Hard Man Malitoli slams ZAA Moscow coach scandal

Share

Ex-Zambia international Modorn Malitoli has added his voice over the ZAA coach scandal after national athletics trainer Felix Mbuye was axed from the travelling party to the just-ended 2013 World Championships in Moscow.

Mbuye dumped from the trip that saw ZAA president Elias Mpondela and executive committee member Davison Mungambata to travel to Moscow with an third unnamed person.

“I might be a footballer but this is a national issue,” Malitoli said.

“How can a team travel to an international tournament without a coach?

“It is like says Herve Renard should not travel with zambia to the World Cup qualifier against Ghana in Kumasi next month.”

Malitoli described the entire episode as scandalous.
“People will not take ZAA seriously in they continue to act like this. Infact that association needs a serious shakeup in national interest,” he said.

“I think the leadership has become very comfortable and these are the results.”

Meanwhile, Mpondela has been summoned by sports deputy minister Stephen Masumba to explain why Mbuye remained behind at the championship where Zambia’s three athletes left empty handed.

  1. Greed is the reason why, the committee members have no business travelling with the team. its the coach and his assitants privillage to travel with the team.

    • Chi mpondela should just be jailed. ever since i was a boy,i have been hearing mpondela this and that, apa nomba am a grown man with children and am still hearing names like mpondela here and there. ninshi teti balekelako abaice in some of these things. To hell with mpondela,he is too comfortable and actually arrongant to be in that position. let him go and retire. we dont want him. and he should not come back to zambia chi mpondela,we will shoot you. imbwa iwe!!!!

    • Ba Elias balyonaika pa ulya mwanakashi. Batamfishapo naba kashi sure! Ichalo ici mwandii. kuti wadabwa . Abaume aba..mwandi balyafya!

    • This is a PF/Ministerial problem, lets see what KAMBWILI is made off. I want to see Kabimba firing Mpondela tomorrow.
If PF want to fight corruption this is the best and worst case of the year, MPONDELA must be arrested, not ifya bena Lyato. Corruption is when humble citizens like Ba Modorn Malitoli speaks out!!

    • Unbelievable,Mpondela still president for ZAAA. This guy has been there since for donkey years and has nothing to show for his adminstration all these years. Surely they must be someone out there who can do better. Its time for change.

    • @Wane adams, muletekanya before comment, umutenge wa’ganda baukumbilwa ukutali, elyo uumfwa ifyo impundu shipona untu wikala munshi yamupundu.Ba Mpondela babafye talkertive but he is a very good understanding man,who was toucherd by the same ulelanda.stupid wikabwekeshapo ukulanda ifyo ta wishibe kwindi balikutuma?

  2. The circumstances surrounding our athletes’ failure to perform at the IAAF Championships in Russia have convinced me more of the fact that their dismal performances at such competitions have less to do with their natural talent and skill and more to do with the selfish way we have approached sports development (particularly athletics) for many years now. Those responsible for the athletics association seem to want to keep the ‘cake’ to themselves when it ought to be shared. This is symptomatic of a culture where once in a position of authority, you seek to maximise the benefits of being in that position even when they go against organisational aims and priorities. Sharing involves looking out for others and that’s not the vibe I’m getting from Elias Mpondela and others. [cont]

  3. [cont] We like to speak of how community-oriented our culture is but we seem to rapidly bin those community values when dealing with our athletes. Community sees the gifts and talents in the other and nurtures and encourages them. We’re failing at that. The irony is that when our athletes appear at such competitions, we’ll still expect them to win medals!! How does that make any sense?! And they might win medals, against all odds, but relying on those one-off star performances would be folly. We must accept that for as long we continue as we are, none of those medals will be touching Zambian soil. I want to see a robust, long-term resurgence in Zambian athletics. Let us built it around community, serving the other, not just in word but deed. [end]

  4. Pipo like mpondela shud nt b involved in such affairs coz his greedy.o his interested in is hs pockt alone.tht is y spots in zambia is a messa.hw do u leave a coach after drilling th boysmshame on u mpondela!

  5. I was shocked to see our marathon guy running wearing a plain white vest that did not indicate his country. He either wore this under protest or there was no proper attire organised by Mpondela who took his lover to Moscow on honey moon. Sad very sad.

  6. I think enough is enough. Elias and his entire executive has to go. It’s criminal to let the sport sink so low when we have a whole lot of highly trained administrators and coaches. The country will continue losing its creme’ to developed nations if this is not corrected. These people have outlived their usefulness. they all must go and whoever took the named woman to Moscow at the expense of the Chief Coach should be punished.

  7. This guy was present when I was still a toddler, up to now he is still present? Malitoli is right, a shake up is needed.

    • At one point he was ZAA president, Pheonix constructors manager and MMD something. I was still young by then. Surely he has overstayed.

  8. Elias Mpondela has over stayed in this position as ZAA president its time to replace him with somebody else

  9. It is time leaders started being judged on performance rather than on what they are perceived to have achieved in the past. This guy has been at the helm of ZAAA ever since I can remember and yet we have not produced an athlete of World standard ever since the demise of ZCCM. The “Manda Hill” fun races will not produce athletes that will be able to compete with the best in the World. Let him come out and tell us the road map for athletics in Zambia so that we can use these as performance indicators to gauge his performance.

  10. This reminds me of the training programme in Finland and Poland Outotec company ( Finnish company contracted to build KCM smelter) had set up for the newly recruited graduate engineers. Very few graduates attended the training programme with majority of the seats being filled by so called “expatriates” mostly Indians and senior management staff.

  11. Malitoli iam behind you. You don’t have to apologise for being a footballer cos our footballers have represented us at the Olympics more than once so even a kaponya knows they are athletes. This is obviously a major scandal. Since Matete weve had no medals while Botswana has been bagging gold and silver. How embarrassing! Heads should roll

  12. Bring in Samuel Matete and let that joker, a disgrace to our nation go. For how long is Elias going to be tolerated? Please let him go. He has brought alot of shame to Zambia. It is wonderfull to hear from you Malitoli.

  13. Elias Mpondela is the one messing up ZAAA, eversince Mpondela went their he disturbed things and kicked everyone around he even has Jonathan Chipalo a well trained coach to leave ZAAA. Mpondela should humble himself and give up that position because he has messed up and he does not understand the nature and principles of athletics. Like Malitoli has put it, how can athletes go for a competition without their coach but the president goes there? Mpondela is acting as a dictator in ZAAA and the earlier he leaves the better!

  14. This is bad Journalism. Why say that a Third Unknown Person. you can do better and find out the name and capacity of this person. That way you will help matters and avoid speculation.

    • .. no no.. you aren’t right. Unknown person = not official part of the delegation (outsider) Journalist did keep privacy but some bloger her know it was a woman not his wife.

  15. ZAA ARE NOT SERIOUS, SEE WHAT KENYANS HAVE DONE?? WE NEED A 5 YEAR STRATEGY TO BUILD ATHLETES IN ZAMBIA. FIRE THEM ALL WE HAVE A LOT OF ZAMBIANS THAT CAN DO A BETTER JOB. INFACT I AM STARTING MY OWN FIELD & EVENTS TEAM TO SHOW ZAMBIANS THAT WE CAN DO BETTER. WE HAVE A LOT OF YOUNG TALENTED PEOPLE IN THE CITIES & EVEN VILLAGES.

  16. Mpondela must resign. He shall resign now no time wastng!Authorities intervene Mpondela has no interest in Zambia undr Sata. His roots rembr undr Phoenix contractors?MMD used him to syphon funds to the party. He has no interest in PF.Let hm go.

  17. Summoned by Masumba another playboy what are the going to discuss send him to Kambwili otherwise with Masumba they will just compare notes

  18. The fact of the matter is that all these associations including FAZ are not serious and headed by self-serving Presidents. If ZAA president Elias Mpondela who has been there forever was truly focused he would have persuaded National Brewers to formulate a sponsorship package whereby a certain small percentage of every purchased bottle of Mosi goes to sponsoring our sportsmen training for Brazil 2016…even the State lottery could be used to sponsor our athletes. Fosters Beer did this in Australia and the National Lottery does it in the UK…and by sponsoring athletes I mean sending them for training in Ethiopia, Australia, Kenya, USA and RSA with set out targets and benchmarks for medals to win in Brazil.

  19. Please take note that all the tickets was paid for by IAAF HQ. The K100,000,000 fromthe first Lady is not for the wifeto be,Which money is talking about. The ZAAA officers are at his wife to be in Church road house number 46 next to bishop Imakando.
