Clifford Mulenga Expelled from Camp

Share

Clifford Mulenga has been expelled from the Africa Cup.

The Bloemfontein Celtic winger was ejected by coach Herve Renard for breaking the teams curfew rules with three other players while the team was in Malabo over the weekend.

Faz communications officer Erick Mwanza confirmed that Mulenga was no longer part of the team after breaching curfew rules in camp.

The player was sent home just after the team landed in Bata on Tuesday from Malabo where they beat Equatorial Guinea 1-0 on January 29 to advance to the quarterfinals.

Mulenga traveled with the team from Malabo to Bata on the same day.

He had not also featured in any of Zambia’s Group A matches at the Africa Cup prior to his expulsion.

And Mwanza declined to name the other three players saying it was in the interest of team unity ahead of Zambia’s quarterfinal clash against Sudan on February 4 in Bata.

  1. Discipline is very important and Renard must be commended for that. I would also do the same. Where was this clifford going, drinking mbamba or hunting for sex? Good ridance by the coach

  2. Ba LT please, check your facts! Clifford Mulenga was a substitute in the EG match. This is sad. I hope this will not bring problems in the team. Remember the French Saga at the World Cup in South Africa… Boys be serious, it is not your holiday… you are spending tax payers money. We want the cup to come to Zambia…. Mulenga has always been a problem. I thought the boy had changed?

  3. One bad Apple spoils the bunch. When you belong to a team, you follow the rules of the team that have ben established. One Zambia One Nation.

  4. if its realy displine renard wantd he wud hav expelled all those who were with clifford.but in my opinion its nt displinaly bt sumthng more 2 it than we know.firstly he is taken due popular demand then they find a way of sendng him back living the othaz.read in between lines pipo.sum1 doesnt like th boy.

  5. What about the other three players! I know Rainford was part of the group but it’s because he is the key player, he should have been sent packing too.

  6. As discipline is important as anything serious thats sad for a team which is doing so well so far.And what are curfew rules? what do they state? anybody knows? discipline is cardinal to anything in life. remember world cup 2002, 4 NIGERIAN’S players were sent home for lack of discipline in the camp. Ba LT Naimwe dont mislead people clifford was a substitute for kalaba in the last game zambia played, check your facts.

  7. According to MUVI TV, the other three players are Mbesuma, HH & Sakuwaha. I wonder why Mulenga was used as a sacrificial lamb..

  8. Young players find out how Kalusha stayed long in football. Why Eto is still doing fine despite having all the money he needs in the world. A time for reckoning will definitely come for you. Football is a very short career which you should make the best out of.

  9. This is not the time we should be having such news in our camp. It is disturbing and a demoralizing. The press can use this to finish our boys. So far on the pitch they have shown discipline. Baiche be serious please, you are on national duty!!!!
Tu gelo awe! This is how match fixing is done these day. Teti muteye bwino bola nga mwatampa amawala.

  10. We would rather lose with respect than win with an unrully bunch. AFCOn is just for a short period of time, there after the boys are free to do what they like with their life, for now they agreed to raise the flag of Zambia hence they must all play by the rules. The other three must also come home.

  11. Clifford is a gud player bt H.R doesnt like him. He had 2 find a way 2 get rid of him. I feel for Clifford. It’s not all abt discipline bt samthing strange is cooking… Hw can 3 players commit an offense and only 1 is expelled. it doesnt make any sense.. Faz should have just kept quiet than 2 give us such sad news when our hopes are so high…

  12. It is important to show contrition and apologize when you do something wrong! Some of these boys think by playing in RSA they are untouchable. Or are entitled to a place on the National Team; NO, NO, NO, and NO!

Maybe the other two showed some regret and apologized to couch for their behavior. In any career, if you become big-headed too soon, you will never go far. Clifford may be a good player, but talent alone ain’t enough to take you far in football. Kalusha is a Zambian soccer legend not only for his talent on the pitch, but how seriously he took his soccer career too!

There have been plenty of talented young soccer players who ruined their careers for lack of DECIPLINE. So Clifford Mulenga should decide to what level he wants to take his career next!

    Good luck guys!

  13. The other three players apologized but clifford couldn’t but whatever transpared respect is important clifford being the youngest was supposed to be the first to beat the curfew.

  14. If we go past Sudan on Saturday, we will be playing either Tunisia or Ghana in the semis. We all know that these a serious teams and it will be very stupid of the boys to think they have got all what it takes based on the group A results…..

  15. LETS JST WAIT FO CLIFFORD TO LAND AND HEAR FROM THE HORSE’S MOUTH,AND HE MUST MAKE A PRESS CONFERENCE FOR THIS,SO THAT WE HEAR WAT REALLY TRANSPARED.THIS IS THE NATION DUTY AND HE MUST TELL US THE FACTS.SO THAT WHEN WE GAMBLE WE DONT BLAME H.R FOR THIS ACT TO BE THE CAUSER.

  16. Everybody stop SHOUTING… why are you not blaming KAMWANDI or whoever you have there as team manager. He was busy stuffing his stomach with fi-nshima, instead of taking care of the players.
At last match he forgot substitute cards, now he forgets players outside!! FIRE the Team manager immediately, what a Zambia. Sorry mwaice Clifford.

  17. Clifford was only added to the team after a massive public outcry but even after being called by the powers that may, he was confined to the bench. It is ridiculous for anyone with half a brain to fall for the notion that four players broke curfew and only one has to pay the price really?! Clifford is not Jesus so he should not be made to pay for everyone else’s sins! Galu is just afraid of having his playing record broken by the massively talented lefty! The world voted Clifford as one of the top 3 players in the WORLD at the 07′ – 08′ junior world a feat Kalu can only dream of so in the grand scheme of things he decides to PHd and chingale on the young man!! Shame on you Kalusha for using Renard to fight your petty battles!!

  18. Indiscipline cannot be tolerated. Anybody wonder why we lost in the semis in 1996? This is the very reason we lost that CAN Cup. Man, that trophy was ours garanteed. Alas, a whole bunch of players beat the curfew on the eve of the game against Tunisia–drinking and womanising. To this day I can still vividly see them soaked in sweat, confused, and disjointed. In my entire life I have never seen a sweat drenched team like zambia 1996 in the semis against Tunisia. Our problem in Zambian football is that we easily get big headed after we beat a few teams . We can’t seem to hold our peace and patience untill we have beaten the last of them all. Ever wondered why we have never collected ka AfCon cup as yet? Clifford, Mbesuma have a discipline problem. Viva HR, Viva Chipolopolo 2012!

  19. Hevre renard uyu nyina chinyohh tatemwa umwaiche na pa first it had to take people`s outcrys for the boy to be included in the team.let`s hope they go out mu quater final we see his pride, but ena chikalaah na QF ni achievement he even finds latitude to cross teams

  20. Let’s just hope that the team does not take this action negatively because for us to pull through we really need displined players and those players who aim for the sky not the clouds.

  21. The Others are Mbesuma as usual where there is Women and Shake shake involved he is there. Elyo Shake Shake iya ku Equatorial Guinea ikali very potent. Others are Hichani Himonde and Sakuwaha. All are drunks.

  22. ANY WAY ITS NOT THEY LEFT THE OTHER THREE, AT MANCHESTER ROONEY TOOK WITH HIM THREE PLAYERS TO DRINK AND HE WAS THE ONLY ONE WHO WAS DISCIPLINED.MAYBE THE THREE WANTED TO GET BACK TO CAMP BUT HE STILL INSISTED TO HAVE A NICE TIME WITH A PROSTITUTE ( AMAULE YALAWISHA)

  23. 26@Masney. Even you, you dont believe what you are writting. Clifford has failed to shine in SA. If he was that good, he would have been playing for Chiefs, Pirates or Sundowns, eben in SA the boy has displine problems. Mark Gleeson, a top SA soccer experts says he is: Head Strong.” You say he is better than Kalu? How come he has never been recorginsed at club level in SA? What has Kalu got to do with his performance at club level? That is why boys like Mayuka will go far, they have discipline

  24. Those who follow football circles know that its no secret that there is bad blood between Clifford and Herve Renard

    • He SHUDN’T HAVE LEFT CAMP IF HE KNEW THAT!! IT IS STUPID TO CHALLEGE YOUR BOSS WHEN HE HOLDS THE CARDS!! Serves the boy right!!

    • though, because even Jonas and mbesuma are not in good boots but these 2 were fogiven and given the second chance, why didnt he just apologised? he is just big headed, let him come back and start watching his frends on TV.

  25. It’s no good to speculate on matterz you know little about, but I can smell a big rat, a very big dead rat! Very sad that az team doing so well so far, we should make headlinez all for the wrong reazonz.

  26. Herve Rernard hates Cliford Mulenga.I know this because you cannot pardon the players and punish only one.The measure is too harsh

    • if u have 4 childrens and all of them have done something wrong, then three of them apologise for their wrong doings and the fourth one refuses to acknoledge the wrong thing he has done, what do u do to your fourth child?

  27. 38, Clifford refused to apologise, the rest did, what was the coach supposed to do? Zambian players are just stupid, no wonder they dont go far and die broke

    • dont say zambian players coz you sound as if u are saying anyone as long as he is a zambian playing football is stupid, watch your language, better u say “SOME Zambian players” so control your statement.

  28. what about the afficail who was also sent back? what did he do? was he the one fighting Herve Rernard during the last match? weed need a report FAZ

  29. what about the officail who was also sent back? what did he do? was he the one fighting Herve Rernard during the last match? we need a report FAZ

  30. has this little rat heard of emmanuel zulu? very wel talented player but lacked the most cardinial thing discpline….were is he now? ba cliford kuleni

  31. Clifford, you should have apologised, you dont lose anything. At times your boss just want you apologis, even if you know that you are not wrong. i hope this wont affect the rest of the team on Saturday.Go Zambia Go. You need to beat Sudan, we are behind you, please dont be discouraged about the issue of Clifford, jst play the game and concentrate and make sure you score in the first half.

  32. Even in a mob ,Police will only pick 1 and show example to the rest.Meaning ,if you escpaed ,you will never ever in your life repeat the nonsense

  33. good move HR. If cliff was allowed to stay after refusing to apologize, then players could have lost respect for HR. Then all hell could have broken loose. Discipline is the conerstone of all major achievements in our pursuit of happiness. those who aim high in life know this.

  34. lets hope all those people who were calling for his inclussion in the team have seen why this boy hasnt been chosen for nation duty with who ever coach comes to coach our National team. thats the end of his national team career.

  35. Good move by HR. Discipline is vey important. I would advise fellow Zambians to let the coach do his job and avoid interference. We will judge him by his final results. Go Zambia \:d/

  36. @# 43, Yes I umwaiche remember Emmanuel Zulu when he playing for Striker Rovers. The boy was so talented. But Indiscipline finished him! I just hope it’s not Kalu & Rena trying to bring the boy down! First tukofwe efyo akalanda Clifford Mulenga Pa KK Airport nga landin’ga.

  37. Could it be that when the four were out Clifford disappeared and the other three ended up looking for him resulting in all four breaking the curfew rule. If this was the case then obviously, Clifford was the main culprit. Anyway the truth will out once he has opened his mouth on the issue. On the whole, our young footballers need close guidance before they mess up their careers.

  38. I am not Bemba but there is a wise Bemba saying that “Makunkutu talanda ico bamuputwilile” – its very difficult to get the truth from Clifford, we will need to hear from both sides; clifford and FAZ as well. Best wishes utupolopolo.

  39. I wish it was Mbesuma who was expelled. He doesn’t do anything but exhibit a serious level of laziness that can have a trickle down effect. That guy is bad for the team. Clifford must have followed Mbesuma but he later refused to go back to the hotel with Mbesuma after hooking up with a local. Bust a nutt and trash your future Clifford, no Man U for you *****.

  40. whatever happened, the whole bunch are an embrassment..i mean breaking curfew rules just for three weeks during a tournament for that matter..? what will other teams or reporters think of such negative reports.why? are they starved with life when not in camp or they are just trouble shooters..no wonder they will never get into proper top class clubs because they don’t have time for such rubbish. good coach discipline them..by making example on one(1).

  41. The boy has an attitude problem. Just too big headed. How can one compare Clifford and King Kalu the only Zambian to have won The African Footballer of the Year? Clifford will never get there anyway! It’s only now that his career is trying to pick up at club level. If he’s that good as some fools claim, why doesn’t he play for any of the top teams in RSA? We don’t a bench warmer to stir confusion in camp. If Anelka was expelled from the French team at the World cup, who is Clifford to be spared for his lack of discipline?

  42. If they get medals Mulenga will still get his.So why expel him?Iam aware discipline in such matters is important but the coach kills team spirit. He cant come u with a good first eleven. How do you send in Mbesuma and substitute him.Thats murder by a coach! You put in Clifford when there are 5 seconds left. What name do you call that? The coach is hopeless. The team is winning not because of the coach it is due to Kalusha.Ever noticed that Kalu is always in the tunnels.GOD BLESS ZAMBIA.

  43. @Kabwata Dallas Did you know that one of the petty reasons why young Clifford is hated is because they say he speaks clean English like a true Lsk ‘yo bally?’ True story!! That said y’all know the Frenchman is fluent in French not so much in ZedGlish and its very possible there was miscommunication here. Born and raised in Zambia, which one of you can see Clifford or yourselves standing up to your boss and saying, “Am late but I wont apologize!!” The poor kid is being framed and thank God for online media because we are going to hear his side of the story got a change! And yes Kalu see Clifford as a threat to his legacy because given the right conditions Cliff can excel…..give the kid a chance!

  44. What this decision has done is not only demoralize the troops in the locker room but we have essentially scored an own goal. At a critical time like this there are plenty of avenues to explore in as far as instilling discipline is concerned. Other than washing dirty linen in public in the middle of a war, the silly Frenchy could have continued to leave him on the bench and justify his actions by issuing a comprehensive statement AFTER the tournament. If Zambia advances Renard wil be a hero but should they lose to Sudan (which they have done before), Zambians wil never forgive him for the Clifford connection!!!

  45. There is no smoke without fire, we have the smoke that Clifford broke the rules and we are not sure of the fire. we wait when the team comes back coz even if HR does not say the truth the other players will. My own opinion is that whatever it could be, Clifford must have been seriously wrong somewhere coz HR is not mad besides the other players who where with clifford could have even protested if it was that unfair but something must be fish. Its sad for the entire team, it ruins the national reputation and the reputation of other desciplined players. This is the time when big teams hunt for players but its unfortunate that their reputation has been spoiled. Did you hear that some time back Ivory coast players where detained upon arival from afcon with an early exit? We must try it.

  46. We must detain them atleast for a week if they lose againt Sudan upon arival. Coz some of these players seemingly dont know where the money they are using is coming from. The four players who went out must surely face FAZ punishment. HH and Kalaba if truly they were out then they are stupid *****s, I leastly expected that from these two brillient players who have a great future. I have been praying for Kalaba at least to find a good club and I thought after the afcon he was to make it but woooh! I feel bad, is it a case or destined that some people should remain poor? I dont understand. As for Mbesuma its sad coz he is already finished it was his time to prove soon Golden Arrows will get rid of him. Sakuwaha, embarrasment. Now you see fellow fans the reasons why HR never wanted them

  47. Pandor was they best team manager zambia has had,,With him in camp this kind of behaviour is not their…dat manager is useless,,he is busy stuffing himself…he should be fired…wat is his duty?he should be checking on all the players all the time……..PANDOR COME BACK AND TAME THIS CHIMBWIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  48. Atleast we know you dont do this job for money,,,you do it for love of zambia and zambian football..the rest are just in it to pocket..

  49. Once dubbed the next big thing to come out of Zambia if not Africa. This boy was voted the best young player in Africa just recently. All the past years in south africa football, hes been the hero in relegation battles, single-handed saving teams and disappears into oblivion …. what has Clifford Mulenga has to show for all the potential, 2 disciplinary send offs, and a hair cut … shame!

  50. H.R. should have just suspended him for one game and ask FAZ to fine him. We need all the manpower at our disposition. I don’t think its really fair to send one back home and leave the other culprits out the equation. Good luck boys you playing good!!

  51. Imwe, its not bad to celebrate after a win. He could have allowed them to drink their heads off after the game then applied curfew later on. There was a solid 1 week in between. Most of us who drink celebrate by drinking after a accomplishing a challenging and hard days work or activity. That game was tricky. Its not easy beating a host nation. We could have easily been eliminated or pitted with the Ivorians had we lost or drawn that game. Cliff Mwaiche, come pa Zed we celebrate nicely. Fileke fipuba fibena Renard. Tafyaishiba uku celebreta. Go Zambia Go.

  52. tht tournament ws nt goin to take place th whole year so i dnt know why sme pipo cn fail to adhere to small rules jst for a short period of time.clifford shud nt become big headed nw he’s  gt a long way to go.thts one thing tht has made a lot of these footballers look lke thy neva played football.beer wil neva finish or whtever thy went lookin 4 only God knows.why cnt thy behave lke kalusha bwalya,he is well known nt jst for bein a gud footballer bt th way he conducted himself too.apologising is nt a sign of stupidity bt a sign of maturity.i hop th boy hs learnt a lesson coz if he hsnt,he cn b expelled frm south africa too.
