Minister of transport, communication, works and supply Christopher Yaluma has said the works that are going in the tourist capital ahead of the United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) preparations are very disappointing.

Mr Yaluma was speaking in Livingstone yesterday when he toured projects that are being done ahead of the UNWTO conference slated for August this year, he said the technocrats are failing to give concrete answers to what the status quo is, as they are just giving open ended answers about the questions.

“I am not impressed with the works that have been done, if you look at the maramba cultural village it link the people’s culture to the tourists,” he said

I am also disappointed with the road works as by now I expected that the Mosi oa Tunya road would have been done, as we do not expect the road in the state that it is by now,” he said.

Mr Yaluma said the officers that are going to contribute to the failing of the projects by not being done on time would face the full wrath of the Government.

He said the Government will not spare anyone that will cause the government to be embarrassed to the international community.

“We must provide proper structures so that the people will have a lasting impression about the country,” he said.

He said it is sad that the market has not yet been done. Mr Yaluma said there is need for the officers to quicken the works as the infrastructure plays a critical role in the development of tourism.

“We also bear in mind that we are competing with Zimbabwe,” he said.

The minister said he is impressed with the works that going on at the Harry Mwanga Nkumbula international terminus.

He noted however that when someone looks at the face value of the project, it is not convincing that the project would be completed on time.

He directed the managing to constant check on the project every weeks so that the challenges that would encountered along the way would be resolved in the quickest possible time.

  1. Do you know what others do Mr. Yaluma, if you want things to be done, look to your left ************, she will make everybody work. Its Masebo’s task, she personalized all preparations.

    • Don’t blame it on Sylvia. The big boss at state house was changing permanent secretaries and ministers like underwear and so lack of continuity was the problem. Sylvia shares some blame but the biggest culprit is Micheal at plot 1…

    • Hon Yaluma, your description of what is going on there constitutes an emergency. Can you devise ways of ensuring these works are executed to and acceptable level of quality and completed in time? If it calls for the termination of current contractors contract, please do that. I agree with you that we cannot just allow an incompetent service provider to embarrass us. The boys are busy on the other side, and mind you, they’ve better tradesmen than ours. We’ve to avoid being a Day Tourism facility where the visitors will just be passing through during the day and go back to sleep in Vic Falls – ala tukasebana!

    • The comment made by Nostradamus should not be tolerated on this forum. Lusaka times you regulate but hoe come you allowed such an insult or an assault on the women to be published. Lusaka times you are useless. This comment is an assault on women and not Masebo These are comments that perpetuate violence on women i mean rape on women.

  2. Close supervision in such works is essential. Don’t let it to them alone. They will end up gobbling funds and start asking for more over and over. Keep a close eye on them. Pronto pronto! Karamba karako.

  3. This is a fatal blow to the Kabimba camp. The president is speaking through Yaluma to get at Kabimba and the girl friend Masebo. These two guys will be fired soon

    • madam masebo said that if the UNWTO fails she would definitely resign,so people involved in the preparation of these events are looking forward to the failure of everything that would lead for masebo to resign from governmnt.

  4. I thought the Honourable Minister of Tourism had said everything was on track? When others said things were not in order she assured us that all was well; what has changed? Is one Minister realistic, and the other simply political?

  5. Engineers need to take centre stage in development projects. All we do is talk and talk while hoping a zombie from outer space will make things happen. In my opinion, so much money will be folked out on “projects” which will never meet quality standards of any sort. We all know who will benefit at the end of the day….

  6. Where is the leadership in this cabinet? Is Sata just a president for by-elections? What is the role of Guy Scott? Apart from being a ceremonial veep.
Yaluma has enough problems of his own plate to start pointing at others …do these guys ever have cabinet meetings? Maybe they should introduce sitting allowances for them on top of their hefty salaries….then they will meet frequently.

  7. engineer yaluma you should have been in living stone much ealier, as Minister of transport, communication, works and supply Christopher Yaluma you will also be held responsible if these works fail.i think you have no choice, sir, but to now to camp in living stone.less avoid failure.

  8. SATA MUST FIRST FIRE MASEBO and things will move, Sylvia Masebo is never in the country to monitor the progress in Livingstone, she is always abroad, just because she is the minister of tourism mean that she should become a tourist. If Sata was to appoint a new minister today, things will move at.

  9. 3 months left and yo baboons are pointing figures at each other…. go see whats happening on the Zimbabwe side

  10. There is no way Zambia will finish the roads, markets and the Bus station by August…. far from it, they have only done 10% of the work. I was in Victoria Fall town 2 weeks ago and it was amazing to see what the Zimbabweans have done. They have done 95% of the works and they didn’t hire any Chinese, Ndebeles and Shonas are doing all the work and they are doing a good job.

  11. The Minister is wrong. Zambia can not compete aganist Zimbabwe. Our infrusture is mediocre and that of Zim is by far superior to be compared. Surely at his age he does not know this ?

  12. Here is some statistics-PF will win LP, NP, MP, CP, EP, LP, part of CP, part of NW. I was in Mwinilunga and PF is gaining power. Now for UPND-SP, WP. Mind you these provinces will be shared with MMD. So where does UPND stands. Besides UPND has been proved to fail including their media Zambia Watchdog. UPND and MMD etc went to the commonwealth to have Zambia disloged. They have failed. The ZW reported that Zambia will not host Zone 6 games bcoz of inadequate preps. Zambia hosted. They are now praying that Zambia fails to host UNWTO. Again they will fail. UNZA hostels have been renovated and new hostels are being built. The ring roads have kicked off. The 8000km Link Zambia. By the time Link 8000 is finishing all rural pipo will side with PF. It will be hard to remove PF. Viva PF.

  13. Quite correct, Slvia Murambiwa politicized and personlized the process and now failure is written on the horizon. Yes she said she would resign if the preparations failed and Yaluma has pronounced them a failure so far. My hunch would be a path is being prepared for her to go. Yaluma’s voice doesn’t sound like his, it has overtones of the god father himself. Read my lips, you aint seen nothing yet!

  14. Type of PF goverment.Whom should we trust now?
Masebo says the work is going on well and Yaluma says No.

You have failed dear. You have failed to provide resources to the technocrates to do the works.
Shame on you.Two years still in stupor

  15. This is what happens when you transfer domestic behavior to national activity. This habit of eating chicken and drinking Coca Cola only when visitors show up is what results in this kind of embarrassment. You can only do this at domestic level – NOT at national level. We need to have a continuously high standard of life in all our areas so that preparing for visitors is not a strenuous activity. Last time I hired a small car to drive around the town I had to take it back and get a higher one because of the state of the roads… It is pathetic!

  16. I disagree 2 agree with pipo saying that zambians are lazy.I once worked underground and have come 2 apprecite the discpline that is exbitited by miners. If these pipo were lazy we cld not produce such tonnes of copper that we hear being produced everyday.Only a few zambians are lazy especialy civil servants.
Coming 2 the main story I wld like 2 say that if thoz projects fail in livingstone Masebo must resighn.

  17. Don’t worry Yaluma, your colleague next to you in glasses, already offered to resign if the conference flops, you don’t have to take it on the already overstretched workers!
