There is progress on Barotse issue – RB

President Rupiah Banda

President Rupiah Banda has sais a team of senior government officials constituted to look into the issue of the Barotse agreement has made good progress in its work.

In a statement released last evening by his special assistant for press and public relations Dickson Jere to brief the nation on the Barotseland agreement and the ongoing dialogue between government and the Barotse royal establishment, President Banda says he expects the team to conclude its work in the near future.

President Banda says following the presentation of the Barotse national council resolutions, his government has been actively dealing with the issue, and calls on the people of western province and Zambians to appreciate the efforts government is making.

He added that dialogue with the Barotse royal establishment has continued even after the presentation of the resolutions for purposes of seeking clarity on various issues so that the matter is concluded in a manner that is realistic and satisfactory to all concerned parties.

Mr. Banda has also commended the Barotse national council for emphasizing the fact that it is not secession from the rest of Zambia which is being advocated.

President Banda, however, described as unfortunate that inspite of the Mongu fracas early this year, some politicians have continued to take advantage and tried to hoodwink the people of western province into believing that the issue of restoration of the Barotse agreement of 1964 can be resolved overnight.

  1. So you have finally accepted that YOU MESSED UP BIG TIME?? Pity yuo fnd it BENEATH YOU TO SIMPLY SAY SORRY!! That is the problem with being big headed, you feel it denigrates you!!
Unfortunately PEOPLE HAVE DIED!!! You may twist some barotse chaps with money, BUT WE WILL STILL REMEMBER, someone ORDERED GUNS ONTO THE STREETS OF MONGU!! We wonder who, IF NOT THE COMMANDER IN CHIEF??

  2. Why is it that we never hear anything credible from SATA? Even the POST which puts him in the paper everyday never reports anything of national value about him. Is it because he never says anything worth writing about? The seem to just show pictures of him.

  3. mr bwezani its too late to change the hearts of the people of western. they have already made their decisions. its change and that is final.

  4. “President Banda says he expects the team to conclude its work in the near future.”
What near future hes he talkn about, does that need years to come up with a solution?
A solution can be made in 90days, he just blind pipo coz he knows he will do nothng.
Dn’t waste our time rubbish bin (RB).

  5. Better late than never. RB is a diplomat, remember the issues of mines PF called for radical change, MMD called for dialogue and finally the government and mines reached a win/win situation. The mines have since paid up, results roads, bridges, schools and others. Barotse agreement requires level headed people to engage in dialogue and away from the public. RB will always win coz he is proactive and not reactive. Poor Finishers. Sata is sick.

  6. I think this statement has to be the biggest joke of the year, and quote: “President Banda says he expects the team to conclude its work in the near future”. What future is this man talking about? If I were him, I would do one of two things, start constituting a team of lawyers pronto or start making arrangements for refugee destinations sooner than later. He should learn from what happened to Chiluba, he will if not careful spend the rest of his useless and most destructive life in jail. Only time will tell!

  7. There is a strong rumour that Barotse is getting in independence.Am told everything has bn put in place.Even the currency has bn designed.Could this be the reason why RB is panicking.Ten powerful nations have so far agreed to recognise the new nation.RB IT IS TOO LATE.

  8. RB ‘s handlers mishandled everything from the word go. This will cost him a fortune in terms of votes. And listening from pronouncements by old Namakando that RB and mMD will sweep clean 100% votes is like expecting to grow hair on an egg. Following what happened in Jan 2011 in Mongu people are still unhappy with MMD govt and no wonder the opposition especially PF has gained ground and MMD acnt accept such a loss. A snap look at happenings on the ground it should give worry coz constituences such as Kafue, Chongwe, Katuba, Mporokoso, Solwezi Central, Kafulafuta, Chipata Cebtral and Mongu MMD will lose a lot of votes. MMD should rebrand itself and win back pipo’s confidence in such areas otherwise they should forget it all. They shoud heed Katele’s free advice.

  9. ITS TOO LATE BAMUDALA….. KUYA BEBELE…..U’VE KILLED INNOCENT LIVES AND U CLAIM 2 CONCLUDE THE ISSUE…BRING THEM BAK 2 LYF AND DIALOGUE WITH THEM, NOT WASTING OUR TYM LISTENING 2 YO SHIT…….

  10. President Rupiah Banda has failed to do what all true leaders do, that is, to seriously address what he refers to as ‘the Mongu fracas’ and apologise for the torture, maiming and murders of the Lozi people by his police. There will be no progress without genuine remorse and regret from him. All he is saying now is aimed at hoodwinking the Lozis to vote for him and this is not leadership but pure selfishness and raw pride. The Lozis are hurt and that is it!

Win/win is not a technique, it’s a total philosophy of human interaction. It is a frame of mind that constantly seeks mutual benefit in all human interactions. Win/win means that agreement or solution are mutually beneficial, mutually satisfying. All parties feel good about the decision and feel committed to the action plan. Win/win sees life as a cooperative, not a competitive arena. Win/win is not your way or my way, it’s a better way, a higher way. This is a WIN/LOSE situation, it is the authoritarian approach, I get my way, you don’t get yours. Good day and God bless you.

  12. Your Excellency Mr Rupiah B. Banda / All political leaders / Voters
Western Province and Zambians to appreciate the efforts government is making? Efforts is all we expect when (we voters) appoints you and other leaders to decide on our behalf, to bring development and employment in this nation so that we all benefit equally, we want feel proud of our nation (I love my country). WE DO NOT WANT EFFORTS WHEN DAYS ARE RUNNING TOWARDS ELECTION DATE BUT WHEN WE PUT YOU IN POWER.
History is a great teacher. If

  13. History is a great teacher. If we look at the history of our nation we can see what is happening. First, create a national emergency and set yourself up as the savior, the hero. Secondly, take control of the political system as much as possible. Thirdly take as much of the wealth as you can possibly take without drawing suspicion to yourself. Fourthly, nationalize as much of the private sectors as possible. Just as we expect our leaders to be truthful, we expect them to abide by the law and respect our courts and judges. This, instead, is about beginning the long road back to regaining the high standards of truth and democracy upon which our great country was founded 20 years ago. To you voters please vote wisely, don’t treat your vote as a CHESS GAME it’s your future, our future……

  14. HAHAHA… EVEN THE PRESDO IS SCARED. WHAT A TURN OF EVENTS. WE THOUGHT HE WOULD MEET THIS HEAD ON BUT NOW FEAR IS CREEPING IN. AM AMUSED AT HOW POLITICIANS SWEAT IN AN ELECTION YEAR. I THINK HAPPINESS IS NOT IN STATE HOUSE. WHAT NEXT? AM REALLY ENJOYING KICKING THESE POLITICIANS THIS YEAR.

  15. I bet you thought pipo of Barotseland are fools… blood has been shed … we shall never forget and will use this year’s election to sort you out.

  16. ANOTHER LIE FROM RUPIAH BANDA. WHEN LAST DID RUPIAH SAY THE TRUTH BECAUSE WHAT I GET THESE DAYS FROM HIM USUALLY ARE JUST BUT LIES. IMAGINE A 74 year Old Man Lying, WHAT A SHAME

  17. sata should have been called Bwezani..what agreement are u talking bout RB…?kwahae its real change..20HH

  18. Those Barotseland activists, the Litunga and generally all of western province should thank Mr Michael Sata that the government is now paying attention to their divisive document. RB has agreed to discuss the issue only to gain popularity is western province. Mr Sata truly wants to use the Barotseland agreement as a blue print to decentralise governance of all of Zambias nine provinces. In this way the Zambia will remain one country but with provincial Goverements under one Federal Government. Michael Sata has given them a run for their money and thats why RB is now paying more attention to issues of Governance.

  19. this is the way to resolve national issues, rational thinking, analysis and wide consultation, not one man acting on impulse on things that he hardly understand just because he wants votes. ba pf ni nsoni chabe, they never expected to hear that rb is on the ball regarding bre. pf cadres prepare for more shocks nafuti nafuti alimwi as rb continues to show you his mettle.

  20. #13 You are just daydreaming, first and foremost there is no place in Zambia formally known as ‘barotseland’. For you to claim that that there is a new nation waiting to be caved out of Zambia is mere wishful thinking because it can never happen purely based on the wishes of a few tribal fanatics. Unless of course the President is also considering caving out a new Province call Kafue Province whose proposal has once again reached State House via VP Kunda who attended the Kazanga Ceremony of the Nkoya people in Kaoma district, Western Province just last Saturday, July 16th. In short, it can’t happen overnight, that is, if it can happen at all. The matter is complex no wonder the President can not even give a specific date to resolve this delicate matter. For Nkoyas, it’s One Zambia….

  21. One Zambia, One Nation. The Nkoya Royal Council has good working relations with the government of the day and see no reason or benefit of trying to disassociate with theRepublic of Zambia, that is why the N.R.C. and the N.R.E. will always work with the government of the day to foster development in Kaoma district and other Nkoya areas.
