Republican President Michael Sata has cautioned State Counsels against criticizing government in the public.

President Sata said this at a swearing-in ceremony at State house this morning.

President said that criticizing the state in public does not portray a good picture to the Zambian people and the outside world at large.

He said that he will not hesitate to revoke the status of State counsel on lawyers who are in the habit of criticizing government in public.

Mr Sata stated that State Counsels are supposed to advise government and not to be critics of government.

And President Sata has called on those posted to serve in the Foreign Service to make their presence known in their respective missions of service and serve as expected.

President Sata urged them to represent and sale the country well in the respective countries they have been to serve.

Those swore-in include MMD Mangango MP Robert Chiseke as Chiefs and Traditional affairs deputy minister, Ben Phiri as Luapula province permanent secretary, Timothy Walamba as Zambia’s high commissioner to Ghana and Bridget Tembo as high commissioner to India.

Also sworn-in as State counsel are Nchima Nchito and Robert Simeza

  1. Zambia, where to now? Is this what we voted for? A president who continues acting with impunity on matters of state? Is this development? It is so painful to see these politicians mutilating our country at will while we the people sit on the sidelines and watch.

  2. EBUPUBA UBU YE….. WHERE HAS THIS HAPPENED BEFORE? IT IS WRONG INTERPRETATION OF THE TERM…..STATE COUNSEL.

  3. This is irrelevant politicking and a clear lack of vision. Zambia is still running a 20th Century kind of economy and this is largely due to low caliber leadership. It is self evident that individuals born before independence have a backward view of the world, a view that only sees oppressors and victims. Zambia will not move forward unless the US College Model of elections is adopted, I wonder why these politicians are focused on 50+1 which yields no results. We need to take power away from rural areas.

    • Ati we need to take power away from rural areas! kikikiki You are an arm chair, keyboard tapping internet critic my friend!kikikiki

    • Very true mate, sorry to say but people in the rural areas are easily conned by loud mouth politician and they never scrutinize those aspiring to lead. Even those hard headed Sata supporters know that their man was a waste of their ballot. Now look what they have put the country through.

  4. But the watchdog said even Mumba Kapumpa will be sworn in.I wonder why things have changed and who is cheating who.All the best gentlemen.Sacrifice a little for your country.

    • Maybe M. Kapumpa received wise counsel from real lawyers who may have said that being appointed SC today would be marred by controversy and me thinks he is also mature and wise unlike the ones that did not sleep wanting the day to come early so that they rush to state house.

  5. But this man is indeed a big liar and does not seem to understand himself well. When he was in the opposition how many state counsels helped him speak against MMDs impunity on matters of the constitution? What is wrong with this man kanshi? Is he really sane? Awe mwandi Zambia wachula.

  6. But the Zambian watch d-og said even Mumba Kapumpa will be sworn in.I wonder why things have changed and who is cheating who.All the best gentlemen.Sacrifice a little for your country.

    • LAZ said “NO!” to Mumba Kapumpa’s name and that is why he was not appointed. LAZ knew kapumpa had not done enough in legal circles to deserve the honour. There are others like my lawyer Willie Mubanga who deserve to be SC more than Kapumpa. Watchy Galu were therefore not wrong when they broke their story.

  7. the man is losing it, where does he get all the powers? ba Zambia nali myebele! too old to be president he needs to retire.

  8. What the president has said is right. The i*****s are supporsed to advise the government. Now why are yu nywintaling fi ZWD. Go to yo site and post yo usual stupid things. Ba Kolwe babula ifipato…Seleni tubombeko

  9. Where is the culture of insulting emanating from in this country? It so surprising that each time you open a social site, people insult authority with impunity without any recourse. I wonder what happened to the Red bricked House. It’s high time the RBH was resurrected and this nonsense curtailed. It is actually true that Dictators are made and not born. Freedom is good but when abused its really bad. Ba Shushushu mulikwi?

    • Zikolino, what is happening is a signal that the younger generation is restless. This is what happens when elders overstay their welcome. They start pulling things backwards. Whether or not there are leaders advising our Head of State, these utterances are at variance with the reality of today’s world – hence the frustration of most bloggers who know better.

    • Waba itole nga ba shushu! freedom of speech does not mean singing Christmas carols for the government all the time fool!

    • People have been insulting all along.
Now they have loud speakers to project their voices.
The age of information technology has dawned and unfortunately it’s in the PF’s time.
Even the next President will be insulted by his opponents, unless he gets voted for by 100% of the population but even that is no guarantee that some of them will loose hope once in office.
RBH can’t arrest over 2000 people spread around the world,it’s just not worth it.

This is the new era of politics and the price of freedom of speech.

    • If you followed what happened in Egypt you would not be writing such no sense….

      A revolution starts with insults….

Did you see what happened to KK before he was kicked out? He was insulted

    • What you are suggesting is very F00LISH. Why do you want to take Zambia to the primitive UNIP days a when Zambians had no voice and treated like slaves. Do you want your shushushu to end up in the Hague? Dream on man. The days of dictatorship are long gone.

  10. So, the Zambian Watchdog has a better intelligence system than the govt? The reported on these appointment long before some of the appointees even got their letters!

  11. …unless it is constructive criticism. This is really going backwards, ‘you do not say anything bad about my/the government’. I think there is a need for these chaps to understand that you are only criticised if you are doing a bad job. And in most cases, the criticism is constructive and the government should learn to embrace it. This is sad. Is this what we voted for?

  12. Power should never be give uneducated people, especially if they are more than 70 years old. This man does not act like a president.

    Please God save us.

    • The majority of those who voted for pf where the youths. Even if Sata had been 100 years old at the time of the elections, the naive youths would still have voted for him. Now they realise that they were taken for fools. How naive.

  13. The man who taught us to criticize everything even when it is good is today saying no to criticism. Something is wrong with this man.

  14. Zambians can I just beg those of you will be in the country next voting time: PLEASE PLEASE consider generational voting next time around. Let Freedom Fighters be Provincial Ministers or something away from the kitchen. This state of affairs is not auguring well with the 21st Century! It is like we are in a Village with medieval statutes!

  15. How does the president manage to create these jobs is giving out like this, are not all positions filled up?

    • SC is just conferred on a lawyer of high standing. a lawyer that has integrity. it is applied for and scrutiny is done by relevant bodies. it is not a job

  16. I m thinking something really bad has taken over the reasoning of this president. I mean, the guy wasn’t this bad, was he? Of late, his reasoning is really something else – people with no integrity at all appointed SC, to add salt to injury, not even following the constitutionally prescribed procedure. I thought the close to 2 yrs he has been in power he would have learnt one or 2 things!!

    • He has always been this way but the so-called “youth” decided he was worth the gamble. Now we all have to live with the consequences!

  17. One term is more than enough for this man vote wisely in the next elections.Meanwhile you have to keep up with the current old guys with more coming.Watch this space.

  18. Gee is it possible for someone to continue losing it 2 years down the line! My word Robert Simeza and Nchito as state counsels! is it April fools day or what?

  19. D … Dictator Dictatorship.
So … we are expected to just go along with everything, however misguided?

Last time I checked, we were a democracy and a free nation that observes human rights; including the right to free speech. If the Party and Its Government is wrong, shouldn’t we say something?

    It is our country too!

    • Awakening of “silent majority”? In Zambia? Wow, now that will at least show to the opposition direction which in my humble opinion they and the party in power do not have.

  20. @#23 Two deputy Ministers for each ministry is it true?So if we continue seeing graded road in our township or compound not yet tarred by now just know that somewhere things are wrong..This is what opposition leaders should be asking govt why roads are not yet tarred in some of the resindetial areas of Lusaka?. I usually wounder if oppositions members of parliament and there leaders are provinding the much needed checks and balances.

    • On the other hand, insulting the people intelligence, either by proxy or in person, definitely is not either leadership nor statesmanship and if not checked not just by Judiciary, but most importantly by the independent non-government bodies, it risk to become dictatorship.

  21. #28 Knowledge in some ministries there 3 deputy ministers, Isn’t it sad? why 2 or 3 deputy ministers, wasting money which can go to developmental projects. Come 2016 PF must leave office, this old man Sata is not provinding leadership people expected.

  22. This is what happens when you give power to Kim jong Sata…he feels he’s above everyone. Good job he’s reaching his sale by date otherwise he would have declared himself president for life. God is watching you.

  23. What’s the source of this article? Anyway the State is free to choose its own counsel obviously

  24. Why do such articles remain unattributed? If it is true then it is a foolish statement which belongs to the 1970’s and it should be challenged.

  25. CONSTITUTIONALLY EVERY ONE HAS ARIGHT TO EXPRESS HIM/HER SELF MORE ESPECIALLY IN THIS DEMOCRATIC WORLD WITH OUT ANY UN REASONABLE RESTRICTIONS BY THE STATE. MR PRESIDENT WE ARE NO LONGER LIVING IN THE 20th CENTURY. THE RIGHT TO EXPRESS ONES VIEWS IS INTERNATIONALLY RECOGNISED UN LESS YOU ARE SAYING THAT ZAMBIA IS ON ANOTHER PLANET. IT IS ONE OF THE MECHANISMS DESIGNED TO CHECK ON THE GOVERNMENT.

  26. Most of you blogging insults are dull and will not give a direction to Zambia.
You insulting hollow heads need to instead give the opposition a bashing so that they take a new direction to Zambia.
What are we seeing? Insults and Hate for Sata while he is consolidating for 2016.
You seem to enjoy insulting without achieving any meaningful change in the New Zambia.

    • Just enjoy while you can, your grandfather Sata thinks he’s leaving a legacy for you but we shall make sure you return every Ngwee. You call threats meaningful change? Kwena uli shilu iwe. People will insult him if he gives us reason to do so. Just because he is president does not make him more human than everyone else ala!

  27. Well done Mr President. Others are just barking like their watch mubwa, carry on sir. Mr Michael Chilufya Sata, you are the best President so far for this country. Well done again. Revoke the SC status on people appointed to counsel the government but instead chose to talk to to you through the public. What a shame on these lawyers of low status.

  28. Bo Chilufya Sata, am impressed with the way you are handling this country Zambia. If state counsels made mistakes in the past, you cannot let that mistake to continue like the way RB carried this nation. That is why we voted him out to bring you in so that you can clean the country of these corrupt minds. Most of the bloggers are choked with hate. They thought being in opposition for five years is a short time, so they have now resorted to insults. Dont pay attention to these cheap Under Performing Nonsense Dunce.

  29. I think what the President is saying in right that State counsels are not there to criticize the govt publicly but counsel the govt . Also the emphasis for the foreign diplomats to work hard in selling our country is good advise although am not comfortable with the appointment of Mr Phiri Ben coz i don’t know whether this man knows anything about politics. God bless Zambia.

  30. The PF Government has failed those of us who campaigned for it to assume power by introducing so many deputy minister positions. How can you explain the fact that now we have over six ministries with three deputy ministers? At whose cost? The poor Zambian tax payer? This is a total waste of resources. And you call yourselves a Government of the poor? We have now been forced to look at other options in terms of who is indeed for the poor. Watch this space!

  31. at least i have been consistent in my dislike of sata, since UNIP, all through MMD and now at his pinnacle in State house.

    3. “….criticizing government in public.” is wrong. “…..criticizing the government in public.” is correct

Do I Qualify for the volunteer position?

  33. Twa papata Ba Kateka fintu tafili bwino ku Western Province. Ninshi tamulepela ulya mukashana Vivian Mubukwanu abe Permanent Secretary. Tapali filechitika mu province. Ba MP tukwete ba Nathaniel naba mayo ba Inonge are not true PF. They just jumped on the band wagon last minute after they saw the gravy train coming. Elyo pali uyu mudala ati Lawrence Nyambe naena is destroying the party with his antagonizing approach to issues. He wants to behave a one man executive committee. Does not want to work na committee yaba Namutulo. I hope pali uwa la belenga alandeko na ba SATA ba pele ulya mwanakashi Vivian Mubukwanu. Ewa twele chipani mu 2008 single handedly. People were shaken and convinced with what she did and that’s how PF managed to pick some seats there. Twa papata please 2016 ili…

  34. Chama true. Walasa mwana. President should change PS in western and give the lozi girl to make the party grow as we approach 2016 otherwise ni disaster.

  35. Vivian Mubukwanu is not a lady but male. I know the young man. He is a better person than his elder brother the Minister. He is more of a people person. I do agree with Chama and Mwansa, the President should give the young man to be PS in the province and he will definitely see a change. When he first came to preach PF we thought he was made but he made an impact even one of the dailies had him as a headline. The lozi people would even have real contact with the government. Maybe only problem is he loves women and is single. But capacity to deliver the fellow is what the PF need. so Bo Sata please consider this young man you sent to western province to campaign for you

  36. I know the guy he is just smart and that’s why people are jealous of him. That’s why women love him. True he can be good PS for us in the western end of zambia

  37. musankwa is for sure a good organizer. I remember when he first came to upnd during the pact he showed the lozi group how things are done and it was sad we lost him after the pact broke. I support him for PS

  38. can a divorced person be allowed to be in that high office. anyway I know he is better than Emmanuel mwamba and ben phiri. at least ba sata would have a true ps in him

  39. where is this guy. i guess all who know him were expecting him to be appointed after elections. seems people know him even that he loves women and is divorced. Good for PS western province
