THE Zambia Railway Limited (ZRL) has floated a tender to invite bidder to supply materials and machinery for the company to commence rehabilitation of railway infrastructure.

This follows the disbursement of US$120 million by Government to the company to help revamp the operations of the company that was at the verge of collapse.

According to the advertisement published in Sunday Times of Zambia, ZRL invited eligible bidders to float tenders to supply the materials, track equipment and tools.

The tender was floated on February 12, 2013 and would close on March 5, 2013 before 14:30 hours.

“The bids would be open at the Zambia Railways offices in Kabwe in the presence of the bidders representative who would choose to attend at 14:45 hours , on March 5, 2013,” the advertisement states.

Among the items to be supplied include railway sleepers, machinery, track equipment, utility vehicles and other tools needed for the effective operation of the company in service delivery.

Recently ZRL chief executive officer Clive Chirwa announced that the company besides rehabilitating the old infrastructure would introduce fast trains to operate on the south-north route.

Professor Chirwa said apart from reconstruction of the rail track, ZRL would build another railway line alongside the existing one from Chingola to Livingstone.

He said ZRL would ensure that the railway system promoted national development and ensure people travelled safely for work between towns.

About 100 to 150 people would be employed during the rehabilitation period of three years and about 980km of the railway line from Chingola to Livingstone would be rehabilitated in three years.

    • you are one of those fools in this country i just wished the ground could open and just swallow you all..you are only alive because killing you is a jailable offence

    • Right man, it Chirwa the only productive manager in Zambia? Publicity is even more than campaign, its daily. Chirwa’s stories are more than Sata’s 8000 road project.

  1. we need big and modern High school, those, matero boys, st Marks, st Mary’s. Mpelembe DK r aging, we need a proper international standard University,,,,,,,,

    • We need those yes but what is wrong with having a modern rail system Mr Bryson?I don’t think you can make it to those universities you are talking about goes your exhibited intelligence/knowledge leaves much to be desired.

    • Please dont mix up issues.Education has its own budget and infrastructure development its own budget.Your comment is not appropriate and misplaced on the issue of rehabilitating Zambia railways.

  2. Bryson,
You are a big fool. They do it privately and you will say they are doing it undergound. Be objective. Publicity is one way of flowing info and curbbing under methods that allow corruption and selective tendering.
People like you belong to the 6th century.

  3. Only a fool will criticize such and ambitious program. With the high rates of road accident, I think chirwa is on the right track. Go Chirwa go. You have our. Support

  4. THE FLOATATION OF THE TENDERS IS A SMOKE SCREEN.COMPANIES WILL BE CREATED SPECIFICALLY TO SYPHONE MONEY.THE PROJECT WILL STALL SOONER THAN LATER DUE TO LACK OF FUNDS.

    • Are you the one providing funds or do you i ntend to form a company for the sole purpose of syphoning funds?Be positive iwe…….Why are you in the habit of wishing ill to the nation some of us love?Let Chirwa do his work and you die with your negativity

    • This negative mentality is what has made Zambia to be where it is. How can you think like that? Let the Professor do his work. All of you guys wishing Clive Chirwa will be very disappointed. This man is results driven, watch this space. I’m pretty sure for you to come up with such comments, it’s something that has crossed your mind. Keep your negativity to yourself. You are a total failure.

    • You know what, if that’s what you’re thinking then jump on the wagon and see if you will get a share of that money by forming such companies…. You are soo negative dude, it’s shocking 🙁

  5. ”About 100 to 150 people would be employed during the rehabilitation period of three years and about 980km of the railway line from Chingola to Livingstone would be rehabilitated in three years. ”

Please verify the numbers, otherwise 100 to 150 is no where nea a drop in the ocean!!!

    • You are right man.I think the numbers are wrong because in the previous articles concerning rehabiltation of Zambia railways LT said that 10,000 jobs will be created. It cant be 100!!Editor please proof read your articles before publishing them!!!

    • Ba namaini, natasha, we must stop this PHD syndrome that belong to insecure people who can’t think beyond the box. It takes dreamers to change their destiny and generation and i think Prof Chirwa is such one dreamer. While he is not perfect, he will count on our support to make his dreams come true and correct what could be mistakes along the way. Be innovative Bryson!!!!

  6. @4&5 note: ‘we may not agree on everything’ Obama. but there is need to respect othr’s view, ur reaction to other school of thought exposes ur moral and proffesionalism, dont call other c*nts, b*llyend, d*ckhead,f*ols,P*ssy,t*at or ,,,,, its not worth. Publicity on paper isnt advertising for tender.

    • Wrong Maloza. Your way usually inhibits knowledge transfer. You need to continue maintaining the infrastructure with our own people & build our own competency.

    • Walasa Maloza,

Rehabilitation will only succeed on Turnkey Projects. Like others have commented, the whole exercice seems to receive more publicity than what is actually on paper or blue print if they have any. Many bwana’s in the government have supply companies, before we know it, ZR would be flooded with second hand and probably obsolete machines salvaged from the chinese foundry! Am disappointed.

  7. UPND Maggots .. What are you going to appreciate about PF..YOU want everythng ,anything to be done your own way..easy .. u’l choke with envy.. the Government is on the verge of resusitating the Rail system, its on da ground Rehabilitating Major/minor Roads, building New versities, Stadia, 60 health posts, Rehabilitating Schools, employing civil servants…do most of you know where Vubwi is? Well they are constructing a Tar Road from Feni to vubwi ,the contractor is on site..

  8. Yes market yourself and deliver so that when u are in active politics we can see how it goes and mayb vote for u. No yap yap without any action.

  9. From the comments given above, i now under why Zambia is behind. Too much space has been given to retards for them to comment. They do not know the difference between good and bad. All they know is to type and type and that is all.
    Seleniko Professor abombe.
But it is never too late to get back to school and learn a bit more of some fundamental concepts in life, you retards.

  10. Be warned. Innocent Chimfutumba is a charlatan and a planted mole called Zimbwi. Like a deranged vulture he uses other aliases to prey on people’s character. He is all over the Internet sniffing out stories and writing gibberish about people and issues he hardly understands. Google his name and you’ll see what I mean. I have compiled his texts in both the “LT and ZWD. At times he wears the hat of a skunk, spraying his terrible malodorous smell. He claims to be learned. Read all his comments (How I wish I could display them). He’s a moron who writes in colloquial English—semi-literate style. Learned bloggers write well even in haste. His writing is best described by one blogger: “so many words with no sense.” His punctuation is terrible and typos aplenty.

    • Two weeks is enough. We simply want to make it difficult for none PF members to take part in the tender process. As a PF member I was made away of this tender back in December last year . I handed in my bid on 16 January 2013. That tender advert is just a formality!

  11. Excellent piece of work by LT. This is the news which you should be published by LT so that we can take part in economic activities and write cheques our own.
Stories of the opposition and PF alike do not bring food on the table. It is not a question of democracy, good governance and transparency only but food on the table.
Next, please publicise more job adverts, tenders and other economic activities which concern and empower an ordinary citizen. This will compel the government to equally advertise jobs as well contrary to the current wave of appointments, which casts a narrower instead of a wider net.

when it comes to centern issues to build our nation.

  16. Some of the comments on this blogg are really really so retarded!!…a turn key company can act as both a supplier and a designer or project manager.I know some charlatans are busy writing off Chirwa which condemnation are find shocking and a childish at this stage.Let the man do what he can do,even if he fails, one of us Zambians should be able to expand on his scope and execute the project to it’s progressive end.
