Catherine, Babirye set for ABU showdown

Share

Catherine Phiri enters the ring on Saturday at Mulugushi International Conference Centre to fight Toma-Hawa Babirye for the vacant African Boxing union women’s bantamweight crown.

The unbeaten 20-year-old enters the ring seeking for her seven successive win.

Phiri and her 28-year-old opponent have both vowed to emerge victorious in their customary pre-match talk with the Ugandan declaring a first round win over the Zambian boxer.

“She is good, I am good too, if she is not careful. I will knock her out,” Babirye said.

Babirye has a record of 16 win, four defeats and two draws.

“I am ready for her (Babirye), she said she will knock me out but she is yet to know me, instead her words will be the opposite,” Catherine said.

Meanwhile, sharing top billing will be ABU welterweight champion Charles Manuchi whose title is on the line against Isaac Sowah of Ghana.
