Opposition UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema has claimed that his party has unearthed a scheme by the PF government to start planting seditious materials at all UPND offices countrywide as part of a plan to arrest its top leadership.

Mr. Hichilema revealed at a news briefing last evening that the scheme would also target residencies of some top UPND officials.

He claimed that the source of the information is highly authentic.

Mr. Hichilema explained that the scheme is aimed at criminally implicating the party officials and end up throwing them in jail.

“We know what they are plotting, the unsuccessfully raid on our offices this week is just the beginning, we have authentic information that they are now going to target our homes and all our offices,” Mr. Hichilema said.

“We would like to warn all peace loving Zambians that this government is not up to any good, this reminds us of the zero option plan and Zambians have not forgotten which leaders were part of that scheme.”

Mr. Hichilema however vowed that no amount of intimidation from the police would silence his party.

“The UPND will continue offering checks and balances, we will continue reminding this government of its promises to the Zambian people and no one, including Mr. Sata will silence us.”

Mr. Hichilema also rubbished assertions from some media houses that he had gone into hiding at either the US or British Embassies in Lusaka.

“This is another blue lie from some newspaper, I was never at any Embassy. This shows you the desperation that the PF and their media friends are getting into. We respect our friends the British and the Americans especially with regard to good governance but I never hid at their respective offices.”

“Why should Hakainde hide?” he asked.

He also lashed out at the lack of professionalism exhibited by the Zambia Police Service when dealing with opposition leaders.

Mr. Hichilema said it is clear to see that the police is now working under pressure from Home Affairs Minister Edgar Lungu.

“They failed to even draw up a normal search warrant because they were under pressure, I pity our friends in the police because even they know that things are not well in this country. This government of Mr. Sata has succeeded in failing.”

Meanwhile, Mr. Hichilema has confirmed that the UPND will soon kick off a series of countrywide public rallies.

He said the first one will be in Kanyama and that the party and will address a number of development issues.

“We want to engage with the people, the same people that Mr. Sata has disappointed, we want to show them that the UPND is the alternative government,” Mr. Hichilema said.

  7. HH is a political failure whose tribal tag will never leave him. Anderson Mazoka, a Tonga, was not called a tribalist and UPND by then has a national appeal. Brig. Gen Godfrey Miyanda, a Tonga, has never been called a tribalist and does not campaign on tribal lines. Miyanda is one of the greatest political thinkers but Zambia never listened to his ideas. HH is just wasting his time and our time. He wont go anywhere in Zambian politics.

  21. Mazoka and UPND then were called tribalist by Chiluba & MMD. The problem is that some zambians were too young in 2001 and can not therefore remember what happened. You can call HH whatever name like under 5, but please take a moment and analyse what he is saying. PF has failed to repond to the issue he has raised e.g., uncoordinated power blackoutsby ZESCO. Therefore, under his leadership Zambians will enjoy the kind of freedom that those of in the USA enjoy. He will chart a course that will lead the country to economic empowerment. HH is a leader, Sata is a ruler. There is a difference. HH embraces all ethnic groups in Zambia.   30. The Bricklayer. I wish you were right. I have had the misfortune of talking to HH. He is very far from a man who listens to anything that opposes what he says, and he is very short tempered at that. UPND under Mazoka was more powerful than the PF which won the elections last year. How did the smart and clever HH fail to continue from there? Under Mazoka PF would have not had such an easy victory. Infact, UPND could probably have won that election. HH might have good attributes which I am yet to see, but leadership is definitely not one of them. He’s more of a boss, and if you disagree with him you are a hater. He said that to me on a radio program when I asked simply how the process of electing a president in UPND works.

The issue of tribalism was not this bad under late Mazoka (MHSRIP) because he was an all tribe encompassing leader. At least, my long time childhood tonga friends thinks and looks at him just as a mare joke and thank God for that.

The problem we have is that the current two Major Political parties UPND and MMD are busy destroying themselves by not offering alternatives and being Constructive opponents, they both have said all they want is to fight HE MCS. These Guys are more occupied by them being in State House than caring for the common Zambian’s welfare(high poverty). MCS cared for the masses and still attacked the Presidency on a number of issues, eventually people saw consistency and gave chance to PF. Opposition Change the way you look at issues be constructive and relevant to the masses of course i can single NAREP as being on the right path as a Starter.

  48. #42 CNP.Tell us what have you benefited from PF since they came to power a year ago apart from you being proud of having a tribesman in State house.If you are not related to the President or to any of his girlfriends, you will be eating pride for the next 10 yrs if President Sata will still be in power.No matter how much you fight and insult HH, he’ll still have 3 meals a day, good housing, reliable transport for the rest of his life including his children and grand children and probably his great grand children.I like any rightful thinking Zambia, will not bother who resides in state house, so long the basic needs of every Zambia are met and all have equal opportunity to prosper.That’s why I’m living in diaspora coz our past Presidents failed to provide that apart from the late LPM.

    • Living in diapora or not is simply one’s choice. I worked and lived in diapora for 16 years, came back to Zambia in 2008. I am happy working in private sector. My income streams include: portfolio income; passive income; earned income. This shows tghat there are opportunities in Zambia also.

      I do not depend on politicians to provide for my children at UNZA & CBU.

      Maybe you are still studying forever…… those courses that you do not look forward to completing or you are just working a baby sitter/ shop-attendant/ low-level jobs etc.

    • This won’t work and will only result in innocent bloodshed. It has been tried before. Ask the lozis tried that and knows what happened when they were only dealing with the police. It would be a grave mistake to involve the army, let alone the commandos because they are merciless and are devoid of tribal affiliations. They only answer to the government. About 60% of the Zambian voter’s population rejected the Pf government as reflected by the 2011 general election results. HH has raised a critical issue that is a danger to democrancy & the Zambia piece & development at large but the only response the pf supporter or sympathesers can do is to call HH names. Please think with your heads & adress the issue HH has put across.   69. Guys let us end this issue of family tree for a better Zambia. It is clear that the family tree in Zambia & diaspora are just using the Bemba people to remain in power. Why can Zambia for once unite for the better of the Zambian people. It is very wrong & foolish for a normal person to say only a bemba can be president in Zambia where we have 73 tribes. HH in his speech did not say anything to do wth a tribe but is calling on all Zambians to defend our infant democracy & denounce every move by the pf to intmidate the opposition at the expense of the suffering ordinary Zambians.   79. This guy does not learn, if the police want to harrass him, even this statement can be interpretted as alarming the nation. Does he have the evidence that he can point to that Government is planning this or that? This is somebody who is appearing in court on simmillar charges, what will stop the prosecution to use his latest statements to indicate that it is his nature of addressing the oublic by issuing unsubstantiated alarming statements???

  80. We are all deliberately being diverted from discussing issues to discussing HH and tribalism. This is because they are on very weak ground discussing development, the governing vision and agenda as non is evident. The family forest including the grass at the bottom has only one song, keep throwing the tribal tag and mud at HH, but that will be their undoing because the other tribes can see what is happening. Ask yourself for once, why all of a sudden is tribe such an issue now? When the rest of Zambia wakes up, the real tribalists will be walking on slippery ground.   81. I say hats off to President Sata that he has put this boy where he belongs by not responding to him. Being the experienced politician that the President is, he knows that answering this boy would just be giving him the attention which he doesnt even deserve. I would also appeal to some ministers who are reacting to this tribal leader, who only polled slightly over 18 percent of the total votes, mainly from Southern Province, to stop doing so. The chap will never amount to anything. His political career died before it started when UPND leaders like Ackson Sejani and Ng’ande Mwanajiti and others declared that only a Tonga could rule the UPND. The chap has never come out to condemn the sentiments and he is even still serving and dining with the same people. Let Tonga’s and cows vote for him

    We had KK who was perceived to be from Northern he had Dictatorial tendencies? Chiluba from Luapula was merely a dictator in a Democtractic Skin,and now Cycle Matta ,Ukwa,CNP(Sata) seemingly worse than the two.What is wrong with these two regions? Look at Mwanawasa(RIP)’s rule tolerant but with a little bit of short temperdness but that could be attributed to the Accident the had.RB a true Democrat nowonder he is winning International sympathy.

  86. Have you people noticed that President Michael Chilufya Sata has not directly answered HH on any of his countless statements from his Press Statements??? This is because he does not want to award him with unwarranted recognition, it is only a few Minister here and there and even them should ignore this guy. How many Press Statements and briefings has he held, this week alone??? Is he the only politician who always has something to say or do?? If you are a political analyst you also need to notice the lack of supportive statements from his senior members of the Party, especially Members of Parliament, forget about Edwin Lifwekelo, Edward Mumbi or indeed Douglas Siakalima, not to mention this upstart Cornelius Mweetwa. Most of the senior members of the UPNd understant the damage of approach!

    • But if you really think about it, we only hear from His Excellency when he is making appointments. Surely there are other issues Zambians would like to hear about from their leader (policy pronouncements for example). His silence on many issues is deafening to be honest.

  102. Spare a moment for our Police Officers. It must be very hard to act professionally when you are a decent qualified Police Officer in Zambia. You are ordered to go search opposition parties’ offices purely because your Head of State has a hunch. You are not armed with a search warrant, which make you look so f00lish and an armature . When you fail to produce a perceived outcome, you are ordered to ‘plant’ that outcome. Should that fail too, you are probably fired. You have no voice because you cannot form or join a Union. You are ill paid and are called all sorts of names. Yours is a profession without professionalism.

  106. I WONDER WHO CAN BE TRIBALISTIC BETWEEN THE TWO. IN 2011 ELECTIONS, PF GOT ALMOST 90% IN BOTH LUAPULA AND NORTHERN, UPND GOT ALMOST 90% IN SOUTHERN. THE SOUTHERN PROVINCE VOTING IS TAKEN AS TRIBAL, WHILE THE BEMBA VOTING IN THE TWO PROVINCES IS SAID TO BE ACCEPTABLE, FINE AND NORMAL. WHAT THE BEMBAS ARE UNCOMFORTABLE OF IN A TONGA PERSON IS HONESTNESS, HARDWORKING ABILITIES AND THE ABILITY TO BE SELF RELIANT OF A TONGA. ITS VERY REAR TO FIND A TONGA WHO FAILS TO MANAGE HIS LIFE. TONGAS BELIEVE IN SELF INDEPENDENCE NOT DEPENDING ON STEALING AS A CHOSEN PREREQUISITE TO ONE’S EXISTENCE. WE ARE THE JEWS OF ZAMBIA!
