Government has said that it has credible information on a Rwandese national Abdul Simwaya that guarantees his deportation to the country of his origin.

Home Affairs minister Edgar Lungu said that the government is aware that Mr. Simwaya has been an agent of the Rwandese government and that he is wondering why Mr. Simwaya has been rejected.

Mr. Lungu has told a media briefing that the government is also aware that Mr. Simwaya had been issuing death threats to a refugee resident in Zambia adding that the deportee in question is inimical to the state.

Mr. Lungu added that as Minister of Home Affairs, he is duty bound to ensure that foreign nationals resident in Zambia abide by the laws.

The Minister noted that government will not hesitate to deport foreigners that breach the Zambian laws adding that prosecuting them locally will just further strain the country’s judicial system.

The children of Mr. Simwaya have challenged the government to explain to the nation the charges that led to the deportation of their father.

  1. this man is always drunk when making decisions. last time we were told that simwaya was linked to terrorist organization in East Africa ( AL SHABAAB). today he has changed the goal post to claim that simwaya is a spy for rwanda. who is normal in this government? its full of mad and drunk chaps

    • Am equally wondering.I will not be surprised that the govt acted on rumours (petty jealousies) of a resident refugee about Simwaya.Too sad.

  2. The ploy to have Lubinda expelled from PF should not be entertained because he is the only normal and presidential material.Look at Lungu, looks drunk and he was,Lusakatimes don’t put old pictures,we are interested to see how this malnorished guy is.This Rwandan was rejected meaning before deporting someone pliz EDGAR think and Substantiate the originality of a person,,,,save us from international shame..what kind of Minister are you?at Zambia, president G7..learned people finished and disgruntled lawyers who have never won a case e.g Kabimba,Edgar then you put this calibre to handle National Affairs?

  3. I think what is riling most people is the fact that this man has lived in zambia for close to 50 yrs and is still being called a foreigner and even being deported. Why aren’t these people given a fair hearing.Who is paying for the air tickets if its tax payers -zoona you are really misusing public funds.

  4. Another bunch of lies from a bunch of liars. What is there to spy on in Zambia for the benefit of Rwanda or if indeed this guy has been a spy for that long, why have we seen any “fruits” of his spying? Lame excuses by the Minister. Foreign or otherwise everyone should be subjected to the Law of the land and if this man was a spy or indeed responsible for any offences that warrant deportation, he should have been put through the courts and deported after being convicted. A Somalian (national..not a person of Somlian background) in Ndola killed another man (Zambian) only a few days ago. He has appeared before the courts today charged with Murder. Why, in such a clear cut case, has he not been deported to avoid conjesting the same court system?

  5. Sata through voicemail Chella is quoted as suggesting that this Govt wants to uphold democracy and the rule of Law..however, to avoid straining the Judicary a Lawyer and home affairs minister, sees is fit to publicly say that to avoid straining the Judicary we will deal with people outside the justice system. What a state of affairs…no wonder people like Lubinda have decided to work against. This guy and Winter should be struck off from LAW. You, as Lawyers, are supposed to defend and uphold the Law

  6. If the man was a spy how come you send the spy back to his masters so that he can tell them your secrets dull minister find a better lie.

  7. ZAMBIANS AMAZE ME. THEY GET DEPORTED ABROAD AND OVERSEAS THEY DO NOT STAND FOR DEPORTEES NEITHER DO THE OWNERS OF THE COUNTRY. LEAVE DEPORTATION TO THE MINISTRIES HOME, AND FOREIGN AFFAIRS.

    • You are subjected to a due process before you are deported. There are several people who have appealed against a deportation order and worn through an independent tribunal (that is here in the UK). People that comment in ignorance have a tendency of the kind of thinking that excludes processes…at best and the LAW at worst…

    • You have hit the nail on the head. Many Zambians get deported and the Zambian government has never done anything to help them, let alone legal advice. And when we deport a foreigner from our own country the whole nation is crying. Please try atleast once to love your country and stand by it and it’s leadership that you elected democratically. All countries are doing just that, cherish your land. Those foreigners who have settled in our land will always have somewhere to go where as for us this is where we belong. Hence we will not allow anybody to play with that.

  8. What you are forgetting if you become a problem to a country on acquired citizenship , the citizenship can be withdrawn and deported to your country of birth. This is happening in western countries if you are perceived to be a terrorist.

  9. Sometimes as state security you are not allowed to say alot of things, keep it simple and just say security reasons caused deportation,Zambians go to Rwanda then talk about humans rights and see how well it applies there. The story looks small but is bigger than any of you think.Blog on issues like football and your RB NOT this one…..

  10. The reporting is terrible. We need information please. What I can make out is that Lungu is saying this guy was a spy. Is that what you understand fellow bloggers?

  11. SO HE HAS BEEN SPYING SINCE 1966 WHEN HE ARRIVED IN ZAMBIA AND HE HAS BEEN LEFT SCOT FREE…. HMMM EVEN IN MOVIES IT NEVER WORKS LIKE THAT. :-?

  12. This man is barking mad how on earth can a minister make such utterances without provoking a diplomatic showdown with our Rwandan counterparts..even if its true. Didn’t this man have a Zambian passport? We can have such calibre of individuals representing a sensitive department as Home Affairs and you people are happily registering your phone details to these characters. Can you honestly trust him with your details..take a good look at him. Mr. President where the hell are you? Press conference please!!!
    Wake up people!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  13. The tip of this ice berg is state security the rest should be handled professionally.Bwana minister may be you need a PR officer to speak for you on sensitive issue especially involving other nations, why was nevers fired by mwanawasa ..Keep it simple boss…

  14. Zambians amaze me, so for you to accept, it has to take something bad to happen like the case of the late Holland Kabaso killed by the somalian, and then you same people will condemn the govt saying they are not doing enough with checking foreigners in zambia.

  15. Deutoronomy 32:5. They are corrupt and not his children; to their shame they are a warped and crooked generation.

May God arise and deliver Zambia, May he bring an end to this terror, May he look upon the Zambians with compassion and loose them from the wicked leaders, May he usher in a leadership with a Genuine calling and compassion to serve the people. Surely as the Lord lives, Zambia shall be saved, Watch and see.

  16. Zambians I think most of you are bitter.when we are short at you brame the govt, when you are protected you brame again so what do you want.bwana minister plz do your job without interferance I can’t trust these comments.

  17. zambians amaze me, this has a questionable CV yet you are supporting him. you want him to kill a zambian before you react. why are zambians so sympathetic to foreigners. cant we support our minister for he has done something in the interest of the country. This refugee guy if he is agrieved can go and appeal to IOM , UN, or wherever

  18. Abdul case!this man is mature enough to tell his place of birth.was he born in zambia?for rwandan governement to reject him was it fair?up to now abdul still has relatives living in rwanda and that is enough to be evidences of his origine.deporting him would have been good after conviction by a court of law.however, grz has got power to act in a way that suits them to protect public interests.anyway that is a lesson for all those who acquired citizenship here, never forget ur root anytime are candidate to be sent back

  19. Was Mr Abdul Simwaya a Rwandan National or a Zambian National? When was his Zambian nationality/citizenship revoked? When he got Zambian citizenship Rwanda was not accepting dual citizenship. This means that he lost ipso facto his Rwandan citizenship. When did he become a Rwandan citizen again?
Please try to explain more about this Mr. Lungu!!!!
