Road Transport and Safety Agency (RTSA) Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Zindaba Soko has expressed sadness at the death of nine people who perished on the spot in Kapiri Mposhi in a road accident yesterday.

The accident occurred after a Marcopolo bus collided with a Toyota Hiace minibus killing nine and leaving seven people with injuries.

Mr. Soko said it was sad that many people die just because of a single individual not taking proper consideration of rules and practices on the road

He was speaking in Lusaka today.

He stated that RTSA had embraced a zero tolerance stance to road unworthiness and would not relent to enforce adherence to proper driving rules.

He appealed to motorists, bus operators and the general public to be cautious as they travel to protect their lives.

Police Spokesperson Elizabeth Kanjela yesterday confirmed the accident which happened around 15:00 when the driver of the Hiace minibus tried to overtake a Rosa Mini-bus but encountered a head-on collision with the oncoming Marcopolo bus.

Ms. Kanjela revealed that Police and Kapiri Mposhi Hospital personnel rushed to the scene to attend to the injured and took them to the hospital together with the dead.

The seven that were injured have been admitted to Kapiri Mposhi district hospital for treatment.

The minibus, whose registration number is ACM 2334, was travelling from Kapiri Mposhi to Ndola while the Marcopolo Scania bus, registration number ABG 7403 was heading to Kapiri Mposhi from Ndola.

    • TOO BAD….WHILE THE SATANISTS ARE CELEBRATING……LORD FREE THIS NATION FROM UNTIMELY DEATH.LET THE SATANISTS DRINK THERE OWN BLOOD AS SWEET WINE.AND LET THEM EAT THERE OWN FLESH….THE BATTLE IS THE LORDS…….

  1. #2 Ching Chong, you cannot mystify every accident. From the report, it is clear that the driver of the Hiace minibus erred. Many Minibus drivers have made similar mistakes of judgement and ended up in the mortuary.

  2. May RATSA do there job without fear or favour. To me it appears they re more of enricing themselves than genuinily saving

  3. Ba CEO of RTSA pliz work like a Chiwala Boy to bring down the number of those accidents Please. Its really heart-broken to always read papers full of accidents which could easily be avoided if proper road signs and guidelines were followed. Maybe its high time you introduced proper driving lessons which should bring in 3 types of driving licenses like its here in the Western World. The first 1 should be just studying the High way Code and then write the Test with a certain pass mark, can not drive alone. The second one should be a Road test which only those competent to drive should be given a 2nd Drivers License after 1 year and the 3rd one should be a graduating kind of a license which involves one being able to drive in highways like Great East/North Road with Defensive kind of Driving.

  4. The problem in Zed is people do not follow rules on the road. Moreover, driving licences are dished out to people without going through proper driving lessons (note: I do not want to say: Corruption). For obvious reasons, enforcement of rules is also defective (again, I do not want to say: Corruption). The end result of all that is devastating, indeed. We lose more lives and limbs than countries with more vehicular traffic. Reason is because the follow the rules of the road strictly; and we do not.

The sad part of the story is: we all know this issue too well, but no one is prepared to stop it! Even those who paid to do the (enforcement) job appear to be helpless.

  5. Sorry for the victims of this accident. However all major roads in Zambia should be dual carriage ways. That way overtaking is avoided. There is no car coming from the opposite direction. Everyone is going one direction only.

  6. Of course satana the devil is the cause of all accidents, but as we pray to God to help us let us also do our part coz that accident was due to minibus driver neglegence.

  7. Dual carriage way is the solution for this perilous road. The government must act to save lives. And i totally agree that the public service vehicle drivers should be certified better each year.

  8. I believe some time ago these small mini buses were banned from going long distance after a spate of accidents involving them. Has this ban been lifted? I see a lot of these small minibuses operating on the Ndola, Kapiri and Kabwe route. Any answers from RTSA?

  9. Zambia can do better RTSA please look at the pipo who are die from road accidents try to put in measures and punish the calprits, check the bus terminals, check the speed of some vehicles, the number for those who are dying its just to high while we have the government to solve such cases

  10. the problem is with this minibus drivers and their buses also are not in good condition but their getting vehicle fitness.come and see the lawlessness which is heppining in the lumumba filter lanes while rtsa officers watch them. The inconvenience caused to us motorists who have to use these route everyday due to our businesses been their is very shamefull and pathetic to say the least.plse rtsa do your work .
