Ghana player fails Zesco trials

Share

Ghana striker James Owusu has failed trials at FAZ Super Division leaders Zesco United.

The club revealed on Wednesday that it won’t sign the 28-year-old striker who arrived at the Ndola side on August 19.

Owusu has played in Mexico and Belgium.

“Zesco United Football club would like to announce that the Ghanaian striker who had been attending trials at the club is this week returning to his country as he has not been signed on as a professional footballer,” the club said in a statement.

The striker failed to impress the Tenant Chembo-led Zesco technical bench.

“As a club we would have liked to sign on Mr Owusu but the Tenant Chembo led technical bench has advised that we let him go and allow him to try other clubs.”

“We regret to let him go as we would have used his experience but he has been disadvantaged by his age which has seemed to slow him down as the club currently working at recruiting young footballers,” the statement added

  1. This sounds like a set up, I hope ZESCO didn’t just want to embarrass this Ghanaian player, who has played in Mexico and Belgium failing to impress at ZESCO really? or maybe ZESCO could not meet his demands.

  2. I hope that this was not revenge, in as much as it still hurts how the Ghanians treated our Chips, i wouldnt deny a brother a job, you might never now what tomorrow may bring, revenge is a seed, dont plant it if you dont want to reap it someday one way or the other.

  3. “Age has slowed him down.” What age? Ryan Giggs is still playing at top level, at nearly 40. David Beckham played until he was 36. My feelings: either the real Owusu has a twin or it is really the man himself but he’s seriously got issues with his confidence or, has got an early ‘sale by date’ at every club he’s plied his trade since.

  4. yes indeed sounds like revenge to me…I how many players attend trials with zesco, yet we never see it in the paper when they fail to make the grade?

  5. one other thing, james owusu played with Zambia’s dabwiso nkhoma in mexico, some fourteen years ago, so how come he’s still 28 years old? it is good knowledge that west African players remain productive past the age of 30…so this 28 years of age is questionable.
