The Movement for Multiparty Democracy (MMD) has today paid K300 million out of the K392 million the former ruling party owes the department of the Registrar of Societies in accrued statutory fees.

This is for 42 registered branches of the MMD, which threatened the former ruling party’s continued existence after it was threatened with deregistration.

Chief registrar of societies Clement Andeleki has confirmed the development to QFM News.

Mr.Andeleki says the MMD has committed to pay the remainder of 92 million Kwacha in the next three weeks.

He has since urged other societies to emulate the MMD and further reiterated his warning that the department will not hesitate to take action against any defaulting registered association.

Recently, Mr. Andeleki issued a 21-days ultimatum to the MMD to settle the outstanding balance, failure to which the party was going to be deregistered but the MMD assured him that they would pay.

Meanwhile, the Zambia National Marketeers Association (ZANAMA) has not yet received notification on the decision of the Minister of Home Affairs Edgar Lungu to throw out its appeal seeking the revocation of a deregistration order.

Recently, Chief Registrar of Societies Clement Andeleki deregistered ZANAMA on grounds that the association failed to serve its intended purpose by engaging in partisan politics.

ZANAMA general-secretary, Enock Chifuka has told Qfm news in an exclusive interview that the association is not aware of any decision by the minister regarding its appeal.

Mr. Chifuka said that for as long as the association has not yet been communicated to on the latest development, its operations at the market will continue.

He has further requested Mr. Andeleki to return the property belonging to ZANAMA which he is alleged to have seized when he made as impromptu visit to Chisokone market.

Mr. Andeleki has directed the Kitwe City Council to take over the running of Chisokone Market saying the fact that Minister rejected ZANAMA’s appeal, his deregistration order stands.

  1. These vile pompous chaps in the MMD cost us a lot of time which could have been avoided in the first place. Many thanks to Mr. Andeleki time to promote him to the Immigration office to many lazy chaps there!!

  2. BA MMD, WHY DID YOU HAVE TO BE SQUEEZE BY THE THROATY TO MILK OUT 3OOm, BE RESPONSIBLE GUYS ITS EMBARRASSING……………PAY ANDILEKI 10%??? OF CAUSE NOT FROM GRZ.

  3. Its a real shame the Registrar of Societies has no webpage as i wanted to thank Clement personally via email for the sterling work is he is undertaking in that department. We salute you!!
If this is what you call a witch-hunt then more of them please…

  4. Keep up the good work Mr. Andeleki, it takes time to build a nation, we are heading in the right Direction. That’s good revenue for the country. Hope the PF, UPND and others are paying up too.

  5. This is good development indeed. It is good sign to show to citizens that when you owe you must pay, if you don’t more cost can come with legal costs added. You have given us a good example of how we must be doing business, being honest in paying the bearer on demand. There are many people who have come to learn wrongly by being involved in predatory borrowing with intentions of not paying back to the lenders as per agreement made. It turns out to be very inconvinient to the lender! I salute the new MMD leaderships, may be that retreat is bearing fruits. Go on from here and do not involve yourselves with insults in politics, deal on winning hearts and minds of the electorates. That where the answer lies, rather than in trading insults, tribal tag, foul language. Do it in a civilized way.

  6. Mushota, MMD is the biggest opposition party in Zambia and was headed for deregistration if they did noy pay this money. This is bg news for both the opposition and the ruling parties.

  7. Now this is healthy. There are no losers nor winners. However this is a VICTORY for DEMOCRACY in Zambia. Congrats to both Andeleki and the MMD for putting paid to this rot. Let’s all ensure that democracy flourishes and thrives.

  8. Thanks to the MMD team and all sponsors.MMD is unstoppable 2016 back to the driving seat.watch the space…..

  9. Job well done Andeleki, zambia need more pipo  like Mr Andeleki to work in public offices to save zambia s from corruption

    • Nubian you should give credit when people do good, don’t be on on the negative side all the time. whats up with? The fact that they have paid something its the beginning

  10. BALIKWETE INDALAMA BAKOLWE ABA BUT THEY SPENT ALL OF IT TO MAKE JUST A POTRAIT OF ONE PERSON TO MESSUP THE ALL COUNTRY ASSUMING THAT IF THEY PUT ALL THOSE POTRAITS OF SHRECK EVEN ON ROAD SIGHNS THEN THEY WILL WINN ELECTIONS, BUT ALAS. THEY WENT INTO THE DITCH. NOW PEOPLE SHOULD JUST SHUT UP SAYING THAT PF IS WICHTHUNTING, THEY SHOULD NOW SAY THAT PF IS WATCHWORKING. WHY DID THE MMD DENY THAT AND THEN PAY AT LAST.?

  11. So MMD could not afford ZMK20 million per year in statutory payments, but they spent lavishly on other things. That should tell you volumes about the type of characters that run your nation for over 20 years. And they want to rule Zambia again!

  12. It makes us look like fools in the eyes of the international community . The opposition made us believe that this was a which hunt and run to foreign embassies for support. Next time they will not take the complaint seriously even if it it valid.

  13. @29 it is folly to judge the performance of the PF government on the basis of what you clearly view was a government led by Alibaba and the more than 40 thieves. That is the whole point of their being fired. Playing to the gallery aside, the PF government’s blatant assault on institutions of democracy like the judiciary (to benefit their supporters), freedom of expression and police professionalism are seriously worrying signs. It would be foolishness to  stay on a bus where a driver deliberately damages breaks, rear & side view mirrors and headlights and hope to see how things turn out when the outcome is totally predictable. The fact that the previous driver stole money before cashing in would be no comfort to you when the inevitable happens – believe me.

  14. Now we await M’membe and Nchito to follow suit. Their enermy has lead by example and now the focus will shift to them and their K18b debt.

  15. The lady in glasses looks like Dr Kaseba. Now we want our 14 Billion or is it 18 Billion from the kleptomaniac along bwinjimfumu road.

  16. I think the sounding gongs UPND caders are ashamed. Where is the witch hunt of the oppostion by PF you talked about?? You are really a finished party full of bitterness and frustration. Well done Adeleke and MMD.

  17. #31 THAT MAKES THE TWO OF US. I ALSO THOUGHT THE LADY WERE Dr KASEBA.
NOW TO THE ARTICLE: WHY HAVE MMD PAID IF THEY OWED DON’T OWE ANYONE. AIN’T THESE THE POEPLE WHO WENT TO EMBASSIES TO CRY WICH-HUNT?

  18. Opposition leaders, please go back to the embassies and write to the whole international community that PF is now extorting money from MMD so that it can collapse.

  19. Can Fred M,membe and Mutembo Chito pay our pending tax payers k14 Billion as we need it now since even the applea case is still no where to come to an end.
Fred and Chito be courageous and pay us our money.
    Congrats Andeleki

  20. #38 Nostradamus, the woman with nice fresh boobs is ex minister Catherine Namugala. Nice upright boobs in her mid to late 40s. That is why the MMD big wigs were crazy over her. Anyway, now that they have paid maybe we will be seeing more of her pictures. These guys have money. Big money I mean.

  21. Well done guys. I am glad you have seen the need and importance to follow the rules. f we the PF are adering to tem why shouldn’t you. Please keep it up.

  22. Finally Zambia is slowly crawling towards normality. Congratulations Andeleki for your professional conduct and PF Govt demonstration that they dont support partisan politics.
Hats off to Dr Mumba’s leadership. When Christians reign, things are in control. This is the politics we want.

  23. When is the balance going to be paid. Repeant ba MMD for having lied to the nation that you were up-to-date with the payment. VIVA PF. a working government.

  24. wow thumbs up M.M.D! you never gave up. This shows you are heading in right direction in the reformation of the party. Though am not in yo party this is a good start. Now focus on improving the image of the party which has been damaged terribly. With focus and determination you will rise up again like a noble eagle in its flight.   :)

  25. I do not know how you can thank the MMD for such a bad example, surely this is NOT how business should be done, being forced to pay instead of honorably fulfilling your responsibility; you even start calling those that have paid in good time as witch-hunters……the MMD nearly convinced us into believing that the PF kaponyas are targeting them in a”witch-hunt”game of some sort….what a wicked party….shame on you MMD!!!

  26. I’m now not positive where you’re getting your info, however good topic. I must spend some time finding out more or working out more. Thanks for wonderful info I used to be searching for this info for my mission.
