LABOUR and Social Security Minister Fackson Shamenda has directed Livingstone District Commissioner (DC) Omar Munsanje to probe and firmly deal with Hotels and Lodges in the tourist capital that are allegedly championing racism.

Mr Shamenda issued the directive on Tuesday when a Zambian Sanderson Sianjina and his wife as well as a Zambian pastor Haggai Mweene from Lusaka were denied access to Camp Nkwazi because the trio was black.

Camp Nkwazi is located about 20 kilometers (Km) from the town centre of the tourist capital near Zambezi River.

The trio who were turned back by a security officer from Camp Nkwazi gate under instructions from the lodge manager Jonathan Makaza were angered by the guards response that they could not be allowed in because the company did not allow blacks and the three reported the matter to the Livingstone City Council and the District Commissioner’s office.

Mr Shamenda directed Mr Munsanje to seriously curb the issue of racism in the tourist capital which was on the increase as it could affect the country’s tourism.

“ I am aware of racism in some hotels and lodges here in Livingstone because I was once a victim at Tongabezi, so I want you Mr Munsanje to clean up this mess because we are not going to allow a situation where Zambians are discriminated in their country,” Mr Shamenda said.

He said it was important for Zambians and other visitors to the country to be treated with respect and dignity even by foreign investors because Zambia was a country which fore-fathers fought for to get independence.

“As Government, we are not going to allow any form of discrimination of our people by any foreign investor.

If I hear that such things have continued, I will have no option but to liaise with my counterpart in Ministry of Foreign affairs so that such investors can be deported to their countries of origin,” Mr Shamenda said.

He said it was important for Zambians to enjoy the peace and freedom that the country had and that Government would not tolerate any form of discrimination.

And Mr Munsanje advised the Lodge owner Paul Oosthuizen and his managers to desist from promoting racism.

Mr Munsanje said there was need for investors to change their approach towards Zambians because the country had embraced everyone.

He said he wanted to see a situation where Zambians were given access to tourism facilities because the country was no longer in the colonial days.

Meanwhile, Camp Nkwazi Director Pual Oosthuizen said there was a misunderstanding at the gate between the guard and the visitors.

Mr Oosthuizen said the lodge also accommodates blacks except that they needed to make bookings on the internet.

He said the situation was unfortunate and asked for forgiveness and offered the aggrieved couple and the clergyman to stay on the company’s account but the trio refused.

  1. Muzungu anikonde is alive and well in zambia in the 21st century. Sad,sad occurence in a zambia that is supposedly more educated and more informed than ever before.

    • Black people are very forgiving and Zambians generally fear these pigmentally challenged people.
Its time Zambians became proud of who they are and not always be trampled upon by these racist infesters.

Generally there are very few pigmentally challenged people that are good and friendly towards blacks.

Look at what happens in football, they make monkey chants at black players and we just look. why cant we also start making pig noises at them?

believe me if blacks are the ones that enslaved and colonized white people they would still be at war with all blacks around the world to this day.

Its time we looked at the issue of racism differently

    • Sad ! Thats why nchitila sana abasungu while i`m in their territory because i`m just trying to do what the whiteman has been doing to black people for generations(fu**ing them).Ndebwesha revenge.

    • It’s true. While we are busy fighting among ourselves about tribalism, these chaps are busy invading using our own brothers. Shame

  2. This story makes a sad reading. I am so angry. I wish the guards could be afforded to live in the western countries for few months and interact with these people, they could have treated their own kind differently am sure.

  3. We fly, eat, drink and sleep with all whites anywhere anyhow. Then who is the white full causing emotion stress. My advice that those chaps to court and claim damages for stress caused on you. Do wait for the failed state.

  4. He is south african why am I not surprised! Kick these s.t.u.p.i.d.y boers out. There was no misunderstanding! it was blantant racism!

  5. shamenda is toothless fool, this is a very serious issue which requires his action he dodges it and delegates another toothless bastard who just raps the knuckles of the lodge owners with a soft sponge.very inept these coolies are.this idddiot deserved to have his lodge closed and put on the netx bus to south africa not even plane.the victims wont get the justice they deserved

    • I am with you, pan! Shamenda has to understand that this has little to do with tourism but everything to do with our rights and human didgnity.
The racist managers/owners of that camp desrve to be booted out of this country! We are better off without such stupid and outdated invstors. Kick the buggers out or cancel their licence, I say!

  6. many ba zungu’s are racists against us, futi ma black racist against ourselves? nishi will we survive zo’ona? lets be serious

    • they probably went there with bleached skin and wearing fake straight hair … showing no self respect, how do they accept to be respected. If a muzungu came to me wearing a afro wig i wouldn’t take him seriously.

  7. Other hotels in Livingstone have parcelled out accesd to the Victoria Falls unless you are a guest at their pricy hotels. This means they are the ones makibg money of Vicyotua Falls and keeping Zambians out of accessing it as they can hardly afford to stay at their hotels! !!!

  8. Mr. Oosthuizen this is not South Africa.Zambia needs to ,mitigate the influx of boers in our country. These are the same people that perpetrated apartheid crimes in RSA. Zambian human rights defenders need to stand up against this unfair and inhumane treatment

  9. Is it possible that some Zambian blacks in the past lodged at this place and left a mess and unsettled bills? One thing I know about Zambian blacks is that they don’t value cleanliness.

Just look at Shamenda himself. He does not shave his beard clean and he refuses to pay his workers. I wonder why he did not refer this matter to Silvia to deal with it? Is he the new Tourism Minister?

This is how we lose respect! We need to be serious first, then we will be taken seriously!

    • Do not insult Zambians. Who do you think can leave a white Boer hotel without paying a bill. If you dirty thus you. In fact you not seen how dirty these pink/piggish look.
Can not clean even a coffee cup. Withdraw your sentiments are not valid.

    • May be you have never lived with whites in the same house or hostel that is why you adore them and insult black Zambians like that. Some of the whites are so dirty that you can only compare them to free-range pigs. The boers are racists and racism is in their genes. The owner of that lodge should have been summoned to the appropriate office where the riot act should have been read out to him. Instead the so called minister took a softly softly approach. The boers and whites in general only toe the line if you use the Malema or Mugabe language nothing else.

    • I think having Guy Scott as a VP has made some of these DOGS to have wings!

We are not going to SACRIFICE our own freedom at the expense of pleasing stupid Hyenas like you!!!

  10. Makes very sad reading indeed but I am proud of our BLACK Zambians for even refusing the stu–pid offer of staying for mahala as compensation. These vibazungu can even tundila in your food if you take up such offer. To the trio, take this chimuzungu chopusa and his lodge to court, you cannot allow to be treated like that in your own land by a chima foreigner. Very fullish, why be in Africa if he hates blacks!pepekeni imbwa iyo. Viva black power!

  11. This is happening even at some establishments in lusaka. Boers are a problem and we’ve let a lot of them in lately. I blame immigration, soon we’ll have aparthied pa zed.

  12. This behavior must not be tolerated at all cost, govt should set an example on this one. Stiff punishment is required or the lodge closes and the owner kicked out of the country. In this era we do not need and expect such behavior from those foreigners. Muzungu should not be entertained when he crosses the line, this chap must be made to pay for his careless and unwarranted behavior. Such people should not be tolerated because they are like that in nature and they are bound to repeat the offence. I hope we have some laws to severely deal with racism in the country!

  13. We are so pre-occupied with tribalism and hate speech that we are not watching the invasion of racists and their behavior slip right under our noses.

  14. If anyone ever qualified for immediate deportation, it is this stinking white Afrikaner trash. Kick him out of the country now before he pollutes our classless society. There was no misunderstanding at all !! My greatest disappointment is that a black so called lodge manager could carry out such a racist instruction..deport him to his village. Please Shamenda deport this white man now. He is simply testing the waters to see if he can import racism from South Africa on a large scale.

  15. I experienced such myself and it was in Livingstone. The guard put it to me straight, “Boss, pano ni bazungu chabe”. I made a scene causing the white owner to come to the gate. The pig protected the gaurd saying he was just doing his job, and asked what he could do for me in a ‘by the way’ tone. I wanted accomodation. He insisted they were fully booked. It still pains me, but there is notrhing I could do when he pulled the ‘fully booked’ card on me.

  16. I personally get very angry when these fancy hotels (in Zambia) tell me that they do not save Zambian dishes such as Nshima…what madness is that!! That is just a way of saying “No Zambians here!”

    • ..@mike…exactly my line of thots….Jesus on a bicycle….such incidences are happening in this age and in Africa…God help…..i’m so upset that i’m visiting the place this weekend….i.m sure the complainants are credible enough to warrant the immediate closure of the camp, suspend the licence while the probe is on… just to show the seriousness of the allegation…

    • Granted one has to follow the law, but unless stern action is taken against such, these boers will see nothing wrong in what they are doing in covertly practicing racism. Hit them financially but closure, then a message will be sent out that there is Zero tolerance of racism in Zambia.

  17. Whilst i agree that there could be truth in that there was racism, but can’t it also be true that when the trio where told that they did not book online they decided to react to “teach the company a lesson” by accusing them of racism. The question is, is there record that black people go there too. If there has never been any black person going there, then it means that is it is likely true but if there has been a number of black people going there already then it is likely that the trio are not telling the truth. Lets be objective and seek the truth.

    • A hotel or lodge can not only have one mode of reservation. Unless the facility was full, but for anyone who has travelled around will testify that if one has not made a reservation, that can be made at the reception at reservation desk if rooms are available.

    • @Trigo
You think its perfectly normal to be turned away at the gate, and not even allowed to approach the reservation desk inside the facility?

They were not even afforded the opportunity to check other availability times at the reservation desk!

Please, call a spade a spade and don’t give racism latitude in our own country.

  18. This is madness, tikayenda kwao batiponyera ma bananas, tunshaba mistaking us with monkeys; now kwathu futi, they are limiting us that we cannot access it because we are black. I have personally suffered racism and I hate strongly that someone should limit my freedom because I am an African. more worse I am saddened to hear that these things should happen in my country. I have to say that this is an act of umbuli, I think the Government should take this matter serious. you mean these bazungus wants to lower our self-esteem even in our country? Matuvi!!!!!!!!!!!

  19. This is bullsh#t. What is wrong with being black? That lodge should be brought down. I am imagining what if i went there with my hubby, would they allow him in and leave me with our children cos we are not white? My hubby wouldnt agree to that bullsh#t

  20. Where are the PF cadres? I have a job for you. Go to this lodge and burn it down. I will pay for the buses for Lusaka based cadres. Protect us from this Boer, Kabimba is ok. This boer has insulted the same man you want to endorse as sole candidate for 2016!! Come on cadres flex you muscles and save your master from this kind of humiliation. And where is Sylvia Masebo or is it Misebo? Do something for God’s sake!!

  21. The ***** has agree he chases local people away. Why ask someone to book via internet when he is already at your place. This is a way to turn away local people. You use internet if you are far away from the lodge. Not from within. Hope authorities will deal with him firmly.

  22. Thanks for censoring the bad word I used. I just got annoyed that some foreigner can do that in our own land. And this is just after the ended WTO! How can we sell our country to others like this.

  23. Watch the attitude of some Black Nurses at one Company Clinic in Kitwe , they make me sick , the way they treat Black Zambian patients , sometimes you wonder wether they are real Nurses or House Maids .

    • Name the clinic. Don’t be afraid. Such things need to be brought out in the open

  24. Manager + security Guard should be SACKED with immediate effect, & Nkwazi Lodge have its licence to operate revoked, meaning Shutting down this Racist establishment for good.
Only such action will serve as an example & deterrent to anyone who contemplates to, or discriminates against owners of the continent. We all know a lot of these Racists have brought their ways from South Africa & Zimbabwe, where their Racism is NOT Tolerated.

  25. there are several of these type of lodges and hotels along the river which restrict access to ‘residents only’, which is the modern way of practicing racism. as their rates are prohibitive to Zambians- $250 and above per person, they ensure themselves an almost exclusively white clientele. one can’t even go in for a meal or a drink to enjoy the view, you are told at the gate by a security guard with a radio that they are at capacity and have no room for extra guests! its terrible that what I experienced on a family holiday 15 yrs ago, is what I’ve found still happening today. when will change come?

  26. You PF, this is an Issue where you can mobilize your cadres so they go and Teach good lesson these Mubunu from South Africa. Baletudelela sana aba amabunu.
Is it may be coz our women put on the white’s wig signifying that white’s hair is superior to Blacks’??? Please , summon this mubunu as soon as possible. This is not South Africa.

Peace and Prosperity to Mother Zambia.

    • He is probably from South Africa and established this lodge for fellow racists to come and recline and reload for their apartheid war

    • All thees accusations are untru – I have stayed there with my family and while I was there the rest of the lodge was occupied by black angolan tourists !

  27. That’s why I find it ironic when I hear Zambians calling people from one tribe as Bakolwe! Here in Europe I hear monkey chants at some football grounds when a blackman touches the ball. It makes no difference where in Africa or even Caribbean you come from.

  28. This chap is cheeky! Says book via the Internet!! -SO THAT YOU HAVE TO PAY IN FOREX & THE MONEY NEVER GETS TO ZAMBIA!!! THIS IS WHAT THE GOVT SHOULD BE CURBING!!! Enact an ACT THAT ENFORCES 75% of BOOKING FEES TO COME TO ZED!!!
the issue of racism probably comes second from FOREX FLIGHT in an economy such as ours!!!!!

  29. I am giving this Po.oF government three days in which to throw that boer tramp called Oosthuizen out of the country. If by Sunday that Afrikaaner has not crossed the boder I will set the PF cadres on Kashikoti (Guy Scot) in retaliation. Pf cadres get ready, you now have a legitimate cause.

  30. i experienced that problem in Falls town in Dec 1998 as we went to book at a Muzungu lodge with my 4 kids and wife, we were told by a black maid that the owner who sent the maid to tell us that the dogs were not too familiar with blacks would give us hell each time we needed to go out of the lodge. Contact me on 0978040412 if you want to hear my account. We went back to the border and lodged at the then Zambezi Lodge. I work in the tourism sector i have seen and encountered this many times but on our land, i always fight and hit back.

  31. Shamenda, Why are you waiting for the action “to continue” before taking action? Once is enough.
Shut that sh!t down and send Mr Ooze-faeces back from where he came.

Mr Sianjani, Mr Mweene and wife wouldn’t you like to own that lodge? Sue the bastard!

  32. Big ups to Sanderson & Lweendo for standing your ground. Many a-Zedian would have shrieked and taken the easy way out at the bribe of free stay at the lodge. In standing up for your principles you stood up for the many voiceless natives of our mother land who suffer such abuse in the land of our fathers. Thank u Sanderson & Lweendo from 14million Zambians

  33. Maybe this Ooze-faeces guy doesn’t read LT.

Someone get the phone number for this lodge so we can let him know. Maybe he’s accessible on their website.

  34. How come no one talks about the places that none Black Zambians are not allowed to visit ? Just because you are; Mr or Mrs Boma, does not automatically mean that you can intrude into my privacy at will, be you Black or White and with better means than you may perceive I have. The Zambian Constitution protects the right of any Zambian to reserve the right of admission unto their property. However, this right for both the Zambian races to speak freely without being harassed one way or the other, remains a blurred thin line. One must watch and fear ones accusations of the other, lest one be accused of such a crime against humanity as racism is; before the truth be told.

This is interesting. Deserves the “Order of the Green Buffalo.” You can come to my Digs, just make sure you call up…

  35. These *****s need to be sysmatically investigated, and i mean all of them where ever they maybe located and once we discover they practice such outdated evil acts then we ought to deal with them satanically with no mercy then deport them back to their countries of origin,or they risk dieing like there colour cousins(pigs) shame!

  36. I think having Guy Scott as a VP has made some of these guys to have wings!

Lets not SACRIFICE our own freedom at the expense of pleasing stupid Hyenas!!!

  37. Government needs to enact a law that will punish, both monetary and with jail time, anyone who promotes and practices racism. Threat of deportation is not enough. There are also some local Businesses who mistreat locals and offer favours to anyone who looks lighter skinned.
