Government procures 160 ambulances

Share

GOVERNMENT has procured 160 basic life support ambulances at a cost over of K420 million to help in emergency cases.

The ambulances which are equipped with basic life support equipment for pre-hospital care would be distributed to health facilities around the country.

Health minister Joseph Kasonde made the disclosure yesterday when he handed over some of the ambulances to Copperbelt Provincial medical officer Consity Mwale at Ndeke House in Lusaka yesterday.

Dr Kasonde said the increase in the number of road accidents, non communicable diseases and maternity cases had compelled the Ministry of Health to embark on a coordinated response through the directorate of mobile and emergency health services.

“What we are witnessing today is the realization of the PF Government‘s commitment to ensuring the achievement of providing quality healthcare services to all the people of Zambia,” Dr Kasonde said.

Dr Kasonde said the Ministry was focused on strengthening emergency health services in order to ensure efficiency and effectiveness in the delivery of emergency health care at all levels of the health system.

Dr Kasonde also disclosed that a further 42 state of the art life saving advanced ambulances had been procured and would soon arrive in the country.

He said the drivers of the ambulances had undergone special training to equip them with knowledge and skills adding that so far 85 drivers had completed the training.

Dr Kasonde hailed the cooperating partners who had continued to support the Ministry in the provision of emergency services adding that Government could not meet the demand of emergency services alone.

“We are therefore calling for enhanced stakeholder involvement as this was vital in achieving the needed success,” he said.

  1. there needs to be a comprehensive emergency response system in place, otherwise the ambulances will be of little use

  2. There are two ministries handling matters of health in Zambia the first of this style widewide! Strange, not so? Hospitals do not do much referals. Primary health care where the majority are underprivilaged are offered @ Clinics in another ministry not mentioned even a bit! Sad indeed. There are no Ambulances in this sector at local levels! Confusion as usual in PF Gvnt!

  3. line them up and do a count live on TV, count each and everyone of them, plus a tour of the interior, we dont want to be duped here. you know zambians are very forgetful, after this news no one will even remember this news and the ambulances will be governments personal use

  4. First and last batch of them; that is how we are hoondwinked in Zambia – a figure is announced, then a bit is delivered, and no one remembers what happened to the balances, e.g. two owner driver buses launched in Chipata, while others were ‘still coming’! What prevents the govt from ordering everything at a go, and receiving at the same time, so that there is no uneven distribution of these things – others are received a year later, new, while others are already looking kike second hand – which may auger well with the PF policy on second-hand vehicles, and end up improting fonkongs for other provinces!

  5. This is really good… Lets hope these ambulances will be accessible by all Zambians and not only the few well to do people.

Peace and Prosperity to Mother Zambia.

  6. Thats good. Next time buy some planes/helicopters as well. Flying doctor services if I remember so well indeed worked well.

  7. I hope those drivers are just PF cadres. How come we are never told about these things in the first place and to hear this or that has been done and people have been trained. Where is the transparency in this govt? How were those drivers picked, what criteria was used Mr minister?

  8. I HOPE MUCHINGA, CENTRAL, LUSAKA, SOUTHERN, COPPERBELT EASTERN AND NORTHWESTERN PROVINCES WILL GET A LARGE SHARE OF THE ADVANCED LIFE SUPPORT AMBULANCES AS THEY ARE PLACES THAT RECORD HIGH NUMBERS OF ACCIDENTS. KAPIRI MPOSHI – NAKONDE ROAD IS THE MOST DANGEROUS ROUTE. THE DRIVERS FROM TANZANIA DRIVE LIKE THERE IS NO TOMORROW. THEY DO IT A HIGH NECK SPEED. THERE IS NEED FOR INTENSIVE HIGH WAY PATROLS ON THIS ROAD.

  9. Kasonde, just stop impressing Zambians that your PF is working had at all. You should show that hospitals and clinics have very efficient and well paid Drs, Nurses and relevant attendants, and above all, that medicine and other medical facilities are all over there.

If it is true that you do have these vehicles, where will you take the sick to? If the hospital buildings are there, they have no said facilities. Will you be taking people to go and die un attended to? Try some better bluffing.
