A boycott by Bus drivers in Lusaka this morning left several commuters stranded.

The protest by bus drivers is against what they say is the arbitrary impounding of their buses and prosecution of the drivers in the courts of law for contravening.

A check around the city found commuters stranded at bus stations amid the cold weather which has gripped the capital city today.

The Commuters Rights Association of Zambia said it is fully supports the move by the Police to impound buses that contravene traffic laws.

Speaking to QFM in an interview, Commuters Rights Association of Zambia president Aaron Kamuti said the bus drivers are contributing to the traffic congestion especially the in town due to contravening.

Mr. Kamuti said most of the bus drivers that want to protest against the law are the illegal bus drivers who do not even meet the Road Transport and Safety Agency(RATSA) requirements such as the public service vehicle licenses, fitness among others and road taxes.

He said the action by the police to impound and prosecute bus drivers found wanting is commendable, noting that it will help bring sanity on the roads and reduce accidents.

Mr. Kamuti noted that the law is very clear and bus drivers found wanting should not complain and has further urged genuine operators to support the law as this is meant to work to their benefit.

He has further appealed to commuters to also observe the law under the Road Transport Act of 2002 which says a commuter is liable to pay a fine if found getting on a bus at undesignated areas.

No surprise! you were born from a useles bemba prostitute and a nigeria drug trafficker and left on that street to grow like a plant,,, thats why you are so bitter,, you have never been loved before

    • What happened with you Zebige, your reasoning is too shallow in last 3 months. Change the type on alcohol, or start drinking if you quit. You sound retarded like Masebo-Kabimba son. Are you still in PF? The boat docked, its time to disembark!!

    • @Nostradamus that description suits you actually, coz i don`t think a sane man can go on a personal attack on a person you don`t even know.It beats my rationality. It looks like some of you guys are taking internet anonymity to another level. You won`t lose anything by debating in a mature manner bro.You are good but sometimes that firewall protection you are hiding under makes you to lose it.Smh

    • @nostradamus
kekekekekekekekekeek ati `change the type of alcohol you are on or ….`
      aaachew! you crapped my ribssss!!!!

  1. PF PF ba Chimbwi, muli bachabechabe….. now even your own strong hold Kaponya’s (call-boys) run out employment. Where will you take them, war in Sudan is on hold now. Maybe they should join ZNS.

    • Nubian princess sweetheart, Zed is not an easy place to bike to work in for health and safety and many other reasons, no cycle lanes , muddy or dusty path ways all over and no proper facilities at work to freshen up when you get there. I used to know a chick who would bike into work, trust me she wasn’t the most pleasant sight i have ever seen each time she walked in.

  2. It is a shame how most Zambians want to promote lawlessness. Those drivers should just follow the law without silly excuses. Most of us hate the way they treat us; squeezing us on sits meant for few people and having our clothes torn by their ugly buses! We deserve better life people! Learn from other countries and lets move on away from mediocre transport systems! The traffic police officers should also avoid being corrupt. Maybe that is why the drivers are grieved!

  3. It is fine for our people to be stranded alive, than to be driven to death by these minibus drunken drivers.

  4. Zambians where are we heading too? What do we want in our country? What I have observed is that we want to live Zambia without Law.Comments which we are posing on are not helping . When this PF of yours campaigning did they say we you vote them in power every will free there will be not even a single law will followed?
We are just excited about Democracy we dont understand it fully and we have just misinterpreted it . Democracy does not mean no law to follow. Also Politician you are killing yourself don’t forget that what you are condemning today tomorrow you will find them in your shoes. Politician they are not thinking properly they just think of ways to be to Government. RTS they are following rule and order which are there. Drivers take back your buses to the designated bust station.

  5. If only the gvt could introduce public transport, this could be avoided. Most,if not all, of these drivers are fontinies, they can’t differentiate wrong from right as long as they do what suits them.

  6. plz some driver shld be protestng evryda. if u ve ben 2 twn 2da, thn u mst ve noticed tht ther z order to th max.

  7. The problem with Zambia is we are used to live like wild animals. These Bus drivers a wreckless. They park in the roads as if they are the only users. The other iidott drivers insulted me just for asking him to move so that I can pass. The situation is also not helped by our very corrupt traffic police who are always getting bribes in the end it is animal farm. I cannot even mention the very HH boy who sees votes in every situation. He complains about SIM registration, sides with bus drivers, sides with street vendors and whenever there is the law he cries Police State. There is no country in the world were people live like wild animals without guide lines. Even the so called greatest Democracies the USA you cannot contravein traffic rules or buy a SIM card without any IDs.

  8. Yes jail these misbehaving mini bus drivers. They always drive as if they are drunk…atase bane. And you have these useless people supporting the lawlessness of drivers, marrubish. Which has no law on the roads?

Peace and Prosperity to Mother Zambia.

    • YOU BEMBA MONKEY WHAT HAS HH GOT TO DO WITH YOUR UNPOPULARITY.YOU ARE JUST BITTER BECAUSE YOU KNOW DEEP DOWN YOUR BITTER,ROTTEN AND JEALOUS
HEART THAT HH IS BETTER THAN YOUR CHIMBWI.JUST ADMIT YOUR TRIBAL PARTY HAS LAMENTABLY FAILED.NOW YOU HAVE TO FIND BLAME FOR EVERY ICHISUSHI YOU SMELL.

  9. HH what is wrong with you? Please zambian DON’T even Blame this PF of yours watch out with HH. Whatever happens even genuine things where Law is applicable he condemns. What kind of government is he going to run if by chance being voted into power? mean there will be no law and guidelines on how people should live. The way he is sourcing votes that is not the way he is just digging his grave because after being voted into power he will change completely. He is the one instigating violence so that he proves to international community that PF has no respect to human rights. our country Tanzania there is maturity in politics.

    • So it is HH who ordered the zns officers open fire on innocent unarmed civilians? Is it HH the one arresting the kabovas for traffic offences?Who promised more money in the pocket, more jobs universities every every Km.Yes you guessed right-Chimbwi no plan.Just own because you have failed. You thought running a country is like running a kantemba on lumumba road.
Your hatred for HH will tempt you tu babembas to assassinate him.BE WARNED THAT WILL BE THE BEGINNING OF THE END OF ONE ZAMBIA ONE NATION.

  10. I support the bus drivers , 1.the government has not put in place a transport network that’s theirs, 2. The economy is very bad , unstable and these bus drivers have to maximize every space 3.the impounding is just filling police men’s pockets
So government build or buy your own buses because these bus drivers can also
    Screw you up big time

  11. NDOBO YOU DONT MEAN WELL FOR THIS COUNTRY.WHY IS THAT GOOD PEOPLE DIE AND MONKEYS LIKE YOU REMAIN IN THE TREES?

  12. Ndobo, electric train? Not possible if they will rely on Zesco. Trains will be stuck between journeys, people will suffocate, women will give birth. Nope, not an electric train unless Zesco has a complete overhaul.

  13. Lusaka drivers are the worst in the all world. That protest will be short lived as they (drivers) need the money for their survival. Take them to court they are very foolish they think they are above the law.

  14. I shudder at the thought that lawlessness is getting support from certain quarters of society, where is Zambia heading to? The one who tries to bring order is condemned or hounded out of office

  15. Bakapala u ll see for making stand in the cold, I ll pay u 2pin the whole week for your action, u ll see
