President Michael Sata has said that the purported letter by a shadow group calling itself “Tongas under Oath” was drafted in Lusaka and not Southern province.

President Sata said that the group is just using the good people of Southern Province to propagate ethnic hatred.

He was speaking at State House when he swore in newly appointed Justice Minister Wynter Kabimba and Southern Province Permanent Secretary Chileshe Mulenga.

Mr Sata has emphasised that the Tonga speaking people have always been peaceful.

And Mr Sata has told the newly appointed Justice Minister and Home Affairs Minister Edgar Lungu not to interfere with the judiciary and the police.

President Sata directed Mr Kabimba to ensure justice is accessed by all Zambians regardless of their social status.

And speaking to ZNBC news after being sworn in, Mr Kabimba said he wants to see a people-driven judicial reforms process.

He said that it will not be possible for reforms to be spearheaded internally or by the judiciary itself.

Meanwhile Police in Southern Province have made headways in pursuing members of a shadow group calling itself ‘Tongas under oath.

Southern Province Police Commissioner CHARITY KATANGA said that her officers have closed in on the suspects believed to be Mazabuka residents.

The undercover group is demanding that Chirundu and Itezhi Tezhi be re-aligned back to Southern Province.

And Kalomo UPND Member of Parliament Request Muntanga has urged all the security wings to bring to book the individuals trying to divide Zambians on ethnic lines.

Mr Muntanga was speaking with ZNBC news in a walk in interview at Mass Media Complex in Lusaka on Wednesday.

  1. Good to hear that bosses.Though i think you should have let the police to make that confirmation since the whole case is under their investigation.

    • The president has spoken, what difference was it going to make the police comfirmed, the police is under command.

  2. very good words Mr President.I dont also know were this thing has come from.Tonga’s have been very peaceful pipo.Am sure its this under 5 chap.

    • such nonsense of acusing HH all the time.. THE president has already cleared the air and what remains is to respect each other between tongas and bembas.

  3. “President Michael Sata has said that the purported letter by a shadow group calling itself “Tongas under Oath” was drafted in Lusaka and not Southern province”……. By Sakeni and GBM. Im sure Sata has told them that this was a bad move.

Nomba iwe ka Charity Katanga, who are you closing in when you boss is saying the letter was written in Lusaka? Dont just say things to impress you bosses, be objective, that letter has PF all over it, who are you going to catch?  You were moved from Lusaka because of the way you dealt with the beating of UPND cadres and if you continue being tackless, you will be fired or retired.

  4. Katanga closing up with authors believed to be Mazabuka residents but the President is saying it was authored in Lusaka!!!!!

  5. At least today my President has spoken like a national leader. However I would like him to promise that he will not shield anyone once the authors of this dangerous letter are revealed.

  6. Southern Province Police Commissioner CHARITY KATANGA said that her officers have closed in on the suspects believed to be Mazabuka residents.

And is the president Lying? Who is telling the truth? Something is just not right Zambia. What in the world is going on with our institutions?

    • Mr Storella and Mr Chikane , US and SA ambassadors visited State House last night. They minced no words…….Mr Sata would be held accountable for any violence that would erupt as a result of irresponsible reportage by what they termed as media under the “control of the PF gov’t”.

  7. I am glad to hear those words Mr. President. I expected that from you sir. keep fighting for what will keep us one. I pray this will compeletly be history by tommorrow.

  8. We come from the same village with the president, but I do not agree on his ideologies, never have. Just happy to see and rightfully a man from our Tribe occupying the highest office as should be the norm, considering the influence the Bembas have over in Zambia
As the most dominant tribe in the country I reluctantly accept him as a president

    Thanks

  9. I’ve interrupted listening to Michelle Obama’s speech to blog on this amazing occurrence. Are you kidding me? The police are closing up on whom in Mazabuka? The charity Katanga needs to be fired -infact the whole incompetent police force needs to be fired. How is it the President is doing your dirty work for you? I cry for Zambia mwe!

  10. WELL SPOKEN YOUR EXCELLENCY. DON”T ALLOW SOME PEOPLE TO CONFUSE YOU.PF IS YOUR BRAIN CHILD AND EVERYBODY ELSE REGARDLESS OF MONEY OR INFLUENCE HAS GOT TO CONSULT YOU.I KNOW YOU HAVE AN INTELLIGENCE.

  11. “Drafting” in Lusaka doesn’t stop one from Living in Mazabuka. My president’s point is that Tonga pipo are peaceful. Just like Easterners, Northerners, North Westerners, etc. Ba Copperer chichileeeee! they are to peaceful!

  12. Drafted in Lusaka by whom? By some opposition leader who lives in Lusaka? UPND’s fears and suspicions are not farfetched?

  13. Yes it was drafted by the secessionists in Lusaka who are trying to win sympasy from their traditional cousins the TONGAS as a way of getting their BAROTSE LAND called western province. Catch them and see what they do coz the numbers against them is big to fight them.

    • @Henry, I think it will be best for us to be objective about this matter. This may arouse anger from the Lozi’s who will wish to defend themselves. right now, it is the Tonga-Bemba issue that need attention. I’m sure you wouldnt prove their ivolvement, would you?

  14. Tongas are good people am bemba and i once lived with a Tonga family, they are wonderful people and who ever is trying to dent their image should be taught a lesson,

  15. President Sata should rely on information submitted to him by professiomal personnel in the Office of the President (OP). His security hinges on the loyal, faithful and professional Security Officers. Charity Katanga is a mess who could have been entangled into a plot engineered by GBM and Sakeni. The President may ignore the truth filed by trained intelligent Officers at his own peril. His PF colleagues are in full gear jostling for his Republican Presidential Office.

  16. It is possible both Sata and police are right… Come on guys to be authored in lusaka does not mean the pepertrators must stick to lusaka… The good news is Sata talking like a stateman.

  17. President Sata directed Mr Kabimba to ensure justice is accessed by all Zambians regardless of their social status. This includes ka under5 tribal political underweight leader.

  18. President Sata said that the group is just using the good people of Southern Province to propagate ethnic hatred. These are wise words coming from people’s choice leader.

  19. And Mr Sata has told the newly appointed Justice Minister and Home Affairs Minister Edgar Lungu not to interfere with the judiciary and the police. I LOVE AND RESPECT THIS MAN!

  20. You pf fools why are you having sleepless nights over HH if he is an under 5 political underweight. Just consetrate on of 90 days fake blue lie to the Zambian people. Otherwise, its time for Zambians to learn so that we will not make the same mistake to put a CNP government into power again. HH is the man for the people of Zambia both the poor & the rich & all the 73 Zambian tribes.

    • We don’t earn marks for being sarchastic…Just help in bringing peace and unity the nation deserves. Remember, no political party or politician will ever bring heaven on earth…they all just try.

    • Look @the all statement that President Sata made.Y do u hv problems appreciating that Zambia is better under PF than MMD. U simply cannot come to terms with reality. As long as HH continues on the course he has embarked, rest u assured he will never be President even amidst massive vote rigging.PF is winning in 2016 with or without yo vote, U Up and Down member

    • Ba Kayomnbo grow up and realise that insults will not take your under 5 to state house. PF is in power till 2016 and if the Zambians are happy more five years to PF.

  21. Mr Sata has emphasised that the Tonga speaking people have always been peaceful. I become to like and love this man and i now believe that he is a God’s choicen one.

  22. Sata has been told off by the American and South African ambassadors. He was told last evening in a hastily organised meeting at State House that he will be personally held accountable for any violence that would result from the propaganda of hatred emanating from the state that he controls. He was reminded that the Rwandan genocide was fanned by sections of the media that carried unsubstantiated stories like the one about Tongas killing 3 Bembas in Southern Province. It seems the fool listened and got scared!

    • fanned by sections of the media…and especially by people that cannot speak to solve the problem. how do you expect Sata’s followers to respond to your comment?

    • what authority do the south africans have when they slaughtered 44 innocent miners demanding a fair wage- and for the americans -if they could they would have deported obama to kenya as they believe he is not one of them

  23. And speaking to ZNBC news after being sworn in, Mr Kabimba said he wants to see a people-driven judicial reforms process.

  24. Wow, so does the president know who is behind the said letter? All fingers seem to be pointing to a member or members of the family tree.

  25. Why not make appointments that are inclusive of all other tribes, Mr. President? You ap[pear to be stuck in a tribal supremacy time-warp as championed by Kapwepwe.

  26. Just campaign guys not this nonsense of looking to tribe no. Zambians will vote any person who has wisdom and knowledge to rule like they voted Sata. So even bo HH can be voted if he shows maturity and it is not too late for him to mature. Not the way he is coming out with a lot of bitterness and frustration.

  27. PF supporters , please lean something from UPND supporters. They have unanimously praised sata for those wise words about unity…when HH advise PF to fire SAKENI AND GBM,,try to agree and support him to avoid such imbalancement as a country. we are one zambia one nation.

    • may the language of biter bittter bittterrrrrrr stop now. we know who was bitter.. lets now embrace one zambia one nation…zambia 4 – uganda 0

  28. We have been living in peace since Zambia was created, let us continue living in peace and loving one another. ONE ZAMBIA ONE NATION. Every Zambian should be proud of peace we have.

  29. HERE IS A DEAL… WE should attack whoever uses abusive or tribal language here. lets deal with sata or HH as individuals… moreover i strongly believe if the two would shake hands again that would assure us of peace.. VIVA HH, VIVA SATA…after all Zambia is bigger than the two gentlement.

  30. If @all there are characters behind this unfortunate development, they must b arrested & keys thrown away @the bottom of the ocean.I don’t subscribe to tribalism, its wrong and should not be condoned. We say we are Christians, its such reckless characters that put the all Christianity concept into question. If madam Katanga is making headway let the due investigations of the police take course than condemning right now, even if you are party of the Up and Down party be objective.

  31. I never thought a day would come when I would praise CNP/Ukwa for uttering mature and Fatherly-like words to the nation. But I think as UPND, we need to give credit where it’s due. The president has spoken well regarding this Tonga/Bemba issue. I pray that GBM be disciplined for ocastrating such nonsense. Well done ba President. Now please deliver on the promises that failed in 90 days.

  32. ”…Then all the Chinese dignatories, resplendent in their military uniforms, stood up to sing the sad remains of the Zambia National Anthem…
Stand and sing of Zambia, work for free
Land of work and sweat in colony
Labour in the dark for your copper
    All gone, for a dollar
    All gone, cheap and free
    Praise be to China
    Praise be, praise be,
    Bless your great patience
    Zambia, Zambia
    Slave men you stand
Under the flag of your land
    Zambia, praise to thee
    All one colony.”
IF YOU WANT SOME MORE CHECK THE ZAMBAIN WATCHDOG!

  34. So what these stupid guys could be from Mazabuka but the letters could have been written in Lusaka. The issue is we will catch them.

  35. I agree with the President. Same way Zambian Watchdog is published outside Southern Province and purports that all Tongas support the tribalism it perpetuates.

  36. Well spoken your Excellency today: 1. Repossession of Zambia Railways is perhaps one of the greatest feat you will be remembered for. A strong railway system is the backbone of a strong economy. Revamp the railways and create thousands of jobs as submitted by Prof Chirwa. 2. Tongas are too intermarried with Bembas more than any other tribe. There can NEVER be war between the two tribes; they depend on each other. Visit any market in Southern Province and you will find Bemba traders. Visit Northern Province and you will find Tonga Farmers. 3. Wynter should heed your advice not to interfere with the judiciary and police. 4. Thank you for finally giving Southern Province a university; the University of Livingstone. Perhaps a name change to Musi-oa-tunya or Cuundu University?

  37. Sata got a bollocking from Storella and Chikane. The man was even given a phone to talk directly to Hillary Clinton and Jacob Zuma. He was told in no uncertain terms that he has to disown the rubbish in his media. The next thing is to fire GBM and Sakeni. The Americans and South Africans are waiting!

    • ln your dreams mate in your dreams!!! what authority does south africa have when they slaughtered 44 miners who were demanding a fair wage and for the americans there politics are more brutal and full of vitriol

    • Wishing thinking in your miniature little brain, keep on dreaming, you think Zuma has time for that, he has too much on his plate.

  38. So this letter is the seditious material that the police search of the UPND headquarters was supposed to uncover. So either there were too many UPND eyes around during the search for police to plant it there or maybe the planners had just forgotten that Charity Katanga had been transferred from Lusaka. In any case,it is insightful to compare the gravity of this issue with that of the statement for which Hakainde Hichilema has been arrested and charged with alarming the nation. We wait to see the course of justice in this case.

  39. yes it was GBM circulating these rumours. He really has it for HH.Thanks to America and South Africa for pumping some sense into our leadership.Zambians have always been peace loving and united,we embrace anyone. We don’t like what we are seeing in the media these days. Please our leaders should think of future generations.Times of Zambia can now tell us where they got the story of Tongas under oath

  40. This is hopeless propaganda from the President himself. His office released this letter to journalists. When did he find out that the letter was a fake? Today in the morning? Yesterday, when? A clear case of impeachment lies some where here!!!!! Serious MPs should take this up.

  41. We as South Africans being Africa’s power economic house are disappointed in the state of affairs in Zambia which has the potential to spark a civil strife and can also undermine our huge economic interest in the region. Zambia is strategically placed for South Africa’s vast economic ever increasing influence extending as away as Tanzania, Burundi, Rwanda, DRC congo. Our country accesses the above markets easily by road and Zambia is the preferred access corridal. South Africa has injected huge investments in the mining sector and more plans are in the pipeline. It has huge economic interests in uranium deposits worth hundreds of billions of dollars in Zambia’s Gweme valley, Southern province. S. Africa’s economy is more than half the entire Africa’s economies put together.

  42. Its good the president has the correct information.Rumours are bad and could distroy the nation.Lets build this country on the trueth and not lies…….whether from the opposition or the government of the day.Lets critisize to build and not to distroy. We only have one country- mother Zambia. One Zambia One Nation!!!!!

  43. We got our provincial demarcations wrong from day 1. In most cases these demarcations were based on the geographical areas covered by a particular group or groups of people speaking the same or similar tribes rather than ease of governance and effective delivery of social services to our people. A realignment of the boundaries is essential and must not be mistaken for autonomous land parcels where people from elsewhere within our mother Zambia be made to feel foreign, NO!!!

  44. So who is telling the truth, Katanga or the President….. or this is one of those things that are star dust along with seditious, materials, 90 days accomplishments, assasination plots and 20,000 Jobs !

  45. While I commend the president for his reaction I think he ought to be aware by now that his worst enemies are not UPND but a couple of senior members in his cabinet who regularly
issue careless and divisive statements. Mr Sata must start cracking his whip to instil discipline in his team.

  46. UPND with their Watch dog are the ones behind the useless letter. This is what their website hosted outside Zambia agitates for…hatred against Bembas. It is so shameful that the Watch dog promotes tribalism especial against the Bembas. Very very sad indeed. Watch dog is a useless website of tribalism. Nonsense.

  47. Thank God Jesus has prevailed in the affairs of Zambia once again. May the Lord continue prevailing over the affairs of Zambia and may he fight all of Zambia’s battles against  all evil because Jesus overcame all evil and wickedness on the Cross of Calvary. Zambia belongs to Jesus.

  48. This issue is really sickening. Any sensible person knows that this is propaganda.. this time  i agree with the president. Who ever started this no sense should be dealt with to the fullest extent of the law. People should learn its not long ago when they had genocide in Ruanda, also not forgetting the Vietnam war which was stared by  the Demonizing the enemy propaganda technique. Zambians are peace loving people. What happened to Tiyende Pamodzi Ndimutima Umodzi.

  49. That Katanga girl is a peace useless. Sata should fire her this time around, she so pompous, in Lusaka Police officers didn’t want to salute her, ended up officers reporting late to avoid her.

  50. Where are all the pastors, reverends, priests, bishops, civil society organizations and all well meant citizens. Go out in the public places and preach against this barbaric, *****ic tribalism promoted by PF ministers GBM and Sakeni. Shame on you.
You do not need a degree to read the whole plot. Even my pupils in grade 9 after reading a series of James Hardley Chase were able to tell me who the authors are and yet a so called professional policewoman is saying she is closing up with the authors. Do we still have brains remaining in this country?

  51. flag lonero says:
Thu Sep 06 at 7:43 am

Mr Sata is just trying to win the Tongas hearts, we know this. Ala we are old enough to understand these schemes.

  52. MUSHOTA,
You say “rightfully a man from our Tribe occupying the highest office as should be the norm, considering the influence the Bembas have over in Zambia as the most dominant tribe in the country”. My sister, are you saying that Mandela being a Xhosa had no business being the president of South Africa and Obama too in America? just to mention two examples.

  53. arresting people trying to divide the nation is very bad. so those Tonga under oath should be arrested. those who are using triblism against other tribes in zambia to divide the nation, and we also know their tribe, should lso be arrested, even if they are in power.

please zambia can do better than where we are now as a nation.

  54. It is sad to see how people can easily be fooled by one statement. people may be too young to remember zero option. this was a plan by a desperate government to weaken the opposition much the same as what is happening here. Check the cases from zero option and see if anyone was truly guilty. At the time the biggest threat  was KK and Dean and government which included the president hatched the same tactics they are using now. This the waste kind of jealous exhibited by government. Can these guys get back to what they were elected for.
