    • …..all this because the presidenet was following a homo called Fred.

I’m so glad his Excellency’s eyes are now open. Thank You Jesus!

    • I first read on the ZWD before LT got it. VIVA ZWD. LT continue the good works of bringing ZWD news which is out of the reach for many poor Zambians.

      VIVA ZWD VIVA LT

    • I like the way the old man at 13 min says the Bembas shot themselves in the foot by electing Sata. Zambia needs more of such brave men.

    • What Bashilubemba said is a clear indication that the majority of the Bembas are very honest and hard working people just like any other tribe in Zambia. They are far from being tribalist as some of idi.ot blogers have alluded to. They have clearly shown that they don’t survive at the mercy of the PF leadership like some chiefs.
In all honesty every tribe has it’s misfits. It is therefore absolutely wrong to demonise one tribe for the sins of a few minions.
Going forward we should all try hard to engage in meaningful discussions devoid of tribal connotations. We should first look at the ideas some one is bringing to table and criticise them objectively without getting personal. This , I believe is the only way we shall built a peaceful, prosperous and fair Zambia for all its…

  1. Yaba it was about Sata vs Sosala?
Who need a translation…? this is big and wise, unbelievable that Zambia has so wise people.
Ba Sata should go tomorrow to Kasama and apologize.

    • Embarrassing, Sata better APOLOGIZE, this is a slap in his face. He has been told off. Worst of it all that he is Bemba himself to bring such confusion. Bembas feel Insulted with his arrogance, the man will go down badly, they don’t even need his money. You don’t play with traditional rulers, Balalowa (They can bewitch him)?? Sata has wrong advisors. It’s a shame. Ati kwaisa Umubemba, twaifwanta ichimuti Palukasa (We have a Bemba President and we have hate ourselves with a heavy log on our Foot)???? What a curse for SATA.

  2. this is good, I have really enjoyed listening to this. Pf and Nkandu luo have been denounced. Yes they should not interfere in the bemba tradition. Shame to prof Luo for trying to twist this issue to favour the pf . With all her education, we expect her to be neutral and advise the president accordingly. She is really a let down, a very comprised person. That is why people who are educated are easily bought by who lack even education. What makes us Zambian is our traditions and our culture which are so rich. Each one of us has a duty to make sure these are preserved. Thumbs up to the chiefs who categorically stated that if it is the cars or allowances that is making politicians think they can interfere in their tradition, let these be taken away. I am really humbled by their stance.

    • Good observation! But as you may know even during the third term debate Nkandu Luo,Katele Kalumba,Peter Machungwa etc were all quiet as if they were not one of the most educated in government at that time!

    • @ mambala: trust me, I could not stop laughing. They have been denounced, unbelievable. Nkandu Luo better watch out. Thanks to TECHNOLOGY, we heard it for ourselves. LT well done??? bring more of such. SATA and his Dull Ministers have been undressed. Send your Police to Bembas?? You will see how they will disappear. Know your limits Sata. This is embarrassing for a Bemba president??

    • @al

The Bashilubemba have told you very clearly that the chiefdoms were there
using succession laws existing from time immemorial and before the colonialists introduced the modern laws you refer to. What else do you want to hear? Whatever other laws you are talking about cannot apply or substitute traditional laws, or do you think Bemba royal matters, or indeed those of other tribes, are a recent invention?

  3. …umullandu wakukanapyana nimkamma iyikalamba iyo umuntu teti asokolole mulwalala kano nga ni citongo, ushacindilwa mu lutambi lwa babemba…

  4. Sata has tarnished the bemba tribe. Its good to hear the Chiefs put him in his place.I doubt he will ever win a seat in that area.

  5. In short, Micheal Sata ni citongo, ushacindilwa mu lutambi lwa babemba… Am proud of these Chiefs i wish they were my own.

  6. I hope the president and his PF govt can shove aside their arrogance and humble themselves and give respect where it’s due. Bashi luBemba are incensed and disappointed, and rightly so, with Mr. Sata and his govt. The present govt under Mr. Chilufya has been singled as the most disrespectful of all the govts in Zambia’s history, including the colonial govt. This is so sad. I am glad these custodians of our Bemba heritage have come out fearlessly and shamed the devil. In effect this govt has been told to go jump in the lake, and they don’t give a rat’s a@&! about the meager chiefs allowances.

  7. Unlike the Lozi people who talk from abroad for their perceived cause, the Bembas are not afraid to smack the all might Sata in the face within the country. They have put Sata in his place,.no wonder he has failed to comment on the appointment of sosala as the chitimukulu walubemba.

    • Not sure what u mean by bringing Lozi’s into this. This is a private (closed door) meeting that was recorded. If anything, the Lozi’s are even more brave because they voiced out in public. Just keep ur comment on the topic of discussion.

    • Lol ! Are the Litunga , the Lozi Chiefs and Indunas now speaking from abroad? Has someone made a record of the BRE private conversations while speaking from abroad? How do “Lozi people” come into the Chitumukulu succession wrangle between Sata and the Bembas? Leave us alone please! Don’t divert bloggers focus from the topic to your favourite hobby of Barotse bashing and hate mongering against Lozis!

  8. I believe this position of the Bemba chiefs to denounce Sata explains why he has been realigning himself to GBM and not Kabimba in the hope that GBM will be able to negotiate for him and bring him back into the good graces of the bemba chiefs

  9. Embarrassing for the head of state!
These men are wise in short they are saying, politics and politicians can never be involved in traditional laws and regulations, Ba Sata too much pride, someone should have advised him before prying, were was KK? atleast he should have said something, too bad an appology must follow.
But then again why is this audio made public and who authorised? i someone wants a pat on the back, African politics and really changing whistle blowing even with villagers!
On a lighter note, these men are speaking as if they are singing on top of that, this Bemba is very different from the one we speak aswell as the accents, how many Bemba languages exists?

    • @cindy
Sata pride and chitinya,,, all this mess can be quitely resolved with respect and everyone walks away with smiles
These traditional men are wise and open to dialogue with Sata,, most important the respect him as a president of zambia, so there is need for Sata to respect them back

  10. I like the part where he makes a list as follows:

    i. Under Chiluba, we had no problems
ii. Then came Mwanawasa, smooth sailing
iii. Then Rupiah, all smiles chabe
iv. Elo nomba twaleta uwakumwesu kanshi twatola umupamba. Ati we smashed our feet with a log or logs, i don’t know, am not bemba but as as someone said, we basically shot ourselves in the foot by voting PF in. If i were HH, I wud download this gem of a recording, make like a gazzilion cds and distribute them throughout Northern, Muchinga and Luapula. Would’nt that be something?

    • Bo Ndobo, we will help them remove the log mu 2016. My only worry is since bembas do not have the letter ‘H’ in their vocabulary, we need intensive training sessions for them so that they chant ‘Haleisa Haleisa’ properly mu 2016! hahaha!

    • I just love the log part. jokes aside. those words are a curse, SATA and Nkandu Luo (labelled as “ulya namayo”, to mean that woman?) should Apologize, Otherwise they have no Peace. Problem with our Leadership is the money & vehicles they giving Chiefs to think they can control them and even interfere in Traditional matters. Sad to even compare them with the white colonials who respected chiefs. what a shame.

  11. why has it taken so long to bring this issue on air.Who was recording the same incenje as far as I know imilandu ya ntambi shalubemba we don’t expect reporters to attend sometimes reporters distort the news. This is comedy we know who is doing this.

  12. Mr president don’t be distracted you have alot of work to do, also noticed that you’ve learnt to over look nonsense let ministers respond.

  13. Well outstanding from the chiefs to dress down and standup to somebody who thinks he can buy them out.

I hope when Sata is back from New York we wont hear that all Bemba Chiefs have been summoned by Police for defamation of the president.

That is what this government is good at.

  14. I think so bembas as well knows the kind of president we chosen them. Next term the president should not come from the bemba speaking people.we had bembas president Chiluba(bad),Kaunda(bad),Sata (condemned). Noon bembas Levy P.Mwanawasa(good) Ruphia(better than Sata but bad easterner).

  15. It’s unfortunate that I don’t understand a single word the chief is saying, I wish someone could translate the main points for the many of us.

    • it’s pretty heavy stuff yo. main points:
      i. You no good head of state how DARE you try impose some sumbi..t.ch we ain’t never heard of.

am afraid thats how far my bemba goes…

    • London eye, I pity you. I wont interpret for you but this should make you realise how important knowing just one Zambian language is….I am in the diaspora like you and am sure you see how not knowing a single language from your country makes you feel isolated even among fellow Zambians there. You see how Chinese, Ghanaians, Nigerians and all others switch to their languages when they meet. I do the same when I meet Malawians and Zambian, we speak bemba and Nyanja and I don’t regret ever knowing these languages. when I have kids, I will make sure they learn one of these two languages because they are the main ones and easier to learn just for them to have a sense of identity.

    • @mambala,
Thank you for your comment. One correction, my father is Zambian and I can speak his language and also my mother’s language which is Setswana. In fact when I blog on one of Botswana’s online publications I do so in Setswana and I would have loved to blog in my Zambian language in the LuasakTimes but the problem is that Zambia has too many languages.

  16. Listening to the audio reminds me of my parents and my grand parents – Ichibemba Nkonko not the one spoken by ba Kaponya!

  17. This recording was done at Mano Community Radio. Its good LT and WD have picked it for wider circulation. Those are bemdas for you CNP

  18. For those who dont understand Bemba the main points are:
    1. The Shilubembas ‘ Or those who have powers to appoint the bemba chiefs are annoyed that the president has given himself powers which he doesnt have to appoint or disappoint the paramount chief.
The entire Bembaland is annoyed- The have refused what the president has done, no one can remove mwamba without consulting them
    2. The Presiden, Chilufya sata has not told the Shilubemba the mistake that the chief has made to make him disappoint the Chief
    3. No one can talk publicly about succession its a secret (or ifyakupyana) unless one who has not been taught in traditions (Used a very bad word of Chitong – remember the Prseident said the chief did not follow procedure in sucession)
    4. The Shilubembas are the only ones with…

  19. – Translation Continued
They are surprised the PF is meddling in its affairs, No Government has done this from the colonial
    – If the president has anything to tell the Shilubembas, they are ready
PF is also meddling in the affairs of Chief Nkula – PF through Luo are also telling Nkula to go back to Chiefniship of Chikwanda, (Who is Junior to Nkula. This is unacceptable. ‘Who ever we have appointed, we cannot diappoint’
    – We refused to recognise Chief Chewe and Chimbuka NEVER (Who is being imposed by Lou)
    – If the PF Government think they can direspect the bembas because of the salaries they have given to the chiefs, the PF can go to hell, bembas can look after the chief
-The President has stopped monerary support to the acting chief as a way of removing the acting chief. This is…

  20. Continued
    – This is unaaceptable
    – The President has not gone to the funeral of the paramount chief, bembas are hurt, this has never happened
    – We are not afraid. Those we have appointed are the chief

    The other speaker
    – I am the one who came from Kola and found the bembaland, and ‘distributed’ the chiefs – there was no confusion, colonialists came they had a lot of respect, all the other presidents have respected us, no cofusion. Now our own is the one who has disappointed us – we have shoot ourselves us in our foot. We thought things would be good. Nothing good has been brought by this government in this land. No roads nothing.
We are not worried of anything, if it is their money, they can take it.
    – This woman in charge of Chief affairs, Nkandu is a big probleme, we dont…

  21. Translation Continues
    We dont need her here
Now he wants to start blaming Chief
You fellow bembas, whoever will take lies to Lou, you ill be removed from your position. If it is your money, take it, we shall manage, we cant be disrespected because of money
As far as Kanyanta Sosala is concerned, even as I am speaking, he is Mwamba
    – Let the president not be cheated, he should just concertrate on ruling the country.so that people who voted for him can be happy. If he has any question, he can come we explain things for him. Not indulging himself in our traditions

    • Well translated, man you are a server for Zambians grownup in the diaspora and can not understand bemba. The words were wise with a clear message that Sata can keep his money & vehicles. Even before Bembas used to carry and look after their chiefs. He just run short of telling the President & Luo to shove their Money & vehicles in their ********* tough words for Sata. Man has no choice but to humble himself and apologize. It’s part of Leadership and good leaders accept mistakes. Test for Sata. lets wait and see. Chellah better tell your boss Coz you read our blogs.

  22. Haluza Hagwa u realy re itchng fr populace & now gone fogery fr audio record!Uli ne ciwa sure ure posessed Hakahivotela Heka.Demons re realy controling yr absolute desire!U can sacrifice anythng fr yr much neede lust fr power. Its sad fr ths young satanist.Itchingg fr power u will colapse if it misses u.

  23. HH, this is the time to take advantage of the situation and win the Mwine Lubemba and his chiefs over. Sata has been disowned!

  24. cheap propaganda, im now finaly in the boat.u want to disorganise the bemba speaking people and couse confusion in my mother’s land. i think i made a mistake to vote for hh(homo habilies) sory sata, sory pf.am yours now.

  25. Shibukeni uyo munthu ayeba babululu bakwe kaneni Sata.Nomba ngaimwe musumine ena?Awe teti shibukeni tekumfwila uyo awe!Bufi moneni efyo bena ba vota kumyabo.Bonse bavotela ena.Ngaimwe?Tewa kwesha ukupela ama vote awe.Rember he chased his members not tongas tht UNDP is fr tongas.Thts how Chisanga,Lubinda,Sikota & Munkombwe left him and today he wants votes frm others. No dont shibukeni teti acimfye bonse uko.

  26. mwe baku luapula, mwebaku muchinga namweba ku northen province iseni twikatane ngama tako not ngama mbazi pantu bakulatusunaula. natwikatane ngamatako.mubwato e mwesu

  27. @ Observer what do you do, you have impressed me by 1. Thinking of other people and 2. by the way you have done the translation.

  28. The message is crystal clear. The Banshilubemba have told off Sata that if he thinks money (Chiefs allowances) are a ticket to interfere in the traditional way Chiefs are nominated, then to hell with the PF-GRZ allowances.

The Banshilubemba have stated that the British colonial Govt, KK’s Govt, Chiluba’s Govt, Mwanawasa’s Govt and RB Govt exhibited wisdom and respect for traditional Chiefs. But they are injured by insult coming from a so called Bemba Republican President.

Persons who must take this message seriously: are President Sata, Guy Scott, Prof. Nkandu Luo, GBM, Fred Mmembe and Wynter Kabimba. Any British Ministers would resign their position if so castigated by the British Queen.

This sounds the bad end for the PF regime in Northern and Muchinga provinces. God Hear Us.

  29. Some of us who are old enough know that all past presidents interfered with the chiefs. Under KK Chitimukulu was a party cadre imposed on the Bembas. Where were Bashilubemba when Nkula was imprisoned under Chilubas govt? Praising the colonial gov. when they are the ones who disorganised the Kingdoms. Are these words wise and why publicize such a sensitive matter fit for private discussion. Bashilubemba must be careful about being used by selfish politicians.

    • iwe @Jill some-of-us iwe, if you feel you are wiser than tradition which has been passed on from generation to generation for centuries, if you feel you are wiser than the sum total of all the Chiefs in Ulubemba who gathered to express their experiences and concerns, then why don’t you put your points across why you feel tradition and chiefs should be subordinate to President Sata. Tell us why Sata should hire and fire Chiefs and trample on tradition.

    • I think you have missed the point. The main issue here is that Bashi Lubemba feel let down by one of their own. He even sent Inspector General Dr. Malama to go and hound Senior chief Nkula from the palace! Yes,there might have been a few issues with the previous regimes but those were ressolved amicably. Sata wants only his will to prevail and I am sure there is more to come from him on this matter – watch this space.

  30. This is good. The Chiefs have spoken very well. Listening to them is moving, and rekindles hope. Hope that all is not lost after all. That order is not lost. I love the syntax in their speeches to emphasize a point. The log analogy is brilliant. Translating that into English doesn’t capture the the full meaning though I have to say well done @Observer and all those who have taken time to translate and share this piece of History.

  31. I have never known any dull professors like this one Nkandu. Gazetting a chief simply means giving recognition of a chief by the gazetting institution as a part. But this is not what makes you a chief. I hate to say such are the members of cabinet making PF so unpopular. She is fighting for her own family, and must be denounce, if not arrested for corrupt maneuvers as minister. What a mess!

  32. Tushilubemba imwe mwanya Ingoshe ileisa next week. Ka HH nakamipela utuma kwacha elyo mwakwata utumaka ati fyototo fyototo! Natulenwafye

  33. I salute the bemba chiefs for speaking out on MCS ‘s intimidation leadership style? I wish my generation had the guts to challenge our prostate stricken MCS. His arrongance will sure cost the rest of his stoogies, come 2016.

  34. I salute the bemba chiefs for speaking out on MCS ‘s intimidating leadership style? I wish my generation had the guts to challenge our prostate stricken MCS. His arrongance will sure cost the rest of his stoogies, come 2016.

  35. I think this is an eye opener to all meaningful Traditional rulers that they must never be intimidated. I love Gawa Undi who refused to be bribed with a Land cruiser from Toyota Zambia but went on to buy his own car from the same company the following day.

  36. President’s silence is respect enough for the chiefdom, find time and put the record right to sham the devil.viva visible projects and development.

  37. well spoken bashilubemba. Indeed the resident must know his boundaries too much interference. I wonder what even made them accept that he the president must have more powers than the chiefs especailly the paramounts. we need to revise whatever act of chiefs that Luo is refering to. the chiefs are born and not chosen.
I hope Sata and clue will take this message seriously and with a pinch of both salt and sugar. Just apologise and please bashilubemba do not back down. lets maintain the protocal of our traditions. Sata and his tribe is a subsidiary of our clan whom must pay homage.

    • I think the beautiful lady Nkandu Luo needs to crawl on her knees back ku lubemba and plead for forgiveness. Trying to please the cobra by turning against your own elders is scarcely wise. You can try to punish our chiefs by with-holding their cars and allowances but you and the cobra have surely failed to take away their integrity. The PF is a temporary arrangement that is here today and will be gone tomorrow, but our traditions and way of life will remain intact. Why turn yourself into a Judas Iscariot for a few rebased kwachas and a car? It’s difficult to appreciate that you and Sata have roots in Bembaland. Your attitude is definitely unBemba. Bible says: Pride is before the fall. Go back and apologise, the two of you.

  38. Well well……Bashi Lubemba have spoken.
What i know about Bembas, they prefer working with people who are not their tribes men. It has been surprising to see a cabinet full of bemba’s perhaps its the realization that when Tongas are in power, they will put their own there.
I stated noticing abd hearing about this in Mwanawasa, RB times and sadly it has continued.
Bemba’s don’t work well with fellow Bemba’s, alot of Tonga’s Lozi’s will tell you there are what they are because of a Bemba.

  39. @observer,
Many ,many thanks for translating the chiefs’ speech in much detail for the benefit of many people like me who do not understand the bemba language.

The speech will give the president some food for thought and hopefully he will reflect on it. Things are getting very tough for him, power struggle amongst his senior PF leaders and the rumblings from the PF cadres. All these and many other issues point directly to the president’s poor leadership style. The people are speaking simply because they want him to change for the better.

    • You regularly refer to Hichilema as “Hichidisabled”. Don’t you think this is blatant prejudice against the disabled in our society? You do not mean it as a term of endearment but rather scornfully imply that he is less able which says a lot about your attitude towards the disabled. Change your ways because no one chooses to lose their physical ability at any given time. It can happen to you as well. Once again, I beseech you, change!
