THE Ndola City Council (NCC) will take legal action against Zambeef PLC following the laboratory detection of Aromatic Aldehyde in Zambeef products ceased last month.

NCC public relations manager Roy Kuseka who confirmed in a statement in Ndola yesterday said some of the affected products were ceased from Ndola outlets hence its decision to take legal action against the company .

Mr Kuseka said the samples were subsequently submitted for scientific analysis to the Food and Drug Laboratory in Lusaka.

“The samples were ceased from Zambeef Shoprite outlet in Ndola. The affected products in which Aldehyde was detected are packed ox-kidney, packed beef hooves and packed liver beef.”

“The results received last week confirmed the presence in the sampled products of the mentioned chemical which is not part of the permissible food preservatives in Zambia under the Food and Drug Act Cap 303 and the Public Health Act Cap 295,” he said.

He said the local authority’s action would serve as a warning to individual traders and corporate entities to conduct their businesses in conformity with the laws of Zambia.

Choma Municipal Council last month Zambeef to court following the detection of the said chemical in some of the meat products.

  1. Thank you Ndola City Council. This is a warning to all companies that are not complying with law of the land

    • This bastard was arrogant at first. Zambeef where even going into compounds with a song saying ‘bufi’ yet they knew the truth. Now, they should be fined heavily and the whole top management should be taken to court and charged with criminal offense. They need to test jail for their greed and insensitivity particularly to the innocent Zambian consumer whom they deliberately subjected to embalming chemicals. Look at the cancer cases in this country, all-over-sudden, they have increased tremendously in the last few years and it is such things that are coming into our bodies that are causing them. Grogan should eat the embalmed beef as part of his punishment

  2. NCC should go ahead with this move so we can understand the issue of embalming. For the product mentioned is not used for embalming. Formalin is totally different from Aromatic Aldehyde, in case you have a grade twelve let him/her explain to you the difference since you have trouble using the internet for researching.

    • Well said zed. The level of ignorance by some of these posts is unbelievable!
The government seem to be toying with Zambeef and I think the company has realised that in this country, you cannot go against the company hence the silence from them.
It doesn’t take a genius to know that aromatic aldehydes are harmless and that formaldehyde cannot be consumed coz firstly it has a very bad smell!
Fellow Zambians, let’s open our eyes and read between the lines instead of just posting absurd things here.

  3. One comprehensive legal suit would be more appropriate. That would require any injured person to operate through a selected representative. It is like a plane crash. If each passenger’s next of kin was to suit individually, then legal procedings would consume too many resources. That would overwhelm the Justice system. In addition to that, arbitration might be more appropriate than court litigation. It is One Zambia, One Nation through and through.

    • while reading about zambeef `Doctor`,, just tapping your shoulder, the results for the bye election are out,, your comprehensive comment will do just fine on the bye elections

  5. NCC will be well advised to be cautious in their suit or they risk embarrassment. Aromatic aldehyde is a non-toxic substance used as flavoring or preservative in foodstuffs including chocolate and ice cream. Aromatic aldehyde as the name suggests has a nice appealing and seductive aroma which is why it is also used in the manufacturing of perfumes. Formaldehyde, which is being confused with aromatic aldehyde, is what is used in embalming dead bodies and has such a nasty and obnoxious scent that it can’t conceivably be used in preserving meat without it being detected.

  6. Zambeef must be stopped from selling any meat products period! By the way democracy is at work. The opo especially are celebrating their lungs out. Congrates to all!

  7. “He said the local authority’s action would serve as a warning to individual traders and corporate entities to conduct their businesses in conformity with the laws of Zambia.” I was going to be ashamed if it was I making this statement because it is an indication to you the responsible departments that you have been sleeping in your offices wasting tax payers money. It is instead a wake up call for you the authorities.Extend your examination to the beverages as well especiaaly products like red bull and various soft drinks.

  8. What hypocrisy! Ndola City Council should then sue all the illigal liquor traders in the markets, street vendours, un-licensed butcheries, noisy bars and all the illigalities that are typical in any council area

  9. Yes, this is good news. Sue these Zamfimbombo so that they learn a lesson they will never forget. Our mothers, sisters and wives are suffering from cervical cancer because of this Zambeef. Sue them for being so arrogant to the Zambian people.

Peace and Prosperity to Mother Zambia.

  10. This is great news. Both fronts of this little tiff should know that we as the people win here. So bloggers debate smartly.

  11. OH HOW GULLIBLE AND INANE ….YOU STAND THERE WITNESSING THE BURNING OF ALDEHYDE CONTAMINATED ZAMBEEF UNOBLIVIOUS OF THE DANGER OF ALDEHYDE FUMES FROM THE BURNING MEAT…AND YOU CONGRATULATE ZAMBEEF FOR THAT?
