BY’s daughter critical

Share

FORMER Defence minister Ben Mwila’s daughter Lilly, who is admitted to the University Teaching Hospital (UTH) after a road accident is said to be in a critical condition.

Her brother Yoram, who was in the same accident died on the spot in the early hours of Sunday when the BMW vehicle they were travelling in overturned on the Great East Road in Lusaka.

Others who were in the vehicle were Vincent Chishala, the driver and John Nkuwa.

UTH public relations manager Pauline Mbangweta said in an interview yesterday that Lilly was still in a critical condition in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

“She is still in a critical condition but admitted to the UTH ICU wing where she is receiving the treatment and our medical personal have continue to monitor her condition,” she said.

The accident victims were coming from Arcades shopping mall around 03:00 hours when the driver lost control and hit into a pavement before ramming into a tree.

Meanwhile, former Energy and Water Development Minister Kenneth Konga has been discharged from the UTH. He was discharged from the hospital on Friday last week.

Mr Konga, who was minister during MMD regime, collapsed two weeks ago while being questioned by the Joint Government Investigative Wings in Woodland area in Lusaka.

He was earlier admitted to St John’s Medical Hospital in Woodlands before being transferred to UTH.

  1. This is very tragic news mwe bantu. May God bless Lili and may the soul of her brother rest in eternal peace

  2. Very sad indeed! most likely the driver was drunk, just speculating, otherwise how could it be. am also a motorist I can’t imagine how possible it could happaen.

  3. I trust German made vehicles, a corolla it would have been understandable but over turning a BMW its either the driver was wreckless or there was a catastrophic suspension failure coupled with excessive over speeding

  4. I passed thru the accident sean ard 05hrs and it ws sad to see what really happend that saturday morning,May God grant them mercy and comfort.

  5. YORAM LOVE REST IN PEACE AND LILLY GET WELL SOON AND WERE PRAYING FOR YOU……AND IT WAS EARLY MORNING OF SATURDAY WHEN YORAM DIED NOT SUNDAY.HE WAS BARELY IN THE COUNTRY FOR 24HRS AND HIS JUST GONE ……R.I.P

  6. I wonder if they if they had seat belts on. Seat belts help save lives too. We’ll keep them in our prayers

  7. These nocturnal creatures of the night, what the hell were they doing speeding on our roads at 03:00 am? Chickens, don’t they always come back home to roost! Someone should have known that the sins of gun-running for diamonds will one day come back to haunt him. Well, if there are any tears still residing in my skull, I will reserve them for Baldwin Nkumbula’s memorial days.

    • if you’ve hate for the father ,you should not turn it on the children !
      be human enough !

Lesa wamaule, theives, wrecked sinner like me and you etc !
But He’s not of the dead!

      Be kind!

    • Ngombala Muhapi wa Mafatsi or watever, you are a,sadistic, inhuman, *****, i even doubt if any words or phrase can describe hw heartless you are, for as long as you’ve got blood running through your vains, your days of grief are on their way n lets see hw many people with comfort you, regardless of the myths you hv bout the mwila family, you hv no right to be so Repugnant !!!!

  8. There are drinking places at Manda Hill that close very late. Add alcohol, no seat belts and the result is predictable. Nevertheless, condolences. To have hit the curb when there is little traffic at 03 hours and have a car overturn tells you the speed it was traveling at.

  9. Beer man Tulutulutu~beer man tulutultu. U are drunk with beer tulutulutu by victor kachaka. Get well such is life. We come and go.

  10. I feel sad for this family. They youn man arrives in Lusaka from abroad on Friday Morning the following morning is anothe r sad story. Worse now the girl Lilly is in a critical condition I pray that she pulls through. Its a very bad experience for the family. Your mourning life for the dead one and then sitting by bed side expecting the worse to happen. I suspect the seat belts were not worn by the pasengers and the driver must have been driving his machine at breakneck speed to nowhere. We are yet to experience such bad accidents bu our children. They dont care to listen and we invest so much in them and end of they day they leve behind a trial of billions of memories to parents to endure through out their lives.03;00hrs was very late. My condolences to the Mwila and Makulu families.

  11. Am not trying to judge anyone but someone should take control of drunk driving in Zambia, its taken too many lives. You are not safe in any vehicle, not even a bus of taxi, because the drivers are drunk too. It’s scary. Here in the west, we park the cars and take a train, bus or taxi if one is drunk or going to be drunk

  12. OKAY BA BY NAIKOSA APA PAKATI:
1: AMA TENDER BA UKWA BA POKA
2: AMA BOUNCED CHEQUES YA BEKATISHA
3: 03:00 HRS, ABANA NABA KOLWA, BA PILIBUKA
    AAA KWATI NI YOBO !
BA MUDALA MWAMBE UKUPEPA ! NI LESA FYE EUSUUNGA ! TE NDALAMA IYOO !
MAY THE LORD SAVE LILY AND TRANSFORM HER LIFE FOR THE BETTER ! AMEN

  13. It is a very sad moment for the family, I am sure the driver was drunk, if only traffic police in zambia were strict about drink driving. a lot of people have lost their lives in road accidents due to drinking. Please people think before you get behind that wheel. God bless the Mwila family.

    • Learn to spell, imbecile! And why are you posting in capitals? Was your teacher of English a Luvale?

  14. My heart felt condolences to the Mwilas. There are no words I would say which can comfort you, but please turn to God and let him take control of the situation you are in. Its not easy but God never fails. Wish your entire family God’s guidance and protection.

  15. The saddest part of this story is that there were four occupants in this vehicle and the other two are being completely ignored. Did they survive? Were they injured too? Don’t they matter at all? Class society I suppose.

  16. Driving while drunk is deadly. That is why we have too many accidents or deaths in Zambia. On top of this, people don’t wear seat belts.  On top of the Great East road between Arcades coming to Northmead is not safe. Those pavement bricks are nice to look at but are not safe. Once you hit them, your car will fall into the ditch and you’re gone. That section of the road should have a maximum a 70 Kmh speed limit.

  17. This is so sad @ Ngombala Muhapi wa Mafatsi I cant believe you can be so heartless these are someones kids you just dot talk like tat yes they made a mistake drinking while drunk but they dint deserve this have a heart for crying out loud……………………God pls give their family the strength to go on………………. I am a mother and I don’t know wat I would do if this happened to one of my babies.

  18. The major blame for these accidents are “bad roads”….

Great East road isn’t a bad road! (Well, ever since it was re done)…

This was surely a case of drunk driving, over speeding, excitement over Zambia’s win etc….

    Shame!

  19. I agree with #27. Why aren’t the other occupants of the vehicle being reported on? They don’t matter because they are not BY’s children? This country of ass kissers and boot lickers!

  20. # 11.. Ngombala Muhapi wa Mafatsi
You are so cruel and cold-blooded who does not deserve to be called a human being.
    My prayers BY and family

  21. My bad

I’m told they were actually going to watch the match

    Ku sabaila uku!

Let’s all be safe on the road!

  22. The car had 18″ rims and those tires it had (from the picture), you can travel when they are flat, so called ‘drive flat tires’.

Could the kerb be the problem here?, its too high and i suspect its not standard as i have never seen such tall kerbs in the developed world. sorry, just thinking

  23.   NO.32…….the other two are fine just minor bruises n scratches the two alive are the two who were in the front Lilly and yoram were sited at the back…….

  24. Too bad for the dead. Pray for the best for Lily. May the two gentlemen who survived the accident learn from the experience.

  25. very sad and unnecessary loss of life, TULENWA RESPONSIBLY! And dont jump in a car with drunken drivers. Thats the sad culture back home. Condolences to the bereaved!

  26. If there’s anything to monitor closely by traffic police is drunk driving its so common in Zambia. People get drank and drive around endagering lives of many innocent people. We have lost too many. But why come from America and allow to be driven home by a driver who’s drank? What is education then?Don’t learn from other nations.Traffic police wake up and stop this scourge. In 2010 we were driving from Luanshya and were overtaken by drunkdriver and almost drove into police road block at Luanshya turnoff But was not stopped and zizagged to Ndola turnoff and drove towards Ndola while we drove to Kitwe.I really prayed for safety of that man and other motorists on his way to Ndola.

  27. As a true Zambia soccer fan, i mourn young Yoram mwila.I watched him at Nkoloma stadium playing 4 the Zambia Under 17 a few years ago.he had exceptional talent let alone academics. Im failing 2 come 2 terms with the young man’s death. All those who seem not to be moved by death are not humans.

  28. It does not matter who made the car, if you are stupid and drive like a mad person any car will kill you period. The chap was drunk and driving crazy and hence  hit the pavement and lost control. Let us be responsible on the road!

  29. 03.00?? on thing springs to mind…. drunk and attempting to drive home… this is the reality of drinking and driving.. it’s not clever or wise… it takes lives!!!! another one succumbs to the dreaded drink. Nothing new under the sun my friends. RIP.

  30. Sad indeed, recover soon Lilly and Yorum MYRIEP. But no one is telling us about the condition of the driver and the fourth person, are they not important?

  31. Thats why every year I visit motherland l prefer drinking from home, I dont trust anyone driving me, people in Zambia should relay too much on the safety of their cars, please try to download some tips on driving, especially the ones who have survived…RIP young man

  32. Too bad but what was he doing with a sister at 03am and even seating at the back why ma tight so is she a real sister? Then u just arrive from US and the very night go drinking with a sister not even a girlfriend, why not stay at home with relatives? Is BY still married to the mother of the departed and the one strugling for her life now? BY is uncle to kafupi, did yoram travel to zambia to khuza malilo ya cousin wake kafupi? Who was the driver? we need a commission of inquiry chaired by lovemore chikopa, since he has not yet started his real work so on this one is just ka PJ

    • UHMM WATS WRONG WITH HANGING OUT WIT UR SISTER N YES ITS HIS REAL SISTER.AND HAVE A HEART ATLEAST ITS NOT FUNNY OFCOURSE HE DIDNT COME TO KHUZA MALILO THATS SILLY ……..HE DOES HAVE FAMILY HERE AND HE HASNT BEEN HOME FR 2YRS ALMST

  33. #46, 47.. a salt with a deadly pepa
What’s your point? Did you mean rely instead of relay?
Since you apologized, you are already forgiven….. LOL …
    Take care & be safe

  35. nga mwana wakwa sata ati iyo aipaya umwana so that aka pite mu 2016. guys to be serious, zambians drink like they were made by God to be drunks. bushe takwaba ifya kuchita? in japan people drink but after working hrs and in the morning, you wont even smell that this person was drunk. drink with sense bane. are we the only country that was destined to be a beer country even when we profase to be a christian nation. the beer is the one taking some many productive hrs away from zed.

  36. Bakapokola paZambia are the first ones to say “manje mukumwa mweka” when you approach a road block while drunk or even holding a ka beer!

  37. Shame about yoram,I hope the driver was drunk.
    Kenny Konga the thief collapsed.
eish,im missing Dora “Tujilijili” Siliya’s soft bums.

  38. really sad, guys life is precoius, its ok to chill, but we still need to see you the next day alive, many many many prayers to the families

  39. Vincent Chishala needs to be charged and locked up. After the accident the boy has shown no remorse and is forever seen out in lusaka still getting drunk and apparently making remarks of how he is untouchable. Who is his father let alone this vincent chap himself. He should have gone. RIP Lilly and Yoram
