10 seriously injured in Mini bus head on collision with truck

Share

Ten people have been seriously injured when a Lusaka bound mini bus collided head on early today with an oncoming truck at Demu area on the Choma-Monze highway.

Pemba District Commissioner Reginald Mugoba who confirmed the accident to ZANIS in Choma this morning said 10 of the eighteen passengers on board the mini bus sustained serious injuries.

Mr Mugoba said four others including the driver of the truck were also injured in the accident that occurred around 01.30 hours.

There were three female passengers travelling on the truck and, all the injured were rushed and admitted to Choma general hospital.

According to Mr Mugoba, preliminary investigations by Pemba police have revealed that the mini-bus was being driven by an unlicensed conductor who was allowed to drive while the driver slept.

He said police have established that the unlicensed driver of the mini bus lost control after the oncoming truck flashed full beam.

Mr Mugoba said Pemba police had a tough time organising transport to rush the injured to hospital because the station does not have transport.

The District Commissioner has appealed to the Ministry of Home Affairs to seriously consider allocating transport to Pemba police.

    • what needs to be revised is the law on causing death by dangerous driving. We send armed robbers to jail for life, difilers for many years and rapist too. Has anyone done the statistics on how many deaths we have from these dangerous drivers as compared to the vises i mention above. If people knew that dangerous driving carried a stiff penalty, i can assure you they would be a change in these figures, caution would prevail.
I will always go back to the chibombo victims, my learned friend did mention to me that the perpetrator cannot go in for more than three years and could only be fined very little money. Aha, am sure if today we take a survey half the current drivers on the road have done a small stunt in jail and back on the road. We need sanity on the roads.

  1. The boys were trying to put more money in the pocket at the expense of other innocent people lives! Arrest the id!ots for a good long time

  2. arrest the chap. but even most of these truck drivers have very bad manners of flashing full beam or not turning off the full beam.

    • @kamba
why do we have alarming numbers of road accident deaths in the nation since your grandfather and PF took government?? are feeding that human blood to the ilomba in state house? thats why you are happy and dont care when people die?

    • i do agree with you some people are dumb. when are we going to stop blaming the government even for things that are our direct responsibilities? Use your time to maybe say a prayer for the accident victims. No matter which government is in power people will always complain because we want a government that is going to give us jobs when we refused to go to school, put money in our pockets when we do not want to work.
When we have tragedies like death we want to blame the government, grow up and look around you, no one cares. We have a crisis on our roads perhaps you comments should be to implore the government to have dual carriage ways on all our major roads not that it would stop the accidents, but we would have sanity, people still die on the kitwe-ndola dual carriage way.
