Sports Minister Chishimba Kambwili slammed Chipolopolo for failing to qualify for the 2014 CHAN on Saturday.
Striker Charles Sibanda scored a lone goal as Zimbabwe trounced Zambia 1-0 in Ndola to qualify for next year’s CHAN to be held in South Africa.
In a postmatch interview, Kambwili blamed the players for Zambia’s failure.
“They performed well in front of a big foreign crowd, why should they fail to perform better in front of their fans? People have travelled from Lusaka, Livingstone, Kasama to come and watch them and you can’t give them this kind of results ,” he said.
“You cannot even blame the coach, the coach was there guiding them it is just the stupidity of the players and complacency,” Kambwili added.
The two teams drew 0-0 in the first leg tie in Harare last Sunday.
This was Zambia’s first loss at the 14 months old Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola.

The boys seemed tired…their football schedule has been very unforgiving, winning cosafa, playing in the league, travelling to Zim only for the game to be cancelled and then to France for a friendly which many people including the coach reiterated that was of the highest quality then to come back and play Zim both away and at home goodness! We were all angry about this results including Honorable Kambwili who pends his signature on every kwacha spent for our National team, So responding to this interview just after the game, Kabwili responded with anger and emotions and at least he was right and spoke his minds as we all know him. Our players where out of the game, As for the coach I don’t understand why he keeps using Bornwell Mwape and Festus Mbewe in the first lineup, honestly speaking the duo are not national team material.
You are on the nail’s head. The coach does not read matches well. We new Zimbabwe needed just a goal to confuse us and he could not plan well. As at now, we only have just about 5 players in that team. No strikers and may be just one midfielder. We have Chama (despite that of yesturday), Mtonga, Kalume, Munyau. Sorry, I can’t even trace the fith player! In all of the Cosafa tornament, I only saw one striker and that is Thalle (spelling check) of Lesotho. No one else! Zambia is big and full of talented players. Please, find strikers. Mwape and Mbewe are slower than every deffender they meet.
