Government blames MMD and UNIP for high number of youth unemployment

Share

Government has attributed the current high number of youth unemployment in the country to failure by former successive governments to integrate young people in national development.

And Mansa Trades Training Institute (MTTI) has partnered with government and other stakeholders to train 330 youths in various skills in order to make them self-reliant.

Luapula Province Permanent Secretary, Chanda Kasolo, observed that previous governments lacked the vision to offer meaningful opportunities for young people to acquire life skills to sustain their livelihoods.

ZANIS reports that Mr Kasolo said this in a speech read for him by Luapula Province Deputy Permanent Secretary, Joyce Nsamba, during the official launch of a three-month Intensive Youth Skills Development Training Program in Mansa today.

Mr Kasolo explained that the majority of Zambian youths have since remained unemployed, ill educated and without any survival life skills to enable them earn a living in society and contribute meaningfully to national development.

“Since the Patriotic Front (PF) government came into power, it has started to implement measures to empower the youths to participate in different activities of the economy,” he said.

He further explained that the PF government in Luapula Province has since identified some focal areas that need urgent skills such as infrastructural development, agriculture, tourism, manufacturing and mining as some of the areas where youths could benefit.

The Provincial Permanent Secretary stated that government has formulated an intensive three months skills training program with flexible academic entry point requirements as a practical way of incorporating them in national development.

“The government will continue supporting such youth training innovations in the province as a way of raising a profile of available skilled personnel.

Mr Kasolo pointed out that the government is further committed to sustain skills training programs and other projects as evident by its increased financial support to the education sector.

He reiterated that government’s annual budgetary allocation to the education sector affirms its commitment to address the developmental needs of the youths.

“We are indebted to President Michael Sata’s desire to improve the welfare of disadvantaged and marginalised sectors of society”, he added.

Earlier, Acting Mansa Trades Training Institute (MTTI) Principal, Ocean Matimba, commended government for involving other stakeholders in addressing some of the current skills gap among the youths.

Mr Matimba blamed the previous Technical Education and Vocational Training System for being discriminatory in nature as it lamentably failed to meet the training needs of school drop-outs from the general education school system.

“There is clear empirical evidence that at every examination stage in general education system, there are learners who fail to progress to the next level of education. The reasons for learners to dropout from school system are due to failure to meet the progression requirements and others due to limited places,” he said.

The Government, National Project for Poverty Reduction (NPPR), Technical Education, Vocational, Entrepreneurship Training Authority (TEVETA) and Plan International have partnered with Mansa Trades Training Institute (MTTI) to train 330 youths in various skills at no cost in order to make them self-reliant.

The youths are being trained in bricklaying, carpentry and joinery, general agriculture, food production and automotive mechanics among many others.

  1. I blame my greatgrandfather that he easily gave up our lands to the white imperialists, thats why i dont own land in lusaka. if he didnt give up that land,i would have a piece of land in chipata, lusaka and mongu.

  2. So PF is telling us that KK is a failure and for this reason they hired him to be their number one consultant. That makes a lot of sense.

  3. Kaunda, Sata, Chikwanda, Kasonde, Luo, Scott, etc were all part and parcel of UNIP and MMD or both! What has Sata ever done apart from feed from a government trough?

  4. This blame game is not helping our country, just work ,show us what you can do to improve zambia and stop blaming others because by so doing you are actually blaming yourself, unip, mmd and pf(bamozi na bamozi)

  5. poverty is making kasolo to talk like this to please the paymaster he wants to eat i dont think he doesnt know that pf is recycled politicians.

  6. If I get a civil service job today and I am 25 years old, it would take 40 years for that position to be available to another person. If I retired at 55 and I was paid benefits immediately, they would only wait for 30 years. Secondly, I would create incomes for others from my terminal benefits through job creation and business to others through my purchases. Try public works for immediate job creation. Divert money from by-elections, bloated civil service and executive.

  7. MMD and UNIP to blame? Sata was senior person in both governments. Hey I rest my case cos I get so confused by trying to follow and understand the reasoning of this PF fellows. Sata’s salary must be equated to SADC salary, when the government has no money. I pay my maid R2200 per month (K1364000 UNREBASED). Can the government consider bringing the salaries of these poor souls in line with SADC salaries (if there is anything like that). Now according to Shamenda, we must pay for Sata’s past povrty /simple life he led before comining into power!! Why is the post so quite on all these and yet still hell bent on attacking RB and late Chiluba at any given opportunity?

  8. We fought for indipendence, and we got it, that was a greater achievement, no other party can claim they did that.
We put up structures which MMD came to erase down and closed all the companies we had put up, Ndola became a dead town after we peacefully handed over power to MMD. You are still Blaming us, for WHAT ? Did we not do what Napeleon failed to do and yet you still look 30 years back and blame us for bringing independence to Zambia ?
    THAT IS NONSENSE

  9. The PF is overwhelmed and do not know what to do and just resorted to the blame game. These are signs that the PF have failed; it is a failed government that should not have been elected in the first place because they had no clue on how to govern. For how long are they going to continue blaming others for failure to perform? Does it mean the 2 years they have been in government are insufficient for them to show the direction they wish to take us? This government is most incompetent and confused I have ever seen. Cabinet ministers do not know why they are in government. All they are doing is loot our resources. We are watching all of them and time will come for all of them to pay what they have fraudulently taken from our treasury. We will follow all of them until we make them pay back.

  10. Sata and most of his colleagues are both UNIP and MMD. Nothing good can come out of pf. I suggest we look for the next President who is less 60. Nkote zizativuta chabe….nkalamba should go to land. When Sata leaves the office, they should follow him or we shall make them to do so in style.

  11. When i was in grade three Daniel Munkombwe was mcc for southern province(unip),again under mmd southern province minister and now under pf shame.can someone tell me can it only be munkombwe with wisedom?

  12. Ka kasolo just keeping enjoying eating tax payers money. I know you are desperate to show your uncle who gave you the position that your are working.
PF is made up of ex unip and mmd members your uncle inclusive.

  13. Problem bantu sibafuna family planning. Reduce the size of your families and contribute to reducing such problems as youth unemployment.

  14. Izo yai aChanda namwe. “Sembe Boza, limalembeka pamakumbu, sembe zuwa, zuwa simawala, ndaba kumwamba sembe kuli black! Ndaba kumwamba sembe kunambuwa.”

  15. Ubufi wa ba PF nauseates like their faces. UNIP left long time ago and MMD left some employment in various sectors and reserves of money in the country. PF government is overwhelmed with governance of the nation and now can only make hullabaloo commentary. BUFI.

  16. Nothing has changed, its the same people in different colors which is parts in this matter, from UNIP, MMD and now PF. What a defense makernism as a part you have made instead of just accepting, bad manners.
