President Michael Sata has cautioned the new diplomats accredited to Zambia to refrain from going into provinces and asking opposition political parties about governance issues.

President Sata told the diplomats this morning that the new diplomats must visit his office or any other government ministry and ask about matters of governance because government institutions were ready to avail the information.

“Please don’t go in provinces and ask the opposition about governance if you want to know about governance. Come to my office or go to all the ministries they will let you know. You know under your terms of reference, you are very free and you have access to all of us,” he said.

Mr. Sata said he will not allow diplomats to go round provinces inquiring about governance issues adding that were the economy was slow you don’t expect to find good governance.

Meanwhile, Mr Sata has called on foreign diplomats accredited to Zambia to explore all areas in which their countries can invest other than in the mining sector.

President Sata told the diplomats that Zambia was endowed with plenty of natural resources hence the need to explore diverse areas of investment in the country.

Mr. Sata assured the envoys representing various countries that Zambia has abundant areas of investment in they can choose to invest so that the ordinary local people can benefit.

He said this at State House today when he received letters of credence from 14 ambassadors and High Commissioners representing various countries.

The President cited South Africa as one of the countries that has greatly invested in Zambia.

“What I appeal to you including African diplomats is that there is more to invest in Zambia. You can invest with only five people and you will find local people benefiting. When you are as diplomats, bring here what is lacking in Zambian and attract Zambians to come to your countries,” he said

He said his office, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and all other ministries were very open to diplomats to consult on issues of investment in the country.

Mr. Sata further implored the new diplomats to organize business delegations from their respective country to visit Zambia and meet the Zambian business community in bid to strengthen trade bilateral relationships.

The diplomats that presented credentials to President Sata today are from Cuba, Ireland, Kenya, South Africa, Democratic People’s Republic of Korea and Hungary, Bangladesh, New Zealand, Israel and Ethiopia.

The rest are Hellenic Republic of Greece, Kingdom of Belgium, Cyprus and Canada.

  1. Can`t agree more. One shouldn’t be in China,Cuba or North Korea to know that it is disrespect of the country`s sovereignty to do such a thing.

    • @ masala.. this man when he was in the opposition he was going around all embassies even where he was unwelcome. what has changed now?

    • Ndobo remember masala is a troll who thinks he knows but he doesn’t . Dull kid for real who rushes for comments without reading articles. Moronic kid

    • @Ndobo you have a point there, even though two wrongs doesn`t make anything right.Sata was also wrong during that time..@Chanda…i have no time for your type.I like people who debate issues and not attack people on a personal level.Atleast i always qualify my points by giving reasons for my point of view unlike you.Call me what you want.I bet you have more issues than what meets the eye.Bless you.

    • @masala,,,, sata was wrong you said, and two wrongs donot make a right, YES, but two wrongs shared between two oppositing sides makes it equal, then we start afresh

    • Isn’t it governance issues on which our bilateral and multilateral relations with other countries depend? What does the President expect diplomats to discuss with Zambians thats not social or developmental? Governance affects all of these things.

    • @Ndobo 1.1, you answered Masala right. Surely, what is our President afraid of if he is a democrat? What is wrong with me asking about young Zambian Ambassador to Brazil whom I have seen signing a book of condolences for Chaves of Venezuela? Who is she? How did she get there so young? ‘Donchi Kubeba’ indeed.

      Diplomats are not confined slaves.

  2. When Sata was in opposition, he was freely mingling with the diplomats including taking a famous photo with Hilary Clinton when she visited. RB never warned or cautioned the diplomats. infact Sata seemed to have been enjoying the relationship and the support he was receiving. Why is it a wrong thing for opposition to have meetings with the diplomats now.

    • selective amnesia??/ RB famously told diplomats who raised questions on corruption to leave the country if they so wished

    • Ba Nkalanda please RB almost cut himself..he told them to pack their big bags and leave zambia, guess what happened…he packed his bags…

    • Al 2.1

Alabee was voted out of office for such arrogance. This man WE installed at Plot One is headed out come next election. We need to put these guys on a short leash.

  3. why is he stopping them from asking opposition about governace issues when he is busy getting opposition MPs in the name of working together. sata has no development agenda for this country and we wr so mistaken about him.

    • We needed that change. Unfortunately it came at a high cost. I believe we are taking notes. Three more elections, the country will have gotten rid of all recycled and spent politicians. No more KK boys!

    • what do you want to advertise in zambia? i have just checked your website and its businesses are in east Africa. we have our own daily nation here and vibrant radio stations. we don’t trust terrorists from east Africa to enter our economy. you can hang

    • Dear
I have my customers in Zambia i want to place a banner on your website
Please i need some person from there to send me the rate card.
      Please i need it Urgently.

  4. Its okey, actually ask both, becourse how would you know that you are sleeping, it takes one who is aweke to tell you. How will gorvement kno it is not doing fine it takes the oppositoin to know

  5. Sata, please keep quiet and go on a vacation somewhere in Chisali. You are an embarrassment to your own children and your lieutenants. Lately, your photos are synonimous with shame and hate. You just woke up from your humialiating experiences and yap nonsense on the basis of Zambia’s sovereignty. Oh come on, go to hell and make speeches for your kind. People like us are not measured by using a yardstick of mediocrity.

  6. Sata introduces his character to diplomats accredited to Zambia. In his address thinking is talking tough makes diplomats believe the opposition in the nation is under siege from this man. The unprotocol ettiquet ejecting individuals from such gatherings confirms Sata exhibits his totalitarian character regardless of his security and press gurus. He is a shame to Zambian values and morals. He emraced and addressed these diplomats when in opposition and today he peceives them as his enemies in his style of governance.

  7. If you want to know the truth always hear from both sides.Sata will want to make things seem rosy when they’re not and thats where you need opposition response. We always see republican response in USA and rough questioning in UK during PM’s question time so Sata please don’t make zed a one man show or dictatorship.

  8. This moron is inconsistent, yesterday he said opposition parties should allow there MPs to work with him because they are part of GRZ . PF is simply a party of brainless CNPs

  9. “Mr. Sata said he will not allow diplomats to go round provinces inquiring about governance…………”
Using what powers? He is joking right? He probably thinks those diplomats are his new Deputy Ministers for his bloated ministerial team that he is swearing in. This is what happens when you have too many of those swearing in ceremonies.

  10. Mr Sata your clownish presidency is embarrassing zambia abroad.A kenyan newspaper yesterday run an editorial lambasting your many foolish edicts.Pls stop your senseless rants and foolish directives.

  11. HE EASILY FORGETS THIS KANGAROO.WATCHDOG WATS HAPPENING WE NEED TO POST COMMENTS RIGHT NOW .YOU TELL US THE TRUTH

  12. At what point are people going to react against such lunacy?

So diplomats now do not have freedom of speech or association?

  13. The Whole world will wonder after the Beast of Revelation 13 (Papacy). This is what is happening with the election of the Pope.

  16. sata started from branch chairman, through ward, constituence, minister and finaly president.going by this,he should have proper experience.unfortunately he has proved to me that experience does not always mean something, but can be a good road to distruction.sata’s fulishness and stuupidity have distroyed the hope i had in him.

  17. Let him rub them the wrong way and he’ll see how quickly he’ll gets dislodged from his presidency. A bad trades man always looks for someone to blame or simply blames his own tools for awful workmanship. We will wait for the BBC to check their archives for his record of achievement during his time in England or perhaps they can shed some light on his much talked about career as a police officer during colonial rule in Zambia.

  18. ishilu lyaku mwando kulimonafye pa menso.Am sure theres drama in state house with Sata. The man is chipena .No clue how to rule Zambia.Zambia has been put on experiment .Ni mu lab tata.Special advisors no clue at all.The man embarrasses himself big time.

  24. Iyeee kwena Zambia yasebana. president tells diplomats to invets in erl fishing because there are too many in our rivers and they ‘re just dying. The man indeed halucinates. He hates shaven heads and chases an officer for having shaven. This is strange and we should not take it lightly. Observe him, each time he appears for either a swearing occassion or another he always points at some people or talks to himself whilst walking or as he approaches his chair. What a mad man we have in state house.

  26. “Mr. Sata said he will not allow diplomats to go round provinces inquiring about governance issues adding that were the economy was slow you don’t expect to find good governance.”

Can someone help me understand this?

  27. am just thinking “Mr. Sata said he will not allow diplomats to go round provinces inquiring about governance issues adding that were the economy was slow you don’t expect to find good governance” for sure this is true.

  28. The president is right, an ambassador represents an elected govt having bilateral relationship with another elected govt. an ambassador can only interact with opposition and not to discuss governance issues

  29. You Zambians what is the problem? No diplomat has a right to do so he or she can only do so through established govt. channels.Tell Me did Nevers Mumba went about in Canada asking about governance issue tell me which country can allow that

  30. @ Nkalanda 2, I dont know how long you have been away from Zambia. Alabi did not only shout at diplomats he dressed them down. At the airport one time he literary told them to pack and go if they were not happy about things in Zambia. GOD BLESS ZAMBIA

  31. Very undiplomatic language. He should be preaching such sermons to his cadres that he is sending out as ambassador

  32. Please, can some learned person clarify Art. 3.1.(d) and Art. 25 of Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations?

  33. In a democracy, you can ask questions about governance from anyone, any citizen, only the army cannot comment on issues of governance from opposition parties.
That said, please produce statistics from the Central Statistical Office related to jobs.

  34. Mr. President, Please don’t play The Guilty are always afraid game. Remember you in opposition talking to diplomats and even visiting Embassies. When Hillary Clinton visited Zambia she met you and RB never complained. Please don’t fail us. Hope next you don’t become like Mugabe. Be free, at ease and Lead Us.

  35. The man has forgotten that he visted and encouraged diplomats to go to Zambians and get the truth about what was happening. People who are incosistent in everything deserve no respect. Ukwa has outlived his usefulness let just sleep and rest at statehouse. He should not destroy our cherished monther Zed.

  36. The issue of bald heads: when he attacked Nevers Mumba not caring his hair but ba sakeni’s head was bald! the dictator has phobia and superstition for bald pipo.

  37. it is good statement and timely. these diplomats are not there to promote zambia, but their own interests, that is their call and mandate. current opposition offer a good edge for the diplomats to stay their interests if they cant find them with government. their mission is simply to preserve their set interests at all cost, whether at expense of zambians or not, after all they need money flowing from zambia. it is disappointing to see opposition running to these old retired diplomats whose simple report is safe interest rather than interest of the nation they are in.
