The Patriotic Front (PF) Executive Team for Mkushi North Constituency has refuted claims that were made by a PF Councillor regarding endorsement of Presidential Candidates for 2016.

During an interview with ZANIS, PF Mkushi North Constituency Secretary Michael Mulenga said that the PF had distanced itself from claims that were made by Chibefwe Ward PF Councillor, that were aired on ZNBC news on Sunday.

Mr. Mulenga said that Councillor Topson Kunda had acted in individual capacity when he endorsed PF Secretary General Wynter Kabimba as Presidential Candidate for 2016 General Elections.

Mr. Mulenga emphasised that the PF Executive Team in the Constituency was in full support of President Michael Sata to contest in 2016.

He charged that Mr. Kunda had expressed his choice of Candidate without consulting the Executive at both Constituency and District Level.

He accused Mr. Kunda of having released that statement to ZNBC without observing the format for Press Statements from the Ruling Party.

Mr. Mulenga said that there was need for people representing the Party in various positions to be mindful of following the rules of the Party when issuing Press releases.

He insisted that Mr. Kunda’s opinion did not reflect the PF’s choice for 2016 Presidential Candidate, adding that the Councillor had spoken for himself and not the Party.

In a related contribution, PF Mkushi North Constituency Chairperson Frank Mubanga described Mr. Kunda’s move as indiscipline.

Mr. Mubanga pointed out that the Councillor had not a spokesperson for the Party, despite having presented himself as PF Information Publicity Secretary(IPS) for Mkushi.

He said that the Councillor had jurisdiction to issues statements that pertained to his Civic role for Chibefwe Ward.

He further warned that the Party would apply appropriate actions to discipline Members who violate the Party rule and procedures.

Mr. Mubanga said that there was need for members to refrain from issuing irresponsible statements as this would bring the Party into disrepute and disunity.

On Sunday, ZNBC news aired a news statement in which Mr. Kunda expressed his support for Wynter Kabimba as PF Presidential Candidate for 2016 General Elections.

Mr. Kunda had issued the statement to the ZNBC Crew which had come to cover the Chibwela-mushi Cultural Ceremony of the Lala and Swaka people in Mkushi District.

  1. Democracy. The President has allowed people with aspirations to come out. This Councillor just expressed his democratic right of a person he wants to stand in 2016. Why castigate him? Let those with aspirations come out so that one can be chosen at the convention.
