A 23-YEAR-OLD man of Kawama township in Chililabombwe has been sentenced to five years imprisonment with hard labour for killing a 22-year-old woman who turned him down.

The incident happened during a drinking spree. This is in a case in which Musonda Sichone pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of manslaughter, contrary to section 199 of the Penal Code chapter 87 of the Laws of Zambia.

Sichone was earlier charged with murdering Ms Juliet Mumba, contrary to section 200 of the Penal Code chapter 87 of the Laws of Zambia.

Kitwe High Court judge Isaac Kamwendo yesterday jailed Sichone for unlawfully causing the death of Ms Mumba after hitting her with a brick on the head.

Passing the sentence, Mr Justice Kamwendo said: “I hereby sentence you to five years imprisonment with hard labour with effect from the date you were arrested.”

Particulars of the offence are that Musonda on September 27, 2011 in Chililabombwe, unlawfully caused the death of Ms Mumba.

Facts before the court are that on September 27, 2011 between 21:00 hours and 23:00 hours, Sichone was drinking chibuku with Ms Mumba at Kalangwa tavern in Kawama and that the two were the last to leave the tavern.

The court heard that on their way home, a quarrel erupted, which resulted in a fight and that both of them were drunk. Sichone hit the woman on the head with a brick and ran away.
The court heard that Ms Mumba bled profusely and later died at Chimfunshi clinic where she was rushed for treatment.

  1. Is quarreling turning someone down in today’s English??? Change your ka tittle ba LT.. There is no connection between your tittle and the article

  2. no wonder the terrorists in mali are asking for sharia law. some judgements passed by the so called learned zambian bench are a circus and comedy or errors. 5 years sure even when this chap knew what he was doing. He was not drunk because if he was, he would have not gone all the way to want sex. People who are really drunk tabwina no kwima pantu acetylcholine is blocked by the alcohol and hence low amount o blood rushing to the trumpet. If at all bwali ima he was partially or pretending to be under the influence of the germany coffee.

  3. The picture of a van carrying opaque beer about to be sold illegally does not match with the story of the man who killed a woman after being turned down.
Lusaka Times what are you trying to imply?

  4. how did it even get reduced to man slaughter? this was suppose to be first degree murder. this dude is suppose to go to jail for very long time.  something is wrong here, someone find out please.

  5. The five year jail term slapped on a Mr Musonda Sichone is too small for a case of manslaughter.
Such judgements keep on piling anger in people’s hearts. To avoid that the judicial system should ensure that sentences are passed accordingly in offenses committed.

  6. Only 5 years? It is not so bad so when a woman says no, you just kill her and then for five years you go and chill and then you are out.

  7. 5 years is a death sentence in Zambian Prisons. He will come out with HIV from the sodomy in those prisons. In fact, any custodial sentence in our Prisons is a death sentence.

  8. Imwe chibuku ilemwa sana umuzompiki.Olobukosa nasana.lol..anyway on a serious note i also think the five years sentence is not good enough. The chap desreved more years muchitaka taka.MHSRIP

  9. Ngabakukana, ninshi nabakukana! Then you go elsewhere, where ngabakukana, use cold water on the shaft, to make Johnny go to sleep while you try elsewhere. Five years? Yachepa sana – twenty years would have done more justice!

  10. Fkn Rubbish!! 5 years.. are u kidding me iwe pushi for a judge?? Why??? Zambia is a circus mwe!!! Everything i read here is just so annoying…. and the kama title makes no sense..

The government, the opposition everyday life is a joke.. they care more about the media and blaming each other than focusing on development.

The tribal nonsense makes me wanna puke… who cares if am black or blue or bemba or whatever.. what i bring to the table is all that matters.. Focus on improving the country imwe ba konto.
