President Michael Sata has invited an Indian CHAIN OF HOTELS to invest in Zambia. President Sata said the Zambian Government was ready to facilitate investment in the hotel industry.

This is according to a press statement made available to the media by Special Assistant to the President for Press and Public relations Mr George Chellah.

According to the statement, the Head of State was speaking when he held an investment promotion meeting with the Chairman and Managing Director of UMEID GROUP of Hotels in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, West India, Mr. Ummeid Champawat. This is in the President’s continued efforts to woo investors into Zambia.

President Sata assured Mr. Champawat of his administration’s readiness to work with investors who would contribute to the development of tourism in the country. UMEID GROUP of Hotels is operated by the Taj Hotel Group of companies.

President Sata was flanked during the meeting by Zambia’s High Commissioner to India Ambassador Susan Sikaneta and First Secretary for Press & Tourism at the Mission, Mr. Bwalya Nondo.

And Mr. Champawat, who was accompanied by THE GATEWAY HOTEL General Manager Mr. Darius Merchant, said his company was eager to invest in Zambia.

It is the President’s desire to ensure that, Zambia maximises on economic benefits from the forthcoming World Tourism Assembly (WTA) to be co-hosted by Zambia and Zimbabwe. To this end, construction of hotels prior to the event scheduled for next year will go a long way in enhancing tourism development in the country.

  1. #2 you are right on the money. Too little too late. Very amateurish public relations. Zambians are not kids and they can read through this nonsense Chellah and his boys are trying to patch up.

Seriously the president needs to take my advise and get rid of these POST Newspaper back room staff as his PR team. They are a mess and a disaster.

Why didn’t you just announce that Sata is off to Indian to look for Investment, after all two weeks ago there were Indian investors in Zambia and you could have said it was just a follow up and he could have squeezed in his medical checkup without raising all this unnecessary dust. Anyway, that is Evelyn Hone college at the top for you. Good luck Mr President.

  2. I wonder why the Indian press didn’t cover this important so called “Investment Promotion Meeting”? How come our Min of Commerce and other concerned politicians and technocrats were left behind in Zambia? Comedy of errors continues.

  3. Indian press were more interested with the laser treatment and the subsequent discharge from hospital. Now Chella wants to divert our attention to this back-door meeting, even the indian media did not report on this inconsequential meeting.

  4. Sata ia really a clown. Does he really believe that Zambians are so gullible that they will always swallow his diatribe. He woos investors from his sick bed!!!! Just because he loved the hotel he stayed in does not justify inviting the Indians to come and open hotels in Zambia. Private visit indeed. What has Zambia done wrong to deserve this sort of government and its leadership. I weep for my beloved country. We were warned but did not believe, because we voted with our stomachs….Now the mulungu vice president is talking to us like he was talking to his farm boys….More money in your pockets and you believed.

    • Hotels are not Rocket science, Hotels can be built not even by people from outside, furnish, employ decently and just ensure etiquette, thats why we were insulted in the book, “The shackled continent.” it said Zambia can not produce any finished product apart from a Bowl of Beef stew. sad:-?

  5. MMD Chief Bootlicker, i remember you telling us not to vote for this sick man…i now agree with you…i used to think the man had at least 50% of his brain that works…but i was wrong.. its only 5%….and by the time he will be clocking 5 years in power….i dont know..only God know.

  6. We have had the Taj Pamodzi under Indians for years after they bought it from GRZ but no improvement has been done to it. The new Indian investors are just coming to make tuntemba hotels.

  7. The problem is when the president feels pain , he speaks to pain as in Botswana . When he is relieved he speaks investment. Bipolar ?
    Too late.

    • Hi BrendanI am also awaiting your book with extniemect! I have been a commercial model for 2 years and have enjoyed it, I now want to move into film and television, I have drama school training (Central school) but went straight into commercial modelling as I just wanted to work- any suggestions how to move and change into it? Ive tried the normal way of approaching and writing to an agent but feel it gets lost with all the applicants- as is inviting them to see me in some plays/screenings I have been in, Thanks for your help!! 8. Coomedable job in India Mr. President, please come back home, some political vultures specialised in pouncing on political estates of the dead were celebrating that they could finally feast on Zambia!!
Sorry guys, you have just enhanced your political irrelevance!!!

  9. Hey, hey the man could not Urinate without pain, Had pain during sex, has frequency and urgency and blood in urine and his PSA aws positive! Surgical interevntion was reccomended to be followed by radiation and chemo if neccesary. Dr Hilderabad will come nd evaluate him in Luska i month post current intervention!

  10. George chellah twakupapata!!!! It must hurt to be that stupid! You really must resign on principle – inchito iyo te size yobe. Do the honorable thing my man. We already have to put up with a borderline nutter as president which is why he needs a major heavy weight PR machine around him. You cannot even work as a PRO in a medium company let alone a large corporate or worse the presidency!! Ukwa can be ukwa but you are a disgrace to the profession. Kanshi nga mwabwelele fye tondolo – the PR disaster you have caused stretches beyond this incident, Ukwas antics into making all of us Zambians look like mindless *****s! FUSAKE

  11. Sata is having a real laugh…woo investors from his hospital bed and the worst part of all this is that his chief spin doctor George Chellah is still trying to spin this story, its really ludicrous.
Sata and co still don’t relies how small the world is; we have contacts in India who can verify all this or the internet can do this, just give us the venue.
No wonder this president fails to see the potential of Zambians whilst in diaspora.

  12. It is always too late to come to our senses to have our beloved sick president in office, anyways, every one is sick in our nation, for allowing our fellow sick man to lend us.[-(

  13. Let’s pray for our president. It’s the only way to have better things come from him. He needs wisdom from God.

  14. #16 Zeb Mpinganhjira,
You seem to have forgotten already thar Mr Sata is the pioneer of what you call ‘some political vultures specialised in pouncing on the polittical estates of the dead’. He started it with the late Mazoka and did it again with the late Mwanawasa. It is a moral lesson that it is evil to rejoice and ridicule the sick and the dying because it will hit you harder sooner rather than later.

  15. This president is very phony,,,he is such a joke,,,,wow wow what,,,” if you want to test a mans true character,,give him power”

  16. If PF govt forces Sata to continue leading at the expense of his health, then sorry maningi.History repeating itself

  17. You Indian investors, ask Libyan investors and they will explain to you about the investment climate of Zambia

  18. I suspect had a meeting some donchi kubebas pretending to be ivestors because the company he claims to have spoken to has declined ever meeting the iddioota.

  19. Ukwa is reported to have spoken to one prospective investor – by chance – and tell the Zambians that he “woos investors”!! That kind of damage control approach will not wash. PF government has handled this trip very badly. They loose credibility with every move they make. Everything they do is tinged with lies, lies, lies! The kaponyas must get out, they have already overstayed their welcome; these tribalists.

  20. #3 I hope you don’t mean to talk down on Evelyn Hone College az an institution. There are a lot of graduates from EHC and indeed many other higher learning schoolz including univerzities, who are doing this nation a commendable service in various disciplinez. Challengez are everywhere, both at institutional and or individual student level in theze government fascilitiez.

  21. I find it so hard to believe that State house just come out in the open and say Mr Sata had surgery. He is a human being and every person is destined to get sick at one point in life. He is not super human. People will respect in more when he comes out in the open and say to the nation that he had a complication that was not life threatening. How long can one hide health complication.
I wish him well and hope he can admit to the country if he has any complications.

  22. Are hotels not extraction investments. More money leaving Zambia than staying? Woo manufacturing companies, even if it’s TATA making CV joints in senanga. SMH.

  23. Sata is known as King Cobra in his home country.

Sources told DeshGujarat that he is undergoing treatment at Samved hospital, Navrangpura.

As he has been given the state guest status, proper security has been provided at Taj Gateway Hotel near the Ahmedabad airport where he stays.

Back at home in Zambia, Sata’s visit has been declared as private visit. This is the first trip Sata is taking out of Africa from the time he was elected president.

  24. #33 the journalists Evelyn hone is producing nowadays leave much to be desired or rather those who graduated from Chilubas reign to now.Look at this Chellah fellow, look at the current Daily mail team….Back in the day Zambia had real journalists not the crap we are seeing now.

  25. It is very unfortunsatye that wherever Sata goes nobody takes him serious as a Leader simply because almost all the Leaders in the World knows his Characteristics.Look at how embarrased the Botswana Government and Zambian Citizens living in Botswana.

  26. chwe chwe chwe forward chikali chibababa..lose ilajisa musa. 4 years + months to go!!it myt be more than that…

  27. We have a comedian for a President. This is the information age and people will always find ways of finding and figuring out what it is going on. There is no way you are going to woo investors by leaving your minister of trade and commerce and other technocrats as pointed out by one blogger. Running a country is not a one man show otherwise it will drive you into the ground.  All this circus would have been avoided if a simple statement was given that he had gone for a routine medical checkup.

  28. Which investor can SATA woo, please naimwe kukonda kukamba-kamba!!?? Sata niwo dwala. This is a micky-mouse government and the majority of Zambians are now just waiting for 2016 for the REAL CHANGE. I hardly hear anything about policy from this government. Everyday all I hear is threats to everybody who is doing something they don’t understand. Because they are so dull, they don’t understand things being done by almost everyone in the country so you find people are receiving threats EVERYWHERE!! We need policy pronouncements, not threats and intimidating the opposition. These guys will reget their actions, some of them come 2016 they will not be able to enter some provinces to campaign – otherwise no one will attend their meetings. Just wait.

  29. Let me help Chellah. What he meant to say was that the General Manager of the hotel where MCS is recuperating paid a courtesy call on their presidential guest and to wish him quick recovery. In Bemba they call it ukupempula. But Chellah true to PF lies has tried to spin that into investment promotion. Where on earth can you build a hotel to be ready for the joint tourism conference next year? If he went for investment promotion what is so private or secret about it? Disgusting nauseating shit.

  30. So … the private visit was actually an official one to woo investors…
I think someone here called him and told him the cat was out of the bag, so on his way out of the hotel, he told the clerk behind the counter:
“This is a lovely hotel, you must open one in my country Zambia”, to which the clerk responded, “yes … thank you, sir”.
Upon landing in Zed, he holds a press statement and declares that he went to woo Indian investors.
    Right.
We are not *****s, it is perfectly fine to fall ill. Why hide it.
So, how many lies now, 90 days, BRE, more money, 3 trillion kwacha, Indian investors.
    What shall we believe?

  31. Of all countries you invite INDIANS please!!!!!! It does not matter which country investors come from but too many INDIANS are not good for the enviroment, these pipo are very dirty. Chinese are better…..i only hope rich indians will come but if they start inviting their poor relatives, they will turn our country into a SPITTING GROUND!!!!! THEY SPITING HABIT ARE SO DISGUSTING

  32. African leaders want more hotels in their countries meanwhile their own people can’t afford to sleep in these hotels, and YES they create jobs. But imagine if Sata attarcted a pharmaceticals and other medical supplies producers, how much this would benefit the people with cheaper medicine and medical services … thinking aloud!
