The Southern African Centre for the Constructive Resolution of Disputes (SACCORD) has advised the opposition United Party for National Development (UPND) to take legal action on individual police officers that are alleged to have assaulted its members.

The UPND is considering complaining to the United Nations on what they term as human rights abuses by the Patriotic Front government, following the beating up by police of its members during a demonstration on Wednesday.

SACCORD information officer Obby Chibuluma says although the UN system provides for citizens of member states to raise concerns of human rights violation with the human rights council; they risk not getting the necessary justice.

Mr. Chibuluma says the decisions made within the UN system may not be binding but mere political statements.

Speaking to QFM, Mr. Chibuluma says the best the UPND can do is to lay individual assault charges on the involved police officers including the Lusaka Police commissioner Charity Katanga.

He says it is more appropriate for the UPND to get judgment from the local courts rather that going through the international system.

  1. if upnd what human right mean they believe in the break law to demonstrate and meet the law and pretend nothing is wrong i believe as long HH runs upnd it will never rule zambia

  2. remember zambia now vote on principle so upnd you are just finishing yourself show us principles you believe in pf demonstrated in their campagn and were voted but with upnd has to grow

  3. The UN has more serious issues to deal with and the UPND is wasting its time by taking stupid complaints to the UN.It also shows how dull and foolish the UPND leaders are.The police refused a permit for UPND to parade in the street on a matter that is in court, why did UPND go aheard with the unauthorised demo? Its stupid, unreasonable and foolish.Does the UPD have legl advisors?

    • You said it right. They thought breaking the law in the name of freedom of gathering was okey. Now, they know otherwise. It’s foolish to break the law and expect sympathy when the same law catches up with you.

  4. No Mr Chibuluma, let them go to the UN and get what they want. HH will not cease to amaze me!! Why UN today? How many times did MMD thugs attack his little trible party? Did he go to the UN. I wonder what will became of him when the UN throw this case away.

  5. UPND overates themselves too much. It will takes them 5yrs just to go passed the reception at the UN. The USA, UN etc do not have any interests in countries that do not have oil, diamonds etc. Worse still southern province only have the vic falls and dying cattle. If HH was my child, I will beat him every time he comes crying to me whenever he has had a fight at school. That is what UPND does, they start a fight and when they re beaten they go crying to everyone they think is superior.

  6. They idea by Southern Province Tribal Party (aka UPND) to rush to diplomats & the UN over every trivial matter that can be resolved internally can be matched up to Dora Siliya’s contemptuous behavior towards her former husband, publicly spewing his allegedly bedroom insufficiencies but *****ically forgetting she was a drunk, a whore & a chisusu.
Did Dora hammer her illogical principle of resolving differences into you now that you sleep with her and lick her pee?

  8. coming to think of it, if upnd were to be in power I am sure they will go to the UN and ask them to make a constitution for zambia.

  9. The police acts on behalf of the government, it impliments it’s directives. In other words, what ever the police does, it has the blessing of the government. Not a long time ago, we saw some party cadres demonstrating, we never saw the police arrest anybody. The idea of sueing the police officers, instead of the one giving them directives cannot work.

  10. @5 Kwekwe, you sound primitive and mentally stagnant. Dictatorship is out dated in our modern society, you see, i have taught you something…………. wake up man….you are too sleepy!!!!!

  11. HH should grow up and start practicing real politics not this under five tricks of always crying like a baby! grow up moron!

  12. HH how do u allow yo youths(UPND thugs) to demonstrate when the president is out of the country? Most coups all over the world have taken place when heads of state are out. What u did is tatamount to staging coup detat on MCS. You just got what u ddeserved from the police. Did u expect the police to pamper u. Shame! Your attitude is “if u cant have it then noone should”. Zambians can see bitterness written all over your face for not winning last year’s elections.

  13. @ 14 PF Mutale,

Uli nkonko nga HH. What have you taught me? which leader in the world is not a dictator, name him and I will tell you his madness because I am well informed with wolrd affair unlike you.
People in the US demonstrated and we the police kicking the hell out of their A.S..S.E.S. Is that democracy. Makaka iweee

  14. Zambia is a failed experiment. Time to consider other options. The pretend nation should be put to an end!

  15. The pictures flashed on line told a story as to who was beating who. It was NOT PF but indvidual police men.
So sue the Police Not PF

  16. SO SHOULD PF GO TO THE UN FOR HAVING THEIR CHITENGE BURNT BY HH/UPND IN LIVINGSTONE? GROW UP HH. ASK SYRIA HOW LONG THE UN TAKES TO ACT. WHEN VOTERS CHOOSE A FORMER SWEEPER INSTEAD OF YOU AN ECONOMIST THEN WHAT ARE THEY TELLING YOU RIGHT IN YOUR FACE? WHEN THEY CHOOSE A GERIATRIC PRESIDENT INSTEAD OF YOU A YOUNG MAN WHAT ARE THEY TELLING YOU RIGHT IN YOUR FACE? WHO ARE THEY SAYING IS FOOLISH FOR ALL HIS EDUCATION? MIND YOU, SATA GOT MOST OF HIS VOTES IN AREAS WITH MOST SCHOOLS, COLLEGES AND UNIVERSITIES IN ZAMBIA COMPARED WITH WHERE YOU GOT YOUR VOTES. IF YOU HAVE EARS UNDERSTAND THESE SIMPLE WORDS.

  17. HH for real is Under five UN to complain for going to the streets without a police permit even when they were told that the permit could not be issued since the matter was in court TEKERE is the one who advised the chap

  18. Sata was well received in England and  very soon we shall see investors from the west investing in Zambia.HH is not known in the Western world.

  19. SACCORD, you have just become a bunch of *****s pandering to the masses. These cadres were warned and told the case was before the courts. Their action was tantamount to prejudicing the case before the courts and possibly sway the ruling. They were warned several times but defied the law and hence got what they simply asked for. We should not take the freedom we have to extremes even when this freedom goes against the laws of the land. The police simply did their job. It’s criminal to blame them for enforcing the laws of our country. Why don’t you SACCORD then represent the UPND and the cadres arrested if you feel so aggrieved. THEY BROKE THE LAW AND JUST GOT WHAT CAME WITH BREAKING THE LAW. This is not freedom, but stupidity because they were advised and warned of the outcome.
