Transparency International Zambia has warned that it will consider organizing street protests to press for the removal of former President Rupiah Banda’s immunity.

In a news statement released, TIZ Executive Director Goodwell Lungu said the organisation will use all available options including street demonstrations to press Parliament to lift Mr. Banda’s immunity.

Mr. Lungu explained that Parliament should lift Mr. Banda’s immunity in the forthcoming session in order to give the former President an opportunity to clear his name.

“As TIZ, we are aware of the strong view that in order to satisfy the requirements of Mr. Banda’s lawyers and his own interest, an opportunity should be availed to the former head of state by lifting his immunity during the forthcoming session of the National Assembly,” he said.

He said TIZ and other stakeholders consistently advised the Banda administration to be more accountable on the use of public funds and resources but the advice was not heeded to.

Mr. Lungu said the mounting call for the lifting of Mr. Banda’s immunity does not come as a surprise to his organisation.

  1. Mr. Lungu, which mounting preasure. For your own information, this one you will not manage to convince parliament to lift his immunit. You are just wasting your time. Oposition will never vote for this, mark my words

    • Goodwell is BADWELL- hopeless chaps. When there is clear violations of human rights by Saicomata, muli myaaaa. To hell with you!!

    • Max – you fail to relaize that the opposition is surely becoming a minority in Parliament – what with all the bye-elections in favour of PF. Just today UPND expelled their MP for accepting a job – opposition digging their own graves

    • BE ANALYTICAL BA observer. WE KNOW HOW THE CORRUPT JUDGE ARRIVED AT THE JUDGEMENT AGAINST NCHITO. AS FOR KABIMBA & GBM THE ACC IS TRYING ITS BEST TO COME UP WITH A CHARGE AGAINST THEM. UP TO NOW THEY HAVE NO EVIDENCE. BUT FOR RB, HE IS HIDING BEHIND IMMUNITY.

    • Iwe chisenga what are you talking? RB is hiding behind his immunity? Fine but what about your current leaders, they are all hiding behind the president! The fact is I don’t want them to lead me cos I know they don’t have what it take, especially Kabimba who wasn’t voted for by a single Zambian! Nchito and that clown hold the Zambian Justice system at ransom and you want to defend them? if you want protests please let it be about the current state of affairs, such as high commodity prices, fertilizer deliveries, a commission of enquiry on why Zambia failed to qualify from the group stages at the AFCON, anything else would be a better waste of time than this crap.

  2. Y are u being used by M’membe Goodwel. U seem not to have independent views abt issues. Is RB’s immunity the priority? Y are u not protesting against the ACC for letting Kabimba and GBM Scot free of corruption? Y Mr. Lungu are u showing your stupidity in the publicly?

  3. All you need to do TIZ is to go to State House to request Sata to present whatever evidence you have against RB to Parliament. Based on the veracity of your accusations the august house will tjen act accordingly! So please Go and protest at STATE HOUSE!

  4. I DONT NO WHY IAM EVEN COMMENTING ON THIS TOOTHLESS BULLDOG CALED TIZ.
IF TIZ’s CHAPS ARE NORMAL, LET THEM START WITH WINTER MAIZE KABIMBA, OTHERWISE YOU ARE *****S ALL OF U, 1,2,3,4…..

    • who are *****s, you mean we are *****s? All we are saying is that TIZ has no moral authority to ask parliament to lift RB imunit. Who will even follow them to the streets. I dont just understand the ideals of this organisation any more.

  5. Ndipo a Lungu ndimwe galu ikulu ngako. To hell with your rubbish, why are you quiet on Kabimba and group? Atase malabishi iwe ka Lungu

  6. This is one thing that shocks me about zambia and zambians, even the so called educated one, yes striping RB of his immunity and investigating him is a good thing. But people,, people apply the law equally to all those with corrution allegations, At the moment sata has immuned kabimba and GBM for anything wrong they did or wil do. wow!,,everything about this PF government is either wrong or miss placed,,,
    >looked zambians may have lost to RB..apply the law investigate him and lets get that money back
    > Please apply that law let zambians get back their monies from nchito and mmembe
    > apply that law lets investigate kabimba and GBM
    >look zambians ´ve lost k44bn to BY because of PF being careless and excited,
    > and look at all these expensive bye elections created by desperate thugs…

  7. you may think people like lungu who have been to unza will change their thinking .l was wrong people change with their belly.please ba lungu you have good intention but start with past newspaper, kabimba and gbm.then we will listen to your advice and maybe help your protest

  8. hey,u idio****ts mmd blogas just wet and see.who is banda.u think HE mr. sata will be carried away by those 3 *****s in south africa, not at all.we are now free from cadres.meanwell tukamona airport baka bonfwa idio***ts

  9. i cannot take goodwell serious especially have known him all his life at UNZA.A time waster indeed..i wonder how intelligent people at TIZ can accept to be led by a dull chap like goodwell.

  10. Mr Lungu, let me break it down for you. It plain clear in black and white. You want to take out RB’s immunity? That is simple, Ask a PF MP to sponor the bill or even better, ask Mr Sata to go and address Parliament and urge them to lift the immunity. Once that is done, the next step will be for MPs to vote. If your camp get the two-thirds majority, you win, RB’s immunity is off. Does that help you now?

Stop wasting time PF sponsored organise protests because we know the Police will never organise anybody to protest against GBM or Kabimba. Spare us the time and go to parliament to get the immunity lifted.

And I wish you well in that endeavour

By the way stop relying on donor funds , get a real job for once

    • I totally agree with you these people PF are time wasters.

They have never spent a single second to sit down and scratch their heads on solving Zambia’s problems.

Their are all spokes persons competing for the cold love and affection of the cobra.

All they do is distract us from real issues affecting the Nation through the various Toilet Papers and PF TV.

    • I think you left out the “need” to articulate the substantive offences on which they intend to rely upon. Not just the Headline stories from the Post or those of Sata’s outbursts. A lot more substance is required for that!

  11. SATA WANTS TO PUNISH RB BECAUSE OF THE CONFERENCE IN JO’BURG.
OUR PRESIDENT IS VERY CHILDISH AND PETTY FOR A HEAD OD STATE.
THIS IS POLITICS JUST FIGHT SQUARELY BY DELIVERING NOT OVERLOADING THE LIKES OF ACC, DEC AND COURTS LIKE A SPOILT BRAT . GROW UP OR DIE, WORK OR RESIGN.

    • @concernedcitizen….if Sata is pnishing or will punish RB because the conference in jo´burg… then thats called chicken thinking, americans say chicken s.h.it!

  12. We need to applaud patriotic organisations such as TIZ. RB’s immunity whether Mumba or HH hold conferences in joburg with Armstar-dumb will be lifted. The is no opposition to talk about who will manage to oppose this, even Mumba and HH will be dissapointed if they are bunking on this.

  13. wat name is he going to clear when there re no formal allegations against him save for what mmenmbe cretaed in his little fantasy world of saints like michael this michael that

  14. @ concernedcitizen

    MY GOVERNMENT IS DELIVERING.

3 GOVERNMENTS HAVE ALREADY GONE BY –
-NO NEW DISTRICTS- NO NEW PROVINCES
    -NO DUAL CARRIAGE WAYS
    – NO NOTHING EXCEPT PERSONAL REAL ESTATES OF FLATS, HOUSES ETC FOR PRESIDENTS OFF SPRINGS.

RB’S SONS WERE EVEN FLYING CHARTERED PLANES.

WHAT ELSE DO YOU WANT US TO DELIVER – WELFARE FOR ALL?

WATCH OUT – ITS COMING BUT LET ME CLEANUP FIRST.

    • @ kabimba ,you don’t borrow money without a plan, the 750 billion is just laying in some bank accumulating dust. how has the creation of districts brought about development. our economy/budget hasn’t grown so whats the point of creating more district, this move has just created administrative problems and its a waste on tax payers money.go on the ground and see if these infrastructure to accommodate all these new govt offices. Sata is just creating DC job opportunities for his relatives.
you cant develop in 90 days, his touched every where and everything but there is no tangible results except by elections.

  15. Oh please,Can PF police rush to arrest that Badwell guy for promoting anarchy! Police these days dont issue permits for such hello! lol

  16. Let us just put a law to say when a sitting President vacates office, the following day his immunity goes.

This will save us time….. and shut these useless NGO’s.

First for the immunity to be removed, tell us what RB did!!!!

  17. IF TIZ IS SPEARHEADING THAT THEN LET THEM ALSO HELP US PROTEST AGAINST OUR NON PERFORMING MPs. THIS AFTERNOON I WAS IN CHINGOLA ALA PIPO CHINGOLA HAS BEEN OVERLOOKED BY THE GOVT. I STILL WONDER IF THE CURRENT MP WILL RETAIN HIS SEAT.

    • My bru I was in Kitwe Mufulira and Chingola recently. I cant understand why we have goverments with decaying towns like these

    • We warned them in chingola.the wanted the man of action.no they have him.some of them do not want even to talk about satana.let them learn a lession next time vote with your brains

    • Has anone been to Kaunda sqr, Chawama, John Howard, I don’t know about John Laing but these place have no drainage, or half decent roads. No matter how much you pursue RB this won’t fix itself. Let us protest agains these Municipal and City councils that collect reveues from markets but fix lights and paint roads in Kabulonga. Buseko market in LSK is not a good sight, not to mention Soweto and Kamwala… Let us protest that! Oh yeah there is the Fertilizer issue, or did we suddenly stop getting hungry now that we have a cobra head?I don’t think so…

  18. TIZ for what? You have failed miserably to influence good governance in Zambia. Stop wasting our time. For your info, there is no way you can compare RB’s qualities with your Sata’s heinous record throughout his existence on this earth.

  19. Lungu just shutup lungu! u are just a PF mouth piece. dont forget that ur bosses are busy making blunders and abusing state funds, very soon it will be them. im also reliably informed that u are a very self centered, greedy and coruupt man who at one time organised bandits to break into ur offices and steal money. ur moral fibre is very loose mwana, so it is unethical for u to continue advertsiing ur arrogancy and dullness in the public domain. if i were u, i wuld use all my energies and available means to advise this non performing government to fufill its campain promises and to creat more jobs for us the unemployed majority. ur schemes are so very cheap for an average zambian…

  20. ZAMBIA IS A CHRISTIAN NATION.
THE BIBLE ENCOURAGES US TO FORGIVE ONE ANOTHER.
    GBM HAS BEEN FORGIVEN
    KABIMBA FORGIVEN
    GIVEN LUBINDA ALSO FORGIVEN
    MNEMBE FORGIVEN
    KAPOKO FORGIVEN
    DORA FORGIVEN
    EX-CHUNGU

    HOW ABOUT BWEZI?

  21. instead of sata making noise through various mouth pieces who are just exposing their ignorance and that of their boss let him follow the proper channels if he wants RB to attend kangaroo commissions and courts.
So as to make everyone whose doubted Sata’s allergy to corruption let him arrest his prodigal son Kabimba and GBM.
let him arrest the so called MMD that he claimed made Zambia smell of corruption.
otherwise will conclude his been healed of his allergy to corruption.

  22. This is a brilliant idea, people must indeed be given an opportunity to claer their names. Asking parliament to remove his immunity will also be used as a yardstick to see if we have genuine leaders who are here to serve the people an not their selfish
ineterests. Any genuine leader whose there for the people of Zambia should not have a problem voting for such a motion unless otherwise. So I see this as an opportunity to also see whose really genuine

    • they would not vote for the mtion especially with the likes of winter and mutembo walking the street of lusaka with money corruptly obtained fro GRZ. Forget it start with mmembe and group first

    • It looks like Zambians do not wish to maintain the immunity our Constituion provides for the President of Zambia for actions and decision taken while in office. If this is correct let us just repeal the article from the Constitution so that a President can be sued left right and centre. We are just too petty as a people. This issue can not be about RB clearing his name. No body has tabulated any crimes that RB has committed. Do you really have to violate an important safeguard in the Constitution just because Fredy Mmembe hates somebody. How petty can a nation become especially for people like Goodwel Lungu who are supposed to only talk about matters on which they have substantial facts.

  23. Zambians are no longer interested in investigations. We wasted so much time and money investigating Chiluba. Now we want good roads, good hospitals, good education system. Can TIZ please organise protests about these instead?

  24. organise something for the current regime first then we will support you. as far i am concerned you are just after donor aid. You nothing better to do.

  25. a lungu mweo mwatisebsanya mweo nkalani chabi olo bwelelani chabe ku lundazi life ngati yamivuta mu lsk mwe…ma labbish ata

  26. Goodwell Lungu has a point. But he’s the wrong man to bring it on. This is because when it come to RB, he seems to hate him passionately for some reason . He as a result loses objectivity. I watched him talk about RB on Mobi TV one time, he was quite emotional. I think RB immunity will be lifted, but Goodwell and TIZ are not the right candidates for this kind of call, they ve a personal agenda, a vendetta.

  27. Sorry ba TIZ, we are too hungry to to go street protesting against RB, first, taking him to Court wont yield any fruit, it is a share waste of Tax payers money, eg ba FTJs cases. Secondly, refer to first reason. Thank you.

  28. *****s..why can’t you organise street protests over the POA..?don’t be misled..RB will come out clean..atase..nyandule iwe..
