PRESIDENT Banda has declared September 20, September 20 a public holiday. Secretary to the Cabinet Joshua Kanganja said in a statement yesterday that this is to allow all eligible registered voters to cast their votes.

Dr Kanganja said Government is, therefore, appealing to all employers to ensure that the holiday is observed to enable all employees to cast their vote.

“To enable all eligible registered voters to have an opportunity to exercise their right to vote and elect leaders of their choice, His Excellency the President Mr Rupiah Banda has declared Tuesday, September 20, 2011 a public holiday,” Dr Kanganja said.

He said voters are encouraged to take advantage of the public holiday to vote early to avoid congestion at polling stations towards the end of the official voting time.

  1. PF must demand voter’s card to their supporters. so that they can have a better assessment who are real voters. The same cloud who were at PF rally will the same people who will be at UPND on saturday esimated to be around 220 000 people and the same will go to MMD. So we must not believe on the cloud at the rally people have different opinions about their leaders but I still believe HH will give them a big shock in this elections…!!!

  2. Too late bwana Rupiah Bwezani Kumuzi Banda. Do peolple have for the elections to be given good conditions. after elections you go to sleep?

  3. thanx mr President for declaring 20 sept 2011 a holiday, as it marks your declaration of a holiday in Zambia since the electrolate will retire you back to chipata in peace and not peaces.

  4. So how many Public holidays are you chaps in Zambia gonna have this year? Why not just open the Polling Station at 06:30 close at 20:00hrs… its all about flexibility, how can you have a holiday on a Tuesday haven’t bothered to think that people  will call in sick on Monday. Time is money chaps!!

  5. Fellow Zambians as we go to the polls next we week lets vote wisely and vote for RB not Sata twapapata!!!! Otherwise, we shall have another bye-election soon and begin to gather at embassy park again. We do not want this to happen.

  6. Ohhhh i love this president.thank God hes going to continue as a president.i wish the holiday was on wednesday so that the PF be given time to nurse their hearts.VIVA RB God chosen leader.i think Sata’s gift to urgue and critise its also a nice gift not a leader.

  8. #10 John Chinena – Are you a witch trying to kill Sata? As far as death is concerned, anyone can go at any given time(accidents, heart failures, blood clots, etc as causes). Watch your statements – you might not live to see the elections yourself as God can call upon you any time. Be positive and wish everyone good health and success. There’s just no room for your retrogrssive comments

  9. This is very si.lly. Someone with a bit of commonsense would have seen to it that elections are held on a Friday or Saturday!

  10. Dora Siliya is not cultured as Sata stated.I jst hope alangizi from Eastern will organisethemselves and rebrand Dora so that she can be a woman once men can waste their time to consider.

  11. we dont need the president s declaration of public holidys. It should be enshrined in the zambian constitution that when the country is holding the tripatite elections the day will be a public holiday because elections will never be held on a saturday or sunday.

  12. This is just a recipe for encouraging violence declaring Public holidays on Election day even in developed countries its not a holiday, what do you think people will do after the cast vote, go to the bar or buy those Tujilijili and hang around!!
Iwe chi RB Banda think use your fat head for once!!!

  13. Just do the right thing go and vote and go and wait for the outcome..ofcpurse if youa re PF and follow the advise of your President you will sleep at the polling station to finish counting but with your invisible ink theory am not sure what you will be counting..all the best because SATA will be busy snoring hoping you can fight for him..but he has already told you dont fight or feel sorry for him feel sorry for yourself….

  14. Election day need not be a public holiday. Employers need only be flexible and allow employees to take turns in going out to vote. Besides, the elections can go on till late. This is a sure recipe for anarchic behaviour on the day. People while begin by drinking heavily on the eve of the elections on the pretext of analysing the ballot. Apart from casting a vote the following day, presumably while ‘hang overed’ for many, there won’t be much else to do but continue with the drink ups! Then premature drunken celebrations will follow and confrontations will be inevitable. Oh! sorry, I am probably hallucinating, right?

  15. It shows how this government respects citizens’ rights and freedoms. I hope the voters will not make a mistake of voting into office a dictator satana. Viva RB, wait for my vote on 20th chwee chwe chwe chwe chweeeeee eeeee
