Sunday Footbal Briefs: Man City Chase Charly Jnr and Blades Go Top of Table

Share

Manchester City are said to be preparing an audacious Pounds 900,000 a-year deal for 14-year-old Charly Musonda Junior of Belgium side Anderlecht.

Chaly is the son of former Zambia international and Mighty Mufulira Wanderers midfielder Charles Musonda who played for Anderlecht from 1987 to 1997.

According to Mirriorfootball, City have joined the race for the teenager who has also attracted interest from Manchester united, Arsenal including Spanish giants Barcelona and Real Madrid.

“Charly is the best of all young talents, a mix of Xavi and Iniesta,” said former Anderlecht coach Jan Boskamp . “There is not a kid at his age who is so brilliant.”

And Konkola Blades coach Keagan Mumba says he is excited about the Chililabombwe sides leading the Super Division table.

Blades beat Zesco 1-0 away at Kafubu Stadium in Luanshya thanks to a fourth minute goal scored by striker Robert Tembo.

The game was shifted from Ndola to Luanshya because Zesco’s home ground turf at the Trade Fair was unplayable following wear and tear from the recent Zambia International Trade Fair held there.

Blades leads the table but one point on 26 points, one more than former chart toppers Power Dynamos.

“We shall not relax to lose focus and become big headed but we shall double our efforts,” Mumba said in a post-match interview.

Zesco meanwhile remain sixth on the table on 20 points from 11 games with two matches in hand.

  1. @1 dull, how on earth hve u nt heard dat zambia does nt comdone duel citizenship n dat those boyz ain’t zambians bt belgians.faz has no mandate ova them n de father cn’t obvious let them switch 4rm being belgians 2 zambians simply becoz poverty here n poor admin of futbal here.luk at de circus at faz n tel me any right thinking parent in de diaspora wud wat their kidz 2 cum play 4 chipolopolo.

  2. Play for Zambia? leave the kids alone in europe #2 correct.

Well done Sharp Razor this is it we are behind you.

  3. #2 You have a point. It is so weird how the goverment in Zambia all these years do not understand the benefits of Zambian dual citizenship. They can pass it as a seperate bill if they really wanted to do it. Just Imagine how many young children whose parents were originally Zambians are doctors, lawyers , engineers, famous actors etc… they can not be classified as Zambian. The country are losing out on a generation who have alot to contribute to Zambia’s welfare if they are accepted through dual citizenship.

  4. Well articulated gentlemen. We have Zambians who are working in the diaspora and are ready to share their expertise when we wake up from the slumber and allow dual citizenship. The 900.000 pounds a year is for the Musonda’s money and not a cent will reach FAZ.He will definitely pay for Belgium. They will develop his talent Belgium than to come and play on the grazing grounds we call stadiums.

  5. #5. Be real. who is going to come and work for Kwacha when they can make Forex !! All proffesionals in technical feilds keep running away for Zambia and now you are telling us some would declare to be Zambians ? Talk about conditions of service as a starter to entice people to denounce. Not our nonsense !

  6. If his that highly rated then it should be reflected in the amount the club is prepared to pay. Other clubs have in the past paid millions to lure underage skilled players. My advise is for the parents to wait until the boy is old enough to sign a mega multi-million pound deal. I’m sure the boy hasn’t a Zambian passport therefore not a loss to Zambia at all. If he were really to play in the premier league he’ll be referred to as Belgian national rather than Zambia.

  7. Where did this news come from.
Last time i checked Sky sports and BBC on line there was no mention of this.
Considering the money involved and the hype i would expect some official comment from one of the big clubs.
May be just a malicious rumour.

  8. #7 Alot of countries have dual citizenship including countries like Ghana, Nigeria, Britain, Australia etc. They are not stupid ….Dual citizenship does not mean one denounces any country. On the contrary it does the opposite. In the long term the absence of dual citizenship makes Zambia lose a generation of young Zambians. For example, if the young footballer in this story is Belgian, he is considered a total foreigner according to the Zambian law even if he invests in Zambia.

  9. Like father like son; Charley senior was one of the great midfielders (if not the best) of his generation. He had the vision to pass the ball and was a total joy to watch! Good luck for the future young Musonda!

  10. Too early to get excited about this. Although if it does happen, I believe FIFA rules dictate that a player can still switch countries (as long as he can prove allegiance to that country) while still under 21.
