Livingstone constituency parliamentary seat elections nullified

Livingstone

The Livingstone High Court has nullified the election of MMD’s Lukulo Katombora as Member of Parliament for Livingstone constituency.

This follows a successful electoral petition in which losing UPND candidate Fredrick Chuunga and Patriotic Front candidate Joseph Akafumba, jointly petitioned Mr Katombora’s election in the September 20 tripartite elections last year.

In passing judgment on Tuesday morning, Livingstone High Court Judge Ernest Mukulwamutiyo, declared the election of Mr. Katombora null and void.

Judge Mukulwamutiyo says although numerical variations could not be used as a basis of nullifying Mr. Katombora’s election, the petitioners had satisfied the court with enough evidence.

Efforts to get a comment from Mr. Katombora, who was absent, during the delivery of judgment failed as his phone went unanswered.

Meanwhile, Mr. Katombora’s Lawyer, Adrian Nkausu, says the judgment was fine but was waiting for instructions from his client on whether to appeal against the judgment to the Supreme Court.

Mr Chuunga and Mr Akafumba had petitioned the election results citing corrupt and or illegal practices committed Mr Katombora and his agents.

The petitioners had also stated that there were widespread irregularities in 16 of the 17 wards in the Livingstone constituency.

  1. Upnd and MMD must choose one person to support so as to reduce manipulative Sata’s ego for dominance in parliament .u can’t trust Sata remember his evil actions during that useless third term bid for ka Chiluba which Sata supported with all his might

  2. poor Judgment……. i thought the basis of the nullification was the issue of discrepancies in the numbers

  3. Billions will go into campaign and Billions will be used to organise a fresh election. meaning double or treble Billions will be lost. This is democracy we have no choice.

  4. This Katobora is just a moron and deserves what has come to him. You get appointed as southern province minister and then go ahead in church to say you practised black magic. As if this is not bad enough, you start fighting Miles Sampa in the dark threatening Sampa with death. MMD won sits through dubious means and it is just a choice to get those sits back to the electorates to decide.

  5. When it rains, it pours. Mvula ikakukata litsiro, siileka.
Isn’t Mr Katombora the repentant juju man? I hope he doesn’t get so worried. Sata n is a hard task master. When you denounce him and stop serving him, he will give you a very hard time. Courage brother, Jesus whom you serve now will give you a better deal.

  6. Seat for who? UPND try your luck now your get the seat with very small margin because of your tribal sentiments. That seat belongs to MMD. MMD should a strong person now. No merging with UPND why? That is MMD s seat then UPND should not field anyone.

  7. MMD & UPND should agree on a sole candidate from either party and sell him widely. King Cobby needs to be taught where the real power lies in a democracy. An embarrassing loss in Livingstone will put the Cobby in his rightful place.

  8. ANOTHER SIT IN PARLIAMENT FOR PF. MARK MY WORD, THIS IS FOR PF WHETHER MMD AND UPND MERGE, PF WILL HAVE A FOOT IN THE SOUTHERN NOW.
