President Michael Sata has arrival in Livingstone ahead of the official closing of the 2013 United Nations World Tourism Organisation General Assembly this evening in Zambia.

The arrival of the President was characterised by pomp and splendour at the Harry Mwaanga International airport.

President Sata arrived at 10:05 local time accompanied by the First Lady, Christine and his Special Assistant for Press and Public Relations, George Chellah and other senior government officials.

Vice President, Guy Scott, led Cabinet Ministers, Deputy Ministers, Permanent Secretaries and other senior government and party officials in welcoming the Head of State.

President Sata will be joined by his Zimbabwean counterpart, Robert Mugabe for the official closing for the 20th Session of the UNWTO-GA to be held at Royal Livingstone Hotel this evening.

The prestigious UNWTO GA has attracted over 147 countries and eminent delegates in tourism sector.

Zambia and Zimbabwe are jointly co-hosting this year’s prestigious 20th Session of the UNWTO General Conference from 24th-29th August in the two resort towns of Livingstone and Victoria Falls.

The UNWTO is one of the specialised United Nations Agency responsible for the promotion of responsible tourism, sustainable and universally accessible tourism.

  1. This is an important event. We need to know what Zambia has gained so far and what the future plans are. It was so gratifying to listen to the Zimbabwean Minister of Tourism who had everything into perspective. He talked about creating a Disneyland in Zimbabwe in Victorial Town. What is Zambia thinking? Which tourism investors have we impressed and are ready to help prop our tourism industry? Or will this end like another talk show where we give flowery and yet empty speeches just to impress? We need to be serious and adequately plan for such events so that development trickles down to Zambia. We must always aim for knowledge transfer. I would be very impressed if there were opportunities for Zambians to understudy advanced tourism businesses so that there is knowledge transfer. We need it

    • @ Questioner,
Hands up, this is one of the best comment i have never read in a long time! Nothing to add or take out, you have summerised the entire purpose for such projects. What are you doing in diaspora? you should be one of the local delegates heading this meeting, Zambia has really lost a possible driver towards development, you are the people Dr Msiska should be sweating to get back home , but like many others the chances are against all odds.
Once again think about getting a job home i can tell you are a treasure.

    • I understand ZEMA(Zambia Environmental Management …) has not approved the allocation of land to investors to put up a Hotel complex in the Vic Falls area that would include a state of the art 18 hole golf course. This development would create many permanent jobs as well as attract more visitors to the Vic Falls. Zimbabwe has announced its intentions to put up the Disney type investment for the same reasons of increasing the number of visitors and I am sure they ll succeed because they wont have problems with Environmental Management. Zema is probably not concerned about the environment but by how much the guy signing the certificate will get out of the deal?

  2. do zambians have anything to do? yesterday he left and you gave him a slendour farewel, today he jets in you give him another welcome…bu president busuma, abantu kulekupepa fye morning till evening

    • tufumo tulenga man. You dont do that you cant eat. Some of them thats how the work and feed their families. Nisebana wikute

  3. But we’ve not even finished commenting on “Sata leaves Livingstone for Lusaka”.
My, my, my. There’s a lot of unnecessary expenditure going on.

  4. Does Kilistina know only 1 style of clothing? Throwing a bed sheet over your shoulder is okay once, twice even 3 times. But so often? You need a stylist.

Or maybe you’re trying to achieve a ‘royal’ effect?

  5. Ba first lady only has the same dress pattern in 7 different colours…no sense of style. I will continue learning from Michelle. That’s why we don’t develop you can see it in the way A listers in Zambia dress – very monotonous.

  6. Another reason why we DON’T need a National Airline, so Mr. President what did you do in Lusaka when you flew back? Sheer waste of expensive jet fuel.

    • The zambian you are right. I sometimes wonder what breed of people we are. This conference has been applauded by prominent international figures and yet we are tearing it down locally. No shred of patriotism at all. Shove it down your throats you haters. In your faces Sata and Masebo etc have delivered. Sata is sick and when he appears in public, they shift to attacking Mama Kaseba’s beautiful attire saying Thandiwe was better dressed. Hatred kills. Mama Kaseba in less than 2 years is becoming an international icon. Let’s be proud of our own for once.

  7. Civility regulates us to comment only when it is necessary not any how and any thing lest we become KACHEPAS….. ABAMULOMO

  8. The zambia you are a real ***** ,honesty you don’t see anything wrong with the president leaving the other day only to retain the following day.how much was spent there and we are a poor nation my foot.its vegetables like you who really don’t care about this country any way god atleast is watching.

    • Your comment is right on track. It gets spoiled by the last sentence. God will not watch if you do not do anything to change the situation. You have to meet Him halfway and He will do the other half.

  9. The first lady’s dressing is very important to me…I don’t like these bed sheets as someone called them. Our president is not sick… people please don’t be too imaginative.
