On the other hand, I agree that news readers at ZNBC are pathetic. This is because there are no schools in Zambia today that teach English SPEAKING. We learn English grammar but speak Benglish, Nyanglish, Engloz, Tonglish, Tumbglish, Lunglish. Kaonglish, Lalanglish, Lambglish etc.

  21. LAZ go ahead.ill support you all the way.Iam really fed up with this channel. You can even see that the Newsreader is at pains to read the items that are just forced on them.Shame on those so called News Editors at ZNBC.

  22. I have since stopped paying the K3,000/- TV levy because it does not save any purpose supporting them.

  23. ALA !STOP PAYING THAT’S YOUR OWN NDABA AND I STILL MAINTAIN START YOUR OWN T.V STATION TO SPREAD YOUR PROPAGANDA OR BETTER SWITCH IT OFF AND SWITCH TO PHILIBAO.

  24. Start your own TV, my foot! Whose TV is ZNBC? It belongs to all of us and in its coverage of events, it must portray an image that encompasses the interests of all the stake holders i.e. tax payers, and that is you, me, Bwezani, Sata, Milupi, HH etc. As the situation stands, the biased coverage stinks, not even “galu ya chiwewe” – “mad dog” can support such a lot of “masalamusi”. That there are people here who diagree with Mwenye clearly shows that prolonged exposure to “masalamusi a mazimumangala” is truly a serious cause of dementia of minds.

  25. Pulamasaka,
The Post does not get a single ngwee from tax payers so are not under any laws of this land obliged to provide balanced coverage. Even during the last last week when an entire head of state declared national moaning for a dead stinking thief, M’Membe and his Post could have held the mother of all parties without breaking any law.
