The government has dismissed accusations leveled against it by United Party for National Development (UPND) leader Hakainde Hichilema that it has illegally paid First Lady Dr Christine Kaseba K1.5 billion while the University Teaching Hospital (UTH) is in a crisis.

In a press statement made available to ZANIS yesterday by the Minister of Information and Broadcasting Services, Kennedy Sakeni said the accusations by Mr Hichilema are cheap and baseless as no such money has illegally been given to the first lady by the government.

Mr Sakeni said the oxygen plant at the children’s wing is intact and operations are normal and therefore it is untrue that premature babies in incubators are dying due to lack of oxygen as stated by Mr Hichilema.

The information minister who is also the Chief Government Spokesperson has since advised Mr Hichilema to tame his growing and insatiable appetite for exaggerations and falsehoods which he (Mr Hichilema) cannot substantiate.

Mr Sakeni has further urged the people of Zambia to ignore unconstructive and unsubstantiated criticism from people like Mr Hichilema, adding that the Patriotic Front Government is on a serious mission to improve people’s living standards.

  1. Allo Sakeni why don’t you call him bitter again? are you sure nobody died because of the oxygen shortage, OK maybe not but what about the medicines?. Admit it, YOU ARE BITTER BECAUSE HH CALLED YOU OUT.Didn’t Kabimba accuse GBM, we can’t unsee what he did to the ACC, wasn’t Kambwili threatened, isn’t Lubinda being hounded for doing the right thing Masebo is another story.. LMAO!! YOU ARE BITTER HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

    • Can the good minister please outline the policies the current government is putting in place when he says “Patriotic Front Government is on a serious mission to improve people’s living standards.” And how our lives will be improved, that way we as citizens are obliged to do our part. I think it is imperative that we are kept in the know with such issues so that they don’t pass us by. If not I will be bitter, who are they leading if not me?

They say ignorance is not an excuse, can you please ensure that we are not sir.

  2. ATASE SAKENI, WHO ARE YOU TRYING TO FOOL ACKNOWLEDGING THAT A PROBLEM EXIST IS THE FIRST STEP OF SOLVING THE PROBLEM, NOW ALL U ARE DOING IS PLAYING DEFENSIVE GAME, I THINK ALOT OF ZAMBIANS ARE NOW FED UP OF PF, I WISH RB DIDNT HAND YOU POWER WE COULD HAVE JUST SENT POLICE TO CANE AND HAMMER ANY UNRULLY PF CADRES TRYING TO DO THE EGYPTIAN DEMOS

  3. The management at the hospital confirmed that two children died and that oxygen was purchased but was not yet in the country. What then is the minister saying because if the relatives to the deceased hear this statement, aaah! Just accept coz we know u r not a Technocrat, in short u r ignorant.

  4. The Sata….nists are quacking and quaking! PF Pinniochos have been exposed for the congenital liars that they are. This is Zambia’s worst government since independence……it’s tribal, nepotistic, incompetent, untruthful, dictatorial, uninspiring, clueless, corrupt and visionless!

  5. That oxygen plant at UTH is owned and managed by a private indian company contracted by the mmd governemt. It produces. The company is called African gases. So UTH as a customer has no control over availability of the product but to ensure emegency supplies are available for as in thei case.UTH has oxugen in cylinders and no such deaths were reported as the break down was at the adult wing. You dimwits

    • Is that the kind of explanation you can give to the nation you slow reason imbecile. People are dying and you are plying politics. contractor or no contractor UTH is a government institution. You always amaze me with you Chimbwi no plan approach to life. SHAMELESS FAILURES.

    • OK fine, how much money is going to that very company that is failing to do its job. If at all it is being paid. Just a point of note, with all the engineers Zambia has produced, do we honestly have to outsource even Oxygen supply? This is not good. I am not bitter I’m just saying I feel bitterish that the lives of our children are subject to the conditions of some contract, and what of the water there?

    • You are a dimwit yourself because you fail to make the difference between oxygen which we all need to breath and oxugen which your PF thugs have provided UTH in cylinders. What is oxugen anyway;can the PF government leaders use it to sustain their life in power?

    • Ibu, you must be a very bitter man. Tell me. How many people die each day in your so fine and holy American hospitals? Death is inevitable. You too will come to pass be it in an American hospital or UTH. You will surely die. MYSRIP

    • which children are dying? Do you have facts? dont say things out of frustration. Be truth. The same Lucify you are calling is actually in full control of you

    • Mwana Chipolopolo. Please, keep these opinions to yourself my guy you are embarrassing the name of Chipolopolo. Some if not most of the deaths at the UTH are very preventable and are exacerbated by the low number of staff and their poor morale. That does not mean we should ignore the loss of life or accept it as normal, that just makes us as uncivilized as cavemen. Wait till your child dies of a misdiagnosis or undelivered service, you’ll be the loudest crying foul.

    • Why should we ignore HH when you have found it very hard to ignore him yourself?? Unfortunately for you, everything he said at that rally was very true and we agree with him, you included unless you were born after September 2011. Just own up.

  6. LET US HAVE RESPECT FOR GOVERNMENT STATEMENTS!!

HON. SAKEN HAS ONLY RESPONDED TO STATEMENTS MADE BY HH WHICH DO NOT CONTAIN TRUTH.

  7. Sakeni, please do not expect people to ignore HH because you yourselves as PF leadership and the rank and file membership have failed to ignore him. You are attempting to convince people to ignore him when you have failed, this is a double standard on your part, Sakeni.
HH has been consistently throwing hard facts at you and, on the other hand, the psychology of pain and suffering has created the sense of awareness for Zambians and replaced the sense of empty promises created by the PF regime before the elections. You are fuelling the cycle crime and poverty in Zambia while you continue to sing useless songs of development and democracy.
Wash your empty shells and feel them with meaningful development and family values for the citizenery.

  8. Sakeni what do you have to say concerning the statements from the UTH Managing Director and your colleague Dr Kasonde the Health Minister? Why are you contradicting them? You’re more interested in having a goal at HH than facing the facts. Typical Sata….nist!

  9. No wonder we are in such a mess, how does the whole of a Govt minister say that what goes on at UTH is “normal”? The place is in a state and not fit for purpose and yet a minister thinks all is normal.

    • What is it that Sata and his goons have done to deserve praise? Bad governance, corruption, nepotism , tribalism, mealie meal shortages, disappearences, arrests , political persecution and economic mismanagement are the order of the day with these Sata…nists!

  10. LT, YOUR CENSORING, MODERATING IS GETTING OUT HAND. SO NOW YOU ONLY ALLOW ONE COMMENT PER STORY. TELL US IF YOU DONT WANT US TO COMMENT.

  11. i dont think insulting anybody changes the problems that we are heading to…we are Zambian for Christ’s sake..why should one person without facts concrete enough state that no such thing has happened. it is true people die everyday but have you asked your selves why the very ministers you defend do not take their chidren to uth.. my friend dont be fooled by the mere statement made all in the name of making government look good… why it is that one man can without restriction promise a large some of money to players of a nation and fail to adhere to the plait of the many unprevildged zambian in either education (bc’s), lack of proper sanitation at uth be it water, electricity, oxygen name it…anyway all am saying is that we all ought to be critical thinkers and analyze these issues
