Sinazongwe United Party for National Development (UPND) area Member of Parliament Richwell Siamunene has urged opposition MPs to work with Government in order to take development to their areas.

Mr Siamunene who is Commerce, Trade and Industry Deputy Minister urged opposition MPs to break the political syndrome of merely trying to oppose activities by government.

Mr Siuamunene said opposition MPs can only take meaningful development in their areas if they work closely with Government.

He told journalists in Sinazongwe over the weekend that time for mere politicking is long gone, saying this is time for people to work together to defeat social challenges such as poverty, unemployment and disease.

The Sinazongwe MP said he took the sacrifice to put his future in the opposition UPND at risk by accepting to work with Government for the benefit of the people in his area.

He said there is need for the opposition to change their mindset and work closely with Government for the betterment of the citizenry.

Mr Siamunene said he is ready to be expelled from his party for the sake of bringing development to the people of Sinazongwe.

The Sinazongwe legislator said his decision to accept to work with Government was done in the interest of taking development to his area.

Mr Siamunene said people that are privileged to be in leadership positions should serve the interest of the people they lead above their interests.

He said he took the sacrifice to face expulsion from his party for the sake of the people so that they too can benefit from Government projects that will be initiated in the area.

Mr Siamunene said there is also need for politicians to respect the leadership which he said has been instituted by God, saying no leadership can exist unless it is sanctioned by God.

He said it was the duty of every individual in the country regardless of their political affiliations to respect the leadership that be.

Mr Siamunene further thanked Government for embarking on the rehabilitation of the Bottom road and bridges in Southern Province.

He said the rehabilitation of the Bottom road project once completed will open up exploration of many minerals that Sinazongwe district is endowed with.

    • I can only truly believe that the opposition are serious if its MPS boycott the heft salaries and other emoluments they receive from govt.

Let them sacrifice for once instead of insulting and biting the fingers that feed them.

Responsible opposition does not mean opposing everything that govt does no matter how well intentioned.

    • Next one to join Government will be Mweetwa Cornelius. The young man has never known what it means to be a worker.

    • It’s not about being in ruling party, It’s Govt of the day’s political will. Public resources are not for a political party in Govt. We have seen so many areas that have been supporting ruling parties since Independence but they are not a match to opposition led areas. Siamunene is Simply greedy, want to serve his belly period.

    • Why not appointing Independent MPs if the appointments are in good faith. Please no matter what you do WE WANT OUR SALARY ANNUAL INCREMENT FROM PF,NO WAGE FREEZE WILL BE TAKEN LIGHTLY.

  1. What do these fools take Zambians for? Doesn’t this fool know that MPs whether in opposition or ruling party are part of govt. Wanting more money and power that come with a cabinet position is nothing but self serving. Why not wait for your UPND term end and then stand under PF for you to work with government going by your myopic view of what it means to work with govt. Didn’t Sata fire the MPs from PF that joined the ruling MMD government when he was in opposition. Zambian politicians, grow up! Where are tired of these childishly selfish politicians without moral backbone. This nation has wasted too much money and time, and blood on petty issues that having nothing to do with development and progress.

  2. Opposition MPs are already part of Government. Each Constituency has to have a portion of development fund, irrespective of political affiliation by the area MP. It’s only that the politicians of today are very corrupt, and do not mean well to the Zambian people, that’s why a sitting president would punish the people of a constituency that has an MP from opposition by with-holding funds for that constituency or otherwise. So Siamunene you sound genuine with your conviction, but you are also myopic by thinking that it is only when you are in the ruling party that you can take development to your area. For your own information, many areas that voted for SATA and PF but still have not seen any development. Sata and Kabimba just want to use you my younger brother.

  3. Siamunene please do not drag the name of God into whatever you are doing, you may just be inviting a curse. with all your misdeeds of swindling clients and womanizing, I do not think you are a man of God. please reflect on this friendly advice.

  4. What development can Ukwa bring to any area be it opposition or otherwise? When he was in opposition he himself admitted that the pf had failed to run the local councils that they controlled. In fact they were supposed to produce a report on why they had failed lamentably. That report must have gone to the same place as the recommendations from the very expensive commissions of enquiry.

  5. Its sad to hear an MP belabour development can only come in their constituencies if they join the ruling party. This demonstrates shallow thinking of such MPs and do not understand the role of governemnt and its leadership. Here is the test, how much development has come to Msanzala constituency with col.Lungu, the first PF MP in Eastern province who defected to PF? Next is Masumba (NIPA cert. cheat) what type of development has been brought to Shang’ombo or N/W province apart from development initiated by MMD in N/W province? PF will never develop other areas apart from their own. These MPs have no principles at all. Come next elections they will have difficulties to explain themselves.

  6. I know that you are in a harry to please the source of your income. I would like to remind you that it is not the opposition that should try to work with your Government, but government should stop harassing the opposition and invite them to work hand in hand. At the moment, your statement is watery. Try again.

  7. he’s such a dull Mp..whop says Mps can only develop their areas when they are in govt..?dalu Lazaro..hahah..even in opposition you can dull boy..styopeti..

  8. I have nothing against the President NOMINATING opposition MPs. But there is need to consult their party. Then parliament should ratify and confirm them to their positions. This should be in the constintution. That way there not be bye elections and people will not die. make your comment.

  9. LELO….LELO, LELO…LELO, LELO….LELO, LELO….LELO, LELO…LELO, LELO….LELO, LELO….LELO, LELO…LELO, LELO….LELO,LELO….LELO, LELO…LELO, LELO….LELO, LELO….LELO, LELO…LELO, LELO….LELO……..

    MUNZI WAPYA WA UPND.
UPND WILL BE PUNISHED B Y THE PEOPLE OF LIVINGSTONE TOMORROW FOR BEING SO ARROGANT. THEY WILL BE WALLOPED BY PF. AND MORE SUCH BYE ELECTIONS ARE COMING THE WAY OF PF.

  10. Its sad to learn that working with the government is accepting jobs from the government.
Just allowing a budget to pass, is working with the government.

    • @ s. I THINK WORKING WITH THE GOVERNMENT MEANS A LOT. WHEN PEOPLE CHOOSE AN MP THEY EXPECT THEIR MP TO BRING ABOUT DEVELOPMENT IN THEIR CONSTITUENCY. THEY WANT TO SEE GOOD ROADS, GOOD DRAINAGE. GOOD SCHOOLS, GOOD HEALTH FACILITIES AND MARKET PLACES ETC. NOW IF THESE THINGS ARE NOT SEEN THEN THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THAT MP. MPS THEMSELVES PROMISE THAT WHEN YOU VOTE FOR THEM THEY WILL ADDRESS THESE ISSUES. BUT ONCE THEY GET THE SEAT, THEY FAIL TO DELIVER AND BLAME THE GOVERNMENT. AN MP MUST BE ABLE TO MOBILISE RESOURCES FROM THE GOVERNMENT, FROM NGOs AND WELL-WISHERS AND DONOR AGENCIES OR EVEN MOBILISE PEOPLE FROM HIS CONSTITUENCY TO DEVELOP THE CONSTITUENCY.
      (1) WHY CHOOSE AN MP WHO CANNOT BRING DEVELOPMENT.
      (2) IF DEVELOPMENT ONLY COMES FROM THE GOVERNMENT THEN OPPOSITION MPs ARE DOOMED.

  11. The reasoning of this MP is very low if not reasoning at all. It is the duty of every govt in power to take development to all areas in the country. The MP should inform and remind the govt what ought to be done in his/her area. Let the MP ask govt to take farming input to the area so that they stop eating grass (they ate grass in 2001). With a bumper harvest, the govt will make good roads to pick maize, they will put clinics for the people to continue producing and educate children to have more knowledge. MP build a house in your area. The same people will deny you when they will have food. Who prides in chiholehole. Think above your hungry people. Even without joining PF food would have been taken because Guy Scot is above your primitive thinking.

  12. Anyway, I understand that PF government have no choice but to play this game with HH! These ministers will now be explaining PF policies and programs to their constituencies rather than opposing government at every corner. This is a strategy to reasonably neutralize UPND so that PF can communicate their programs in UPND strongholds. Every government has a development and political agenda and the 2 move hand in hand. At this pace PF will continue beyond 2016. Watch this space!

  13. Don’t anybody preach to me about the expenses of by-elections! It is very expensive to have a government, any form of government, but it is even more expensive to have anarchy!

  14. Lelo lelo boma ni boma i can foresee a down fall of mr hh politically mc at work ‘kaya’ time will tell lets wait and see the direction upnd will take after all mp are taken on by pf. anyway goodlucky hh

  15. Yes working with the government is ok. Siamunene you are a brave man. HH will remain with no members by the end of the year. How can a small boy try to wrestle with a giant in politics (SATA). If his peer Rupiah Banda was tossed like a paper, what about the weightless HH and Nevers Mumba. Bane muleipima. Sata tewakwangalila ga watosola akafumo.
