Council workers in uproar over non payment of salaries since January

Share

Some Kabwe Municipal Council (KMC) employees have raised concern over their unpaid salaries describing the situation as long overdue and demotivating.

The workers have not been paid their dues since January this year and are leaving in fear of eviction from landlords as well as not being able to settle their utility bills such as ZESCO and water.

“Apparently, most of us workers are living in rented houses and therefore, you can imagine the tension that is there between us and our landlords, seeing that we have paid neither the water and electricity bills nor the rentals.”

Speaking to ZANIS in a telephone interview, Kabwe Municipal Council Public Relations Manager Annie Mumba confirmed the development to ZANIS.

Ms. Mumba further confirmed that most council workers live in rented houses but have not paid their bills and rentals for the past two months owing to the late disbursement of salaries.

Meanwhile, efforts by ZANIS to get a comment from Kabwe Town Clerk, Mbaimbai Mukomambo, proved futile as he was not in his office by press time.

  1. When will this stop ? How come we never hear MPs have not been paid. In Zambia we need politicians who can make a living outside of politics. I bet you salaries for just 3 MPs can pay the wages of Kabwe municipal council. Our leaders should be ashamed of themeselves. They only talk of development during campaign

    • Call it DBB – Development By Byes! Create a bye in your area; then we will come rushing with development projects, hereby increasing the econimic activies in that corner alone. Good luck to the people of Kabwe!

    • @KBM I just love that – DBBE, (Development By Bye Election).

The Lukulu Bye election is on hand. Today C.Kambwili has informed us that work on Mongu Stadium is starting: the constructors are moving on site!!!!!!

  2. PF are failures. They have overemployed their relatives and tribesmen. Not to mention the money that is been wasted on political bribes, bye elections and a congress of Cabinet Ministers and Deputy Ministers numbering more than half of the MPs in Parliament. Not forgetting diplomatic positions that have doubled and the many unbudgeted for Districts. This unbudgeted for lunacy will definitely erupt into an inferno around June if not earlier. This is a very incompetent government!

  3. The next thing he will do is to form a knew courtry so he can send ambassadors, as fo councils am told there too money ghost worker so no money for u till they are all gone

  4. I wonder if residents are even allowed to see the documentation on the workings of their local council anymore? There is too much witch hunts going on because transparency is as clear as a house without windows and a door! Please pay the workers or explain to them why they must continue working in violation of obligations…

  5. 49 yrs of this and some people describe this as best gov’t ever, if u think u r educations mate u have a brain serious disorder

  6. This is what means to have people in power who are egocentric, it is a pity that some people are still entertaining corrupt elements to rule them. Corruption is everywhere in the world but then we should be seen as a people ready to fight it. We need leaders who are selfless, there is still hope though it depends on you and me.

  7. That’s why I refused to be employed by the Government some years ago.Not even Zambian owned companies.Pakufola nikondo Ka salali ka K1 000 000 /KR 1000 pakugeta kupitamo nabo 4 manshi ba ceqwelako utuma K250 000 fye ngaba tontonkanya.
