PF grabs Livingstone seat,UPND concedes

The ruling PF has won the Livingstone Central bye election.

According to final results released shortly, PF candidate Lawrence Evans polled 10,173 with UPND’s Regina Musokotwane in distant second with 7, 805 votes.

MMD’s Fred Siasuntwe received 1,579 while Greenwell Mwanangombe of UNIP was last with 67 votes.

The UPND has since conceded defeat.

In his brief message posted on its Facebook page, the UPND said the party had lost the Livingstone by-election to PF.

It said, “Mrs. Musokotwane fought a good battle. This is the election which was postponed from 28th Feb 2013 for the first time in the history of Zambia due to the environment not being conducive. Votes cast were less than 20,000 in total.”

The UPND has since thanked its members for the vigilance exhibited during the election period.

The Livingstone seat was previously held by UPND’s Reverend Howard Sekwila who ditched the party.

Next the whole Livingstone council is suspended to clear the decks for the rigging of the upcoming bye elections. This is followed by the death of Mwaliteta’s servant.     • There is really nothing to celebrate. That election should be nullified given the acts of intimidation and bribes seen on the voting day. No sane Zambian would call that election free and fair.

    The party needs to employ a political strategist, after 2yrs they will have seats in Muchinga Province.

    • The point boils down to the North and its allied tribes being open minded and accepting presidential aspirants from other regions on merit. Chiluba won because the country was crying out for change and on the “ba wesu” feelings. Mwanawasa’s first term was carried through by the archaic legal system otherwise Mazoka won that election if it weren’t for rigging. Had Mazoka become president, that would have opened the eyes of many that as a country there are other tribes that have credible leaders and as a nation, Zambia wouldn’t have been lumbered with this mediocrity we have now which was also ushered into power by tribal loyalties combined with a pack of lies.   11. I said it before that Livingstone in not like Choma, Monze or Kalomo were UPND can claim to be giants, Livingstone is a cosmopolitan place and we think using our brains. I’m glad what I said has come to pass.   21. Well I’m not PF, but I congralatulate them. My heart however goes to the families of the 2 men whose lives were lost during the process. As for UPND, hard luck. At one point all your key leaders were incarcerated and greatly intimidated but you ran a good but difficult race. Livingstone like Victoria Falls town across the border is a cosmopolitan town, so uve a cross section of the Zambian population. So to say you vr broken through SP may be quite a stretch.

This victory is fake. besides, evans got around 10,000 while musokotwane got 8,000 but the figures presented in the report are different. i would have asked UPND to get worried if the playing field was level. PF had leakage and when you have leakage, for heavens sake, dont make too much noise. my advise to PF is to work, otherwise you will have to corrupt all of us to win. without delivering, PF will have to use war and all other means to win. Second time around, youths have dealt this country another blow. poverty does fun things. most of us have money, with a corolla on the side, and i feel pity for the unemployed youths who are abused with a litlle of money, chibuku and chitenge material.

  62. Africa has come of age. Remember the Kenya experience? The louder the ICC issue was brought out the higher the regard the so-called indicted candidates got until they scooped their seats. We are no longer interested in what the so-called “International Community” has to say about our ways of doing things. We only care about being respected, and resolving our own problems within our own democratic dispensations without causing harm to those of our citizens that we have to serve.     • This mentality that this is an inhouse problem has in real scenario’s been the death of alot of people. Take for example gender based violence. The husband keeps battering the wife and the traditional attitude is, “dont report the matter. We will resolve it internally.” In the mean time the woman is being victimised and in many such cases these victims end up being killed all because no one was brave enough to report the case to higher authorities. How many times has the police been willing spectators. Mwaliteta batters Garry in full view of the police and no docket was opened until the magistrate ordered the police to do so. It’s possible Nkombo might have gone to a Tonga Doctor and have his very healthy arm plastered, and remember this was during our master ‘ the commonwealth’ visit.

    • Who has the instruments of power? Which wing from ECZ to the Police hasn’t got a presidential appointee. Dont be naive to attribute the last set of victories to popularity. If Kaponya’s were capable of self analysis and free thought and voted on issues and not “like the dog listening to his masters voice” Zambia would make progress. We have a large uneducated pool of lumpen proletariat whose capacity to think beyond the boundaries of Zambia is next to impossible. A KR10 gift is enough for that chap to sell his voting right. Mrs Musokotwane lost her seat in Katombora, but UNPD still thought she could win in Lstone? I am glad the people of Lstone voted for PF.
