Kabimba gives Given Lubinda a 7-day ultimatum to exculpate himself on allegations of leaking information to the media

Foreign Affairs Minister Given Lubinda has been given a seven-day ultimatum in which to exculpate himself on allegations of leaking vital Patriotic Front vital information to online publications and working in collaboration with opposition MMD and UPND.

The development comes barely after the PF held a consultative meeting where, PF secretary general Wynter Kabimba warned of stern action against members with divided loyalty.

Mr Lubinda is accused of actively collaborating with the opposition with the intention of discrediting party policy and bringing its name into disrepute.

He was also accused of leaking adverse information to online newspaper publications namely the Zambian Watchdog and the Daily Nation newspaper.

In a letter dated December 10, 2012 which was signed by Mr Kabimba, Mr Lubinda’s grace period of exculpation would be followed by a disciplinary committee hearing in accordance with party laid down disciplinary procedure.

“I have received adverse reports against you (Lubinda) from members of the PF including MPs regarding acts of disloyalty to the ideals of the party by you as a member. It is alleged that you have been actively working and, or collaborating with some members of the opposition in the MMD and UPND with the intention of discrediting the party’s decisions and policies and hence bringing the name and image of the party in disrepute.

“It is further alleged that you have been responsible for planting some of the adverse articles in the Daily Nation newspaper against the party and its leadership. In your collaboration with some opposition MPs you have been responsible for leaking confidential information to them which information came into your possession as a senior member of the party.

“Such information has been regularly posted by your collaborators or yourself on the Zambian Watchdog so as to discredit the image of the party and its leadership. Your alleged acts are in breach of your obligation as a member under the party Constitution for which the party intends to institute disciplinary action against you. In view of the foregoing I would be obliged to receive from you an exculpatory statement within seven days from the date hereof for reference to the disciplinary committee for consideration and determination of this matter,” the letter stated.

The letter was also copied to President Michael Sata. Efforts to get a comment from Mr Lubinda proved futile by press time as his mobile phones were not reachable.

During the PF consultative meeting, Mr Kabimba urged PF members to seriously look out for traitors in their midst even among some members of the central committee, ministers and members of parliament whom he said pretended to be with PF while they also owed allegiance to other political parties.

He said such individuals were not welcome in the ruling party because they were in the habit of leaking confidential information and destabilizing the party for their own selfish aspirations.

“Such people are responsible for leaking of internal information and destabilizing the party for their own selfish aspirations. As a party we have to firmly deal with such individuals because their actions are inimical to the interest of the party and its future” Mr Kabimba.

Mr Kabimba called for high levels of discipline, unity and hard work among PF members in order to take Zambia forward.

  14. I think it’s a diversionary tactic. But then again most politicians in Zambia are like him- only difference is Kabimba is quite the ‘pirate’ (rude, full of himself, ignores the rules, etc) in mindset- always looking out for numero uno.

      It may be too early to judge Lubinda and besides, any well meaning Zambia with the slightest ounce of integrity would perhaps be regretting being part of this calamity of a Govt. but before we condemn or praise Lubinda, it my be wise to reflect on a quote I read on this blog yesterday. “Being clever is to believe half of what you are told, but being brilliant is already knowing the half that you believe”.

Traitors, sounds like Gestapo and Nazi Germany all over again…there was one time Sata was doing the same in MMD, with Kafupi quietly approving and Sata hoping that Kafupi would pass on the leadership belt…but we all know the story…Sata was done badly that time…i wonder what the Hon Justice minister is up to, getting rid of challenges to the top throne…i hope not.
    Either way, PF needs to tighten its management and control channels…if this man has been working according to the issues raised, then they should indeed sort him out, if not there is going to be a lot of losing face because i want to believe that the State President will not take such witch hunting kindly…Mr Secretary General could be walking on thin ice here…watch this space, the plot thickens!

    • Hmm, the comparisson to Gestapo and Nazi Germany is  a little extreme, but I get your point. They could start killing people in a gas chamber and trying to take over the world.Perhaps grow a race of super *****s like Kabimba et al.

I squarely place the blame on President Michael C Sata’s leadership, the buck stops with him, he should have dealt with issue before this cancer spread; Sata should not have appointed this man in the first place whilst he was still an SG and should have temporarily suspended both GBM and Kabimba pave way for ACC investigations BUT instead opted to run away to tour of South Korea and Japan. 
    This is what happens when there are no checks and balances, no press conferences only press statements….our leaders become out of touch. It is clear that Kabimba is not going to walk that plank alone and he is surely not going down alone.
    What message does this spend to the party rank and file….all this at the expense of national development.

  27. I do not think that Sata disapproves of what Kabimba is doing in the country and the party. I think they are together on this one or else Kabimba wouldn’t be going this far. Sata did the same in the MMD, used the same tactics Kabimba is using now so just as well we can conclude that Kabimba is a replica of Sata, obviously under his tutelage. Times have changed however and am sure a lot of people in the country are disgusted with Sata and the PF for the political intimidation and the dictatorial tendencies they are portraying and for sure change will come soon.

  37. Unfortunaely Kabimba speaks for Sata, most of the press statements Kambimba makes are written by Sata and people wishing for Sata to instill some discipline in Kabimba are day dreaming. It is a pity that Sata and Kabimba are scared of Lubinda who is one of the few sane persons in PF. Kabimba is exhibiting the same behavior like Sata did in the MMD during the reign of the late FTJ. But for Kabimba, once Sata goes down he will not make it in politics as he has no caliber of any sort!

  39. I thought Pf has been asking the opposition to work with them. What has gone wrong for Lubinda to work with the Opposition?

    • In law, a case if argued before a trier of fact on what is termeda ‘fact in issue’. And it is a notorious fact that the President and PF have preached and embraced working with other parties and MPs. That is the fact in issue. MMD MPs now serve in the PF government as Deputy Ministers on the fact in issue: inclusive and accommodating democratic politics. And now when a senior Minister embraces the colleagues across the isle, he is charged with subverting the PF. Countrymen, do you remember the fate of Machungwa and 14 MPs? Could perhaps the intolerance of opposition be the ‘fact in issue’ for the PF i.e the President and his SG?

    • I would suggest link to your sicipfec page. Search engine ranking sites by page not by whole site. And if you anchor your article to your page in the blog, and then from the article, create another inbound anchor link to your domain name. This creates better linking and boost higher ranking of your sites. I have a few sites doing this and in very short while it can rank very high in google search engine, of course those sites are less competition niche, but still can beat hundreds of thousands and even a few millions site out there. This linking play a part too.

  52. It is very sad seeing PF sinking so low due to one man in the name of Kabimba. The problem is that Kabimba is fighting to presidency and he is now starting to oppress all the reasonable people in PF. However, SATA should sort out this overzealous Kabimba as soon as possible or else the whole PF is almost getting into extinction and if nothing is done to control is useless behaviour, PF will surely be the shortest serving government in Zambian history. Given Lubinda is by far better than Kabimba in most respects and i hope SATA realises this fact.

  70. Lubinda is the only one who seems to have some intellectual approach to issues, and can obviously be a threat to people who are not on par. Wherever the president has toured with Lubinda, Lubinda has been able to articulate issues and re-direct some of the president’s mis-pronunciations. The government says opposition should work with government, so what is wrong with someone in the government working with opposition? Leaking info is an other matter, which I doubt Given did, but as an articulate intellectual he is more of a threat than GBM. Anyway, I guess we wait and see. The problem is being an intellectual and reasoning based on issues while working with people who work based on slogans…

  79. I have keenly followed Hon G. Lubinda political career. He is one of the very few MPs who fully understands their roles in public service. We in Kabwata have a damn good intelligent MP. I strongly doubt the strange accusations of information leaking etc. He is above that nonsense. Many in PF are not as popular as Hon Lubinda. Mr. Kabimba is scared that Hon Lubinda might just run and win republican presidency one day soon. Lubinda is damn good material for President of Zambia. Please don’t destroy a good leader, he loves Zambians more than you. One year in office you are behaving like MMD already. If you chase him out of PF he will win as an independent. I just hope he does not go back to vomit. Zambia first party, third.
