Millers Association accuses Mealie meal traders of selling the product above recommended price

Share

The Millers Association of Zambia (MAZ) has accused mealie meal traders of exploiting consumers by selling the country’s stable food above the recommended retail price.

MAZ president Allan Sakala has expressed deep concern that traders have continued to sell mealie meal at high prices when the millers are still selling the product at low price.

Mr Sakala has told Qfm News in an interview that it is unfortunate that mealie meal traders have continued to exploit consumers with high prices.

He says traders should exercise morality in their dealings because millers are still selling their Mealie meal at a low cost.

Mr Sakala says the actual recommended price should be Sixty five kwacha per 25kg bag of breakfast and sixty kwacha for roller meal.

He adds that it is immoral for traders to sale Mealie Meal above the recommended retail price.

Mealie mealie in some parts of Western province is fetching as high as K90 for a 25kg bag of breakfast and K85 for roller meal.

  1. If demand supersedes supply prices go up. we have just been harvesting maize, so why are millers not supplying enough? its just lack of political foresight.

  2. HH is behind the meal price hike in Western Province. Hae has paid the traders to hike the price so that the ruling party looses popularity. We know this one!!

  3. miller association: there is nothing wrong with selling meal mealie at that price, after all it is a free economy. The government removed the subsidy.

  4. what 90 pin. more money in traders pockets. we now concerned with university closures, poor standard in education and healthy sector. Lusaka people grow there own maize. too much land laying idle.
if you grow 25 x 25 (one lima you can get 70 bags by 50 Kg) one bag per month 52 plus even have surplus.

  5. i think thus way in Africa we still behind. Good weather, rainfall, too much mogoes and masuku, lusala, mundwe, water, eating from neighbours, drinking free beers, free prostitutes, begging etc. no time to think

  6. Do people really understand what a “Manufacturer’s Recommended Selling Price” is? Let the consumers decide whether the is right price or not. If there is a shortage of mealie meal then the price is bound to increase. The law of demand and supply knows no morals.

  9. Go and buy a 50 kg bag of maize at K65, then gaisha it so that you have 2 X 25kg bags of mealie meal. The hammer meals are available every where. Use your heads and dont just cry like babes. If you do that, the traders will have no person to buy their bunga at K90 . This is free advice to you people in western province.

Peace and Prosperity to Mother Zambia.
