Masumba not ready to resign

Share

Local government and housing deputy minister Steven Masumba says the MMD should not personalize issues following his court case.

Masumba has pleaded not guilty to one count of obtaining pecuniary advantage by false pretences, involving his academic qualifications.

Yesterday, MMD deputy national secretary Chembe Nyangu said the party will for now consider their Mufumbwe parliamentarian, Stephen Masumba, as not being in good standing with the party.

Mr. Masumba is being accused of being in possession of a forged accounting technician Diploma obtained from the National Institute for Public Administration (NIPA).

Speaking to QFM in a telephone interview, Mr. Masumba says he is surprised to hear of the party’s position in the media, adding that he has not been informed about the stance taken.

Mr. Masumba says he will respect the position taken by his party because he is not ready to fight a party he has been dedicated to.

He says his leadership is ordained by God stating that anyone who tempers with him, tempers with God.

And asked if he considers resigning from his government position on morale ground following the allegations levelled against him, Mr. Masumba said he is not a criminal until proven guilty by the courts of law.

He says it is too early for him to make comments on the allegations because the matter is still in the courts.

  1. We don’t need blatant cheats like this fool. Just fire him. Of course he won’t resign.  Can’t have a minister waving a FALSE qualifications! Better an illiterate but honest individual. Enda kumunzi mbuzi

  2. @#1. I have followed with awe your negative comments about our institutions of higher learning and I don’t seem to follow where your hatred for them stems from. Did you have a bad experience there for you to insult the men and women who labour day and night under difficult conditions to keep these places running. Are all the dons at these institutions dull except you? I really need some honest answers maybe I will see things from your point of view. I am at a loss.

  3. #6 Mimi – A University is supposed to be the pride of a country but UNZA is the shame of Zambia. Look at the inferior hospitals the Med students practice in? Too bad you are at a loss for words, you don’t even have to travel too far from Zambia to see what a real university looks like.

I thank God to have had the opportunity to be educated at a real university with abundant resources for learning and Professors who never have to strike!

    • Unza is still the pride of the nation. Its just a pity politicians (govt) has neglected this institution. Some of us have had a chance to pass through the best universities in England because of our previous education background we had at UNZA. Believe me unza produces quality students.

  4. #8 Nubian Princess. There alot of us who have had the blessing to study abroad but I can assure you that while it is true that our Universities lack the necessary infrustructure and equipment, it is not right to belittle the men and women who work at UNZA or CBU. It is not entirely their responsibility to raise standards at those institutions. What you see at those institutions is a reflection of what is obtaining in the country as whole. I can assure you that despite obtaining most of my tertiary credentials I still feel for our institutions and having been to Universities abroad does not detouch me from my roots. It would be better to encourage than to ridicule people unnecessarily. We are not America or Europe, so lets be proud of who we are.

I see your point…but i still think there is a better way of approaching this issue…another angle of seeing it…despite the luck of facilities in Zambian high institutions of learning, i still want to believe UNZA produces alot of well articulated scholars with abilities that most students from Universities that you and i have attended cant much. To borrow your phase, i thank God UNZA is still running and credit must be given to people working under difficult conditions as rightly observed by # 6 Mimi…we have alot of poor people in Zed who might never make it to well stocked schools that a few of us have enjoyed around the world…but they have UNZA…its such a blessing.

  6. this looks like case of ‘not hitting hard’, why forge a diploma?

What a styupid young man, why didnt he go for a PhD or atleast 2 undergraduate degrees like the head of state………….now look at the trouble you have alanded into feor stealing just alittle……

  7. #8 Numbian my lovely one, I usually respect you, but about down-grading my former school UNZA waponta mwee. UNZA is much better than most universities I visited in INDIA, maybe they never strike there, but if you talk of resources… Indian students study under street lights.. thats enough, I don’t appreciate discussing such issues, mano yaku mushi.

  8. #8 Nubian I wish to disagree with you. I am a former UNZA student and just like you, I now have an opportunity to study abroad. It is the training I got from UNZA that puts me on the deans list here in USA at the end of every semester. They think I am a wonder kid, they call me all sorts of names because I solve math problems in a flash, thats the kind of foundation UNZA laid for me. I am glad I went to UNZA and I appreciate everyone there. Folks at UNZA might not have resources to go abroad but believe me we have big brains at UNZA no doubt.

    • Well said sir! We never forget or talk bad about where we have come from. UNZA  IS BEAST! I salute all the UNZA students.

  9. #14 – You are a math genius because you were born that way, not because you went to UNZA! If you are born with talent, intelligence a university only gives you a piece of paper to back it up.

As for everyone else supporting UNZA, as long as you don’t accept that the institution is finished, there will not be any progress there. All you UNZA alumni ought to start some kind of alumni organization and start funneling money back into UNZA! All of you take from UNZA and never give anything back.

    • @ nubian princess, the reason why you are so bitter is that you never had a chance to pass through UNZA because of your low intelligence. Despite the hard conditions, most UNZA students manage to graduate with exceptional results which allow them entry into top Unversities all over the world for their post graduate studies.

  10. The news that he won’t resign is not schocking. typical of leaders in this country they, have no shame to lie. No wonder this nation will take time to develop, how can a leader have no shame to lie, for instance getting a degree overnight from the internet. Everyone will follow suit, this is typical when honestness is not a norm in any society or party.

  11. # 14. Well said sir! We never forget r talk bad about where we have come from. UNZA  IS BEAST! I salute all the UNZA students.

  12. look at this boy, “[He says his leadership is ordained by God stating that anyone who tempers with him, tempers with God]”.kasushi akanono umwaice uyu…..

  13. @Nubian Princess…..we ule we…bushe techi mushota fye ichi? we have been to better schools around the globe but we will never speak ill of our roots…UNZA is super and we are what we are because of it….

  14. @ nubian princess, I can only imagine how bitter you are for not managing to get into UNZA…. ahhh…shaaaaammmmme. Despite the hard conditions, most UNZA students manage to graduate with exceptional results which allow them entry into top Unversities all over the world for their post graduate studies. Unfotunately ba princess all you can do is to talk down on the institution. Try to have a positive attitude you might feel better.

  15. I really thank everyone who is trying to realign this Nubian Princess. Zambians, never allow a white man’s world to brain wash you. We should be proud of what we have and work towards improving it not to worship other people.
they have worked for their development and we can do the same while respecting our own structures. I have benefited from my training at CBU and it is a platform on which I have ticked in developed universities.

  16. Ba Nubian princes, u just failed from UNZA. its normal everyone who failed to make it into the competitive system has bad words to say bout the institution. The degrees from UNZA are not easy to get, we have dons that are well respected accross the world, what makes an institution a gud institution is not the buildings but the level of research and its standings on the world market. unza is still rated highly. i suggest u sober up from the failures u had, where u failed many other made it and are making it in life….thanks

  17. @#1 Nubian princes u re ryt.Tertiary education in Zambia is mainly characterised by corrupt activities.stupid lecturers!!!

  18. Nubian princes must suggest ways of improving the situation at UNZA instead of just criticising. Yes there is overcrowding in the halls of residence, very internet facilities, the library is not well stocked, etc. These are the things that a serious university management must address. I take my hat off to the staff and students have to endure such shortcomings on a daily basis. Perhaps UNZALARU or whatever the union is called should include fighting for better facilities in their demands instead of always just fighting for salary increments.

  19. Following the debate on UNZA one is tempted to wonder how old are the debaters. They all have valid points but fail to put them forward constructively except for perharps Mimi.

  20. called you.Do not equate yourself to God.Time has just caught up with you. This is the outcome of having positions you don’tdeserve.Your time for reckoning has arrived young man.Better prepare enough money for Sakwiba Sikota to defend you.

  21. #8 Nubian, with all due respect I wish to disagree with you again. Maybe I was born a genius but I guarantee you if I had not passed through UNZA, I would not have these abilities that I have. You can have Gold as an ore but it takes great expertise to process, polish it and bring out that glamour and shine. UNZA lecturers did that for me and I am grateful. I hope one day UNZA will get the attention that it deserves but all in all, its a good place to study.
