Share

Zambia strikers Chris Katongo and James Chamanga enjoyed good form in China this past weekend to help lead their respective clubs to victory.

Katongo opened scores in the 17th minute for Chinese division 1 leaders Henan Jianye on Saturday who beat Shenyang Shenbei 2-0.

This was Katongo’s third goal this season for unbeaten Henan who lead on maximum 15 points from five games in their race for promotion.

And his compatriot Chamanga was also on target for fifth placed Liaoning Whowin in their 3-1 home win over seventh positioned Hangzhou on Sunday.

Chamanga was on target with the final goal in the 64th minute to score his second goal in four games played this season since joining from Dalian Shide.

In Holland, striker Jacob Mulenga played the full 90 minutes on Sunday when Utrecht were stunned 6-0 away at AZ.

And in England on Saturday, striker Emmanuel Mayuka was back in favour for the first time for the first time since February 24 for Southampton but he watched from the bench as the Saints drew 1-1 against West Ham.

In Portugal, defender Emmanuel Mbola did not make the cut for Porto’s reserves trip to Trofense where they lost 4-2 on Friday.

And in Romania on Friday, striker Fwayo Tembo played the full 90 minutes but was not on target for Astra Giurgiu who lost 2-1 away to Gaz Metan Medias.

  1. Southampton has gone 5 games unbeaten under the new Spanish manager, Emmanuel Mayuka needs to put extra time on the training pitch if he is eager to get a look-in as for Ba Chris Katongo please us for the captain’s arm band and retire him from the national team; Chinese division one is a waste of time!!

    • Its not about the league he plays in. Its about providing leadership to the team whenever required. There are a lot of players in lower leagues who are far much better than those in the elite ones. Football is one subjective ball team ball game. Remember that.

  2. The problem with our national team players is that THEY ARE NOT PLAYING. they lack regular match practise. The reason why the likes of Mbesuma are in form is becasue they have first team selection on a regular basis for their clubs. The coach should use players who get a regular place for their clubs as they will have sharpness in attach and defence. Thats whats caused Zambia problems. So for me i would rather have a player playing in lower ranked leagues as long as he features regularly than a high profile benchwarmer.

  3. Yaba ati ba captain. Playing Division 1 sure? The captain arm band should be given to Mweene in the meantime. He deserves it more

  4. Let the madalaz score for their Division one clubs there, who cares? The division league there is weaker than our own back home. Let them dare to come back en try to play for Nkana or warriors, Power na ZANACO tekwakulanda pantu bakasebana!!!! league pa Zed yalikosa!!!!

  5. I agree with NEBO football is not about the league, mind you national team players are not only limited to premier division.some of you might be young i will tell you that late “Derby Makinka”one of the best players Zambia has ever seen who perished in the Gabon air disaster played for profund warriors while the team was in division one and no one had ever taken his position despite playing in that level
