The Private Sector Development Association (PSDA) has observed that the use of appropriate technological methods in the housing and construction sectors would assist the country to provide affordable housing units to the general populace.
Private Sector Development Association Chairperson Yusuf Dodia noted that technology plays a fundamental role in the development of any country.
Mr. Dodia said it was through technology that tangible results in the housing sector can be spotted in infrastructure and other developmental works.
Speaking in an interview with ZANIS, the PSDA chairperson stated that bringing on board other avenues to tackle the housing deficit would help address the housing challenges which the country has been facing.
He lamented that Zambians had been crying for better accommodation in the area of housing for a very long period.
Mr. Dodia further urged Zambians to be proactive in the area of technology in order for them to have their livelihoods improved.
He underscored the need for the use of technology saying this was another way to reposition and enhance capacity for the housing schemes.
He stated that coming up with new ideas of modern housing construction methods was one of the cost effective ways to critically look into.
He said Zambians should ponder having other means of constructing houses such as adopting the interlocking bricks which are made of only soil and water, a much cheaper and convenient method.
And Mr. Dodia has praised the National Housing Authority (NHA) for announcing its five year strategic and business plan which is mainly anchored on adopting innovative modern construction methods with a view to make affordable housing units to Zambians.
Meanwhile, National Council for Construction (NCC) board chairperson Levy Zulu said the council will support any ventures that are undertaken by an individual or the corporate world to make affordable housing units across the nation.
Mr. Zulu stated that it was significant that NHA considers adopting other ways of having housing units owing to the increased demand for accommodation in Zambia.

Its good some people are thinking like this. Its true Zambians need affordable housing Units but i think the housing should not only be affordable but quality. The problem i have in Zambia is our Politicians’ capacity to prioritize. Our Politicians have failed to put their priorities straight and when i say so i don’t mean the PF Govnt only, i mean starting from UNIP to PF and this makes me doubt even other Political Parties like UPND etc
UNIP did very well in the beginning. We should be grateful their development plans. MMD rubbish! PF kaya. Â
Well said! The pre-fab solution Yugo-style of the Libala Stage 3 type in Lusaka have proved to be very vulnerable, the site servicing is nowhere as no real investments took place over the decades…decent home spread hygienic life-styles…stay on the ball !!
First lets start by relocating people from the combonis to better places, destroy the combonies and build better structures in place.
#1 WELL SAID. IN FACT QUALITY FIRST. THE HOUSES I SEE COSTING EVEN UP TO A MILLION US DOLLAR IN ZAMBIA LEAVE MUCH TO BE DESIRED. COMPARED TO THE HOUSES WHICH COST ONLY STARTING FROM A FEW TENS OF THOUSANDS (RANDS) IN SOUTH AFRICA ONE WONDERS WHETHER THE GOVT EXISTS IN ZAMBIA TO CONTROL THESE PRICES AND THE QUALITY OF STRUCTURES IN ZAMBIA. HOUSES IN ZAMBIA SHOULD BE THE LEAST EXPENSIVE IN THE SADC AREA GIVEN THAT WE PRODUCE THE MAIN INGREDIENT- CEMENT FOR CONSTRUCTION. FURTHER MORE, STEAL, INCLUDING ROOFING PRODUCTS ARE NO LONGER IMPORTED BUT MANUFACTURED IN ZAMBIA. HOW CAN THE IMPORTERS OF THESE PRODUCTS BE BUILDING, BY-AND-LARGE, HIGHLY AFFORDABLE HOUSES?
If there is one institution i dont hold in high esteem is NHA, these guys should have been pioneers in the housing sector. But look at some of their structures built few years ago like low cost PHI quarters…. Disaster. No innovation whatsoever when oppotunities are vast out their. Wake up guys.
Levi zulu is a crook with that Dodia of his, what technology are they lacking when levi himself is running a firm called zulu barrow, to design houses , roads , water etc this ka chipata chap isvery clever.
Thank you for any other excellent post. Where else could anybody get that type of info in such a perfect manner of writing? I’ve a presentation next week, and I am at the look for such info.
