The Citizen Economic Empowerment Commission has approved and funded about 100 Rice farmers in Mongu district in Western Province.

Speaking during the handover of cheques in Mongu yesterday, Western Province Permanent Secretary Seth Muleya said government under the leadership of His Excellency Dr. Rupiah Bwezani Banda is committed to ensuring that the CEEC fund is accessed by the common man in the rural areas of the country.

Mr. Muleya said government has made necessary adjustments on requirements of accessing the funds coupled with the decentralization of CEEC loan approval process which is currently being done at the province level.

He said since October 2010 when the loan application process was adjusted and decentralized, a total number of 221 projects worth over K2 Billion have been approved and funded in the Province.

The PS further said from the time it was established, CEEC has disbursed a total of K8.9Billion to 268 projects which has in turn created over 700 jobs for the people of Western Province.

AND Mongu District Famers Association Chairperson Rose Mubita thanked the Citizen Economic Empowerment Commission for funding rice growers
in the district.

Miss. Mubita said the decentralization of CEEC to a level where famers are able access the funds will enhance rice production in the district.

She has since urged rice farmers who have benefited from CEEC not to expose their produce to briefcase buyers and assured farmers that MODFA will buy their rice at a good and profitable price.

Earlier, CEEC Provincial Coordinator Davis Sitali said after consultative meetings with MODFA his organization decided to fund rice growers because the amounts they applied for was genuine and realistic.

Mr. Sitali noted that the funding which is meant to buy rice seed and other inputs will increase the farmer’s income at house hold level.

The Citizen Economic Empowerment Commission also funded Mongu District Famers Association with K40 Million to enable it buy rice from farmers
once harvested.

  1. Rubbish ploy by RB regime… We welcome the probe of BAROTSE DEATHS by tha might ACTIVISTS… Blood HELL !!!!

  2. Mongu District Famers Association with K40 Million to enable it buy rice from farmers.

Please use this money wisely to set up an accountable and modern electronic records system of procurement for operations and payments to farmers.
We hope there will be a service to provide when needed and not one greedy fat cat licking his lips in 6 months from now.

  3. Good move by CEEC. However, let us learn to do things pro actively rather than waiting until you are put in a tight corner. Developmentals funds must flow regularly without waiting for elections time.

  4. HOW MUCH RICE CAN THEY BUY FROM FARMERS WITH 40 MILLION? HOW MANY FARMERS WILL BENEFIT? HOW MUCH WILL THEY GET EACH? HOW WILL THIS EMPOWER THEM? IF ONE CAN BLOW 5 MILLION AT CHEZ NTEMBA IN ONE NIGHT WHAT CAN A FARMER DO WITH THE SAME IF ONLY 8 FARMERS IN THE WHOLE PROVINCE BENEFITED FOR EXAMPLE. RU.BISH POLITICS

  5. “CEEC has disbursed a total of K8.9Billion to 268 projects which has in turn created over 700 jobs for the people of Western Province”

That means that each project has about 2 people employed . What kind of projects are these? This is also an average of K33m per project.

  6. 700 jobs and what is the population of able bodied eligible workers without jobs, let alone graduates. This is a joke. I have a small business in England with operating capital much less than £10 000 yet I employ 6 people on a rotary basis and they all seem to be happy. pathetic. Structures are wrong. If I take into account that Zambia is a in ‘middle income’ group of countries. Figures still don’t add up. Pathetic!

  7. Donchi Kubeba, Barotse, take the money, donchi kubeba!! Dora Siliya Banda took the money from governemnt, what about you, just take

  8. Bwezani must be an imbecile gone full circle. Does he really think Zambians are so gullible so as to fall for his stinking electioneering alms when all the other times “ki munna wa mango?” He should just start packing his “tuchola”, come the day after elections he will be in Blantyre seeking refuge, he will be taught a lesson he will never forget, kuipa pa menso mambala!
