The Food Reserve Agency has revealed that it has so far paid out K80 million countrywide to small scale farmers participating in the crop marketing exercise.
In a statement released by FRA Public Relations Manager Daniel Msoka, the agency said the farmers have been paid through the participating banks.
Mr Msoka has since advised farmers that the agency has fully rolled out its payment to farmers countrywide for the 2013 Crop Marketing Season.
He said farmers are encouraged to confirm their payments with FRA at either district or provincial offices in their areas of residence.
“In order to expedite the receiving of maize from farmers, the Food Reserve Agency would like to advise all farmers who are yet to supply their crop to make sure it is properly cleaned before delivery to FRA. This will ensure that receiving your crop and processing of documents for payments is not delayed,” he said.
Mr. Msoka said the FRA also wishes to guarantee that all its scales being used in the crop marketing exercise are all officially assized by the Zambia Weights and Measures Agency (ZW&MA).
“Also, please note that ZW&MA will soon be going round to guarantee the accuracy of scales in all FRA satellite depots countrywide. Please supply your maize now for early payment.”
VIVA PF
With the subsidies removed the improvement is also from the fact that farmers now have a wider choice of buyers and do not have to rely on FRA.
