PRESIDENT Sata swearing-in veteran broadcaster Frank Mutubila as Zambia’s Ambassador to Italy

NEWLY appointed Zambia’s ambassador to Italy Frank Mutubila says he will do his best to attract Italian investment and enhance trade between Zambia and Italy. Mr Mutubila said this in a statement issued in Lusaka on Wednesday.

“I will promote the interests of our country, especially in terms of investment prospects and trade enhancement,” he said.

Mr Mutubila, who is also a veteran broadcaster ,has thanked President Sata for appointing him ambassador to Italy. He said Zambia and Italy have a long history which has not fully been exploited.

“Italy was operating a motor assembly company here in the 1970s and many other companies including the energy sector and these are areas we can explore again,” Mr Mutubila said.

He said the tourism sector further offers opportunities with the Italian government.

“The tourism, manufacturing and agriculture sectors offer greater investment opportunities which we pursue,” Mr Mutubila said.

He also thanked Zambians for supporting him in his long years of broadcasting. On Tuesday, President Sata swore-in Mr Mutubila as Zambia’s ambassador to Italy.

  1. It truly is a stinking Bemba show Sata is playing out here. How else could one appoint a stinking quack journalist like this shameless womanizer to be envoy to Italy? When Sata kicks the bucket, there will be wailings monga chililo in the Northern caucases, I hope they are watching what is happening in Malawi as joyce cleans house!

  2. Every job has its perks guys and one of the presidents perks is appointing friends and supporters to be ambassadors. Its not like he appointed Mr Mutubila to be minister of health where you need a truly qualified proffessional. I think Mr Mutubila will do a very honorable job representing his country based on his journalism back ground.

  3. Journalism background qualifies him for the job of ambassador? I am *smh* but hey Africa does things differently.

  4. Well done!!! I am sure he will love Italy especially the food, the wine the people fantastico!!!Oh and the fashion, who wouldn’t want to work in Italy?
Now to some of you jealous people out there who can’t take everything seriously, his job will definitely come first but none of you would smile if you were sent to Siberia.

  5. Ba Mutubile, moneni akalukobo kwati ni Imute wa Kalilo! Anyway, I thought this man died a long time ago, what is he still doing among the living?

  6. We need to ask the Italians to partner with us on how to build and maintain tow roads around the country. Italy has some of the best motorways in Europe thanks to their extensive network of tow motorways.

  7. HOPE HE TAKES BAGS OF ARVS. SOME PEOLE ARE BETTER WORKING IN ZAMBIA THAN IN DIASPORA. WITH COLD WEATHER HE WILL GO BACK IN A COFFIN AFTER GETTING PNEUMONIA

  8. Bembas are very important people. They came all the way from Kola conquered all before them before settling in Kasama. They fought off the marauding Ngonis and established a proud liberal tradition. They are so proud of themselves they are unpretentious people who aren’t insecure about other tribes influencing their rich heritage

  9. @Gono,
No doubt that cronyism is universal but even then a wise leader appoints those with the most experience & qualifications for particular posts!!in this case,it would have been reasonable to see Mutubila as DG of ZNBC or Broadcasting Minister!!

    Developed countries (USA,UK,FRANCE,GERMANY,JAPAN etc)

  10. @Gono,
    pressed wrong icon,continued….
In developed countries, ambassadorial appointments go to CAREER DIPLOMATS,people with 20+ years in the diplomatic service!!moreover, they are ALWAYS in tune with the language(s) and customs of their host countries!
How will Mutubila wow Italian CEOs when he doesn’t speak their native language?
Other than pizza and Gucci, what does he know about Italy??
Anyway…only in Africa can a washed up newsreader be appointed ambassador!!

  11. @Munalian- My friend please dont make me laugh. From a 3rd world country, I would want a good salesman as an ambassador. Somebody who can sell my country as a country with great opportunities for investment and tourism, a country that can sponsor young Zambian students for further education in technology or agriculture. To me results are more important than those qualifications you threw out there. Most CEOs of successful companies speak english or they have a translator so langauge is not a barrier.

  12. I was in Milan, Italy last week and I enjoyed the underground train there especially the Green line From Varesa to Tregvilo. It was so much better than the one in New York even London with the latest technologies and such. All Made in Italy, it was only second best to one I rod in Zurich, Switzerland. Frank can help bring such to Zambia afterall the Italians were the first to invent the bullet train before the Japanese took over.

Your first assignment is to make sure we have those in Zambia, we have a long history of great things with the Italian from motor vehicle assembly to ZAMTAN and all the other good stuff. They were the real first co-operating partner in Zambia in the Non-Aligned Movement.

    • BR Mumba ubufi? What Italy train? You are just shigaling us butter after you goggled the green line PULIZI!!!
Ati so much better than the one in NY? Which ones? Kwati you have been there? After all they are several trains in NYC subway, Amtrac, LIRR so mudala which one? Ngati nipa UK dont even start that? Where you on the tub?? Some pipo kulibonesha!!!!!!

  13. @Gono,
Ignoring Frank has 0 experience in diplomacy, where & when did he acquire those salesmanship qualities you seek in him??Of course most CEOs are fluent in English but remember that speaking in their native language is the best way to flatter them, oriental languages (especially Mandarin) are becoming compulsory in high school curricula in Europe & US coz more business is being conducted in the East!!

Anyway…this post is just a retirement send off for one Ukwa’s buddy, another geriatric who thinks of the 70s factories instead of the 21st century opportunities you mentioned…

  14. @Munalian- Sir I said my ideal ambassador would have those sells qualities because you have to be able to sell all the good qualities of your country. I dont know Mr Mutubilas qualifications when it comes to sells but again like my old math teacher used to say there are many ways to kill a cat. You have your opinion and so do I but at least we seem to want the same result. I cant judge Mr Mutubilas by his age, but by his results again I am a result guy maybe thats why I am crazy about sales. The numbers dont lie.

  15. @Gono
The issue at hand isn’t just the product (ie investment opportunities in Zed) but also the delivery of the message…imagine Frank at the Italian business chamber,in the company of powerful CEOs…don’t you think courting them would be far easier if he spoke Italian and knew how they conduct business deals??alternatively, can you imagine a German,French,Chinese…ambassador in Lusaka who doesn’t speak English??do you think it would be diplomatic to attend State functions with a translator??
I really hope Frank be successful but we can’t ignore that he has ZERO experience in the diplomatic service and worse Italy is the wrong assignment…then again only in Africa you leave a tv studio to become an ambassador!!

  17. @11, Nubian princes, wantekunya overdose, i have been laughing all day by your comment. please i need another dosage:((

  18. I think I have enjoyed the comments more than the article…lol..! People are funny!!! Caristo Chitamfya would have done better for the position! :d

  19. Is it the name or the skills that matter? In this case it was just the name Frank Mutubila and not that Frank has any special skills in diplomacy. All skilled people in diplomacy have been brought back by the way.

  20. Firtsly to all the AIDS talk, what does it matter to you or anyone? Thats the stigma that has caused a hell of alot of death in our country SO JUST STOP IT!! yes he might have no experience as a diplomat and if he does fail, i think SATA will recall him for any short comings. We have already passed judgment when the guy hasn’t even been in office for one day!! It’s this kind of negative attitude that hinders progress in our country Zambia. Lets give him a chance and see how he fares. If he does mess things up its an embarrasment to Mr. Sata for appointing him and an even bigger embarrassment to Mr. Mutubila for faltering.

  21. Bravo Your Excellency, AMbassador Frank Mutubila you derserve man eishh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
All u haters are just lousy losers

  22. An ambassador is simply a salesman. The real work at the embassy is done by the first secretaries going down. Anyway I hear most of the guys first selected to represent Zambia were rejected by many countries for being under-qualified, therefore, pali ma pepala pali fulanki. Kwaliba night school bane.

  23. Congratulations Mr. Mutubila! You have worked very well at ZNBC. We shall miss you but you deserve the post. Thank you Mr. President too.

  24. After reading your article, I??m compelling to share your points on this topic. You have done a very good job with your attention to detail you put into this article.
