Army Commander pldges good relations with Malawi

Share

Army Commander Paul Mihova has pledged continued good relations between Zambia and Malawi Defence Forces.

Lieutenant General Mihova said this in Lusaka yesterday in his office when visiting Malawi Defence Force Commander Henry Odillo paid a cortesy call on him.

Gen Mihova said the cooperation between the two countries dated back to centuries and transcended political, economical and social dimensions.

He said politically, the two countries shared a colonial past as far back as 1800s when Britain controlled the political, economical and social affairs of the two nations.

He said from 1953 to 1963, the two countries belonged to the Federation of Rhodesia and Nyasaland and that both nations contributed immensely to the breakup of the federation so that their people could be free to determine their destiny.

Gen Mihova said militarily, the two countries formed part of the Kings Africa Rifles as was evidenced by the sharing of the forces from the Kings Africa Rifles to form both countries’ First battalions.

He commended the visiting General and the Malawi Defence Force in particular for smooth transition of power following the death of President Bingu Wa Mutharika early this year adding that this showed that democratic principles were embedded in the people of Malawi and the Defence Force commitment and respect for the country’s Constitution.

In response, General Odillio said men and women in uniform had the responsibility to support political leaders so that peace and stability was maintained by the defence forces to enhance democracy.

Gen Odillio who is on a weeklong official visit to Zambia, said military leaders should be the first ones to show leadership in terms of ensuring that politics was left to the politicians.

  1. What is so special about this poor landloked country kansi? Strenghthen relations with countries that matter like SA and Botswana not these time wasters Malawi & Zimbabwe!

    • maybe the problem is that SA and Botswana have nothing to gain from your huge but poor nation. have thought about that?

  2. LETS PASS POSITIVE COMMENTS. THE MEN IN UNIFORM IN MALAWI ARE VERY PROFESSIONAL. EVEN DURING KAMUZU BANDA THEY RESISTED TAMPERING WITH THE CONSTITUTION AND THIS WAS REPEATED WHEN BAKILI MULUZI WANTED TO CHANGE THE CONSTITUTION TO SUIT HIS 3RD TERM BID. WHEN MBINGU DIED THEERE WERE SOME POLITICAL & POLICE ELEMENTS AND POLICE THE CONSTITUTIONN TO BAR JOYCE ABDNA FROM BECOMING A PRESIDENT BUT FAIKED.

  3. #5 Bwana Mkubwa Good contribution I read that in Nyansatimes. But what do you mean by the word *FAIKED*… You ended up running aground :)

  4. Malawi is a useless country full of witchcraft. Magochi is the headquaters of witchcraft. I hate malawi. Let Zambia be in good ties with SA and Botswana or even Angola. Congolese and Malawians are useless. To hell with them.

  5. Malawi is a useless country to us. Congo is a thorn in our flesh. Why do we have these two neighbours? I wonder!

  6. THESE ARMY COMMANDERS ARE USELESS AND CORRUPT DID YOU SEE THE JUST ENDED RECRUITMENT IN ALL THE THREE SECURITY WINGS,TOO MUCH CORRUPTION,IF SOMEONE WAS TO COME WITH A REBEL GROUP I WOULD RATHER JOIN THE REBEL THAN THIS SHIT OF ARMY WHICH HAS LOST ITS DIGNITY.IT NO LONGER A GLORY TO WEAR A ZAMBIAN SOLDIER UNIFORM BUT A SIGN THAT THE PERSON WEARING THE UNIFORM HAS RELATIVES IN THE ARMY.

  7. ZAMBIANS! PLEASE NOTE THAT NEIGHBOURING COUNTRIES ARE VERY IMPORTANT IRRESPECTIVE OF THEIR ECONOMICAL STATUS. MOST OF THE DISTRICTS SHARING BORDERS WITH MALAWI GET SOME OF THE SUPPLIES FROM MALAWI INCLUDING HEALTH SERVICES AND VICE VERSA JUST TO MENTION A FEW. SO TO SAY THAT MALAWI IS USELESS IS JUST BEING CHILDISH AND FOOLISH

  8. Zambians don’t be boostful. its a mistake, just thank God that u have copper which some contries dont have. its not by choice to born in a poor/rich familycountry.
