Republican President Michael Sata has challenged United Party for National Development (UPND) president Hakainde Hichilema to explain to the Commonwealth the source of his wealth when they visit Zambia.
Speaking this morning at State House the during the swearing-in ceremony of Deputy Ministers and Diplomats, the president said that the invitation of the Commonwealth by the opposition to probe his government’s alleged human rights violations will be an opportunity for opposition UPND leaders Hakainde Hichilema to explain to the Commonwealth the source of his wealth.
The president has had issues with the source of wealth of the UPND leader. Last year during another swearing in ceromony at State House, President Sata said that he was shocked by revelations that opposition leader Mr Hichilema may be worth as much as $72 million.
“You have worked for a long time but you are not as rich as some politicians. Surprisingly in Zambia, some politicians are richer than workers in formal employment, ” the president said at the time.
Meanwhile, President Michael Sata has noted that the country is blessed with abundant natural resources and yet the levels of unemployment are still high in the country.
The head of state said the country should not be facing issues of unemployment 49 years after independence.
The President was speaking at State House today when he swore in newly appointed Deputy Minister in the Office of the Vice President Davies Mwango and Deputy Minister of Transport, Works, Supply and Communications Malama Mwiimba.
Mr Sata also swore in Zambia’s Ambassador to the People’s Republic of China Eva Fundafunda and High Commission to Malaysia Miles Kaweche Banda.
He urged the two deputy ministers to ensure that the levels of unemployment in the country are reduced considering the resources that the country has.
The President also urged the newly sworn in Ambassador and the High Commissioner to be wary of investors that are coming into the country for their personal gains.
He disclosed that most of the investors that are coming into the country are interested in the copper that the country depends on economically.
Mr Sata also appealed to Mr Banda and Ms Fundafunda to go and sell Zambia abroad.
Those who witnessed the swearing in ceremony include Home Affairs Minister Edgar Lungu, Information and Broadcasting Services Minister Kennedy Sakeni and Lusaka Province Minister Freedom Sikazwe.

What has the petition for the Commonwealth to probe human rights abuses in relation to the opposition got to do with HH’s source of wealth? Thats a separate issue for which, if there is evidence of any offences committed in the acquisition of the said wealth, HH should be arrested. The President so far has never told us why he calls HH a thief. Can the President give us evidence of what he has stolen? If he is a thief, why is he not in prison? Here are some of the sources of his wealth: his academic and professional qualifications, commercial farming, commercial cattle raising, buying of shares, investments in various sectors of the econmy such as tourism, leasing, property etc. What next? Guilty of being a hardworker? Mr President, the Commonwealth will find HH to be progressive to the nation as he has created employment for the youths, provides goods and services to the people, and above all helps in poverty alleviation. HH will be praised! Wealth creation is what we need in Zambia. Think twice before you submit your papers to the Commonweal.

What Sata said about HH’s wealth is laughable. In what capacity does HH show his wealth to the Commonwealth? Is he obliged? Sata is a very petty person and not fit to be president of Zambia. There are more serious issues he needs to deal with as president of this country other than engaging in petty squables with the opposition. He must understand that the opposition will not go anywhere; they are here to stay because they are part of the governance system. The problem we have is that those in power think they should have the monopoly of being heard. Unfortunately, things don’t work like that. Not everyone can agree with the government. Sata stop being jealousy and govern the country for once. People are hungry in this country and Sata is busy wasting resources on trivialities. Shame!

I’m not Bemba but I voted for Sata. Urban is multi-tribe. Just wanted to correct and encourage u as u campaign for HH to be inclusive. Most of us like HH but his people do not come out well. We want someone who can rule or Zambians
No HH. has no Q. to answer about where he got his wealth. The answer can be given by anyone who has sense and capacity to realize that richness comes about working hard and of course having brains which are creative.
It does not make any sense to question a fellow Zambian who is wealth, so long he did not steal that money from the nation. Do not be jealous, jealous is a root of poverty! Encouraging each other to find source of income is a way forward to development. Do not waste your time pointing fingers on each other. instead the people of Zambia would like leaders who are there to discuss issues concerning aviation of poverty in the country. What is the people of Zambia gaining, through hearing where HH s source of income has originated. GROW UP AS A LEADER AND PUT YOUR EFFORT IN DEV.
