Kambwili wants U20 bench fired

Share

Sports minister Chishimba Kambwili has demanded the firing of Zambia under-20 coaches following the team’s failure to defend the Cosafa Youth Championships.

The Oswald Mutapa coached side were eliminated from the regional tournament in the group stage after finishing third on four points, three behind Group C winners South Africa who beat the Junior Chipolopolo last Saturday.

Kambwili fumed over Zambia’s unsuccessful outing in Lesotho.

“Let us be serious with the Under-20 and Under 17. That is the nursery for the national team but if we are going to perform the way we performed I don’t think it will go well with the ministry,’’ he said.

“To the technical bench at Under -20, watch out, give us results, we are not going to spend taxpayers money through FAZ on nonsense, we want results.

“My recommendation to FAZ is to complete overhaul the team and the technical bench I am not happy at all,” Kambwili said.

Zambia wrapped up their group C outing with a 4-0 win over winless Seychelles on Tuesday.

  1. Zambians always want to bring fellow Zambians down! Why can’t you say the same when a white man is in charge of the team? Why not give a directive to fire the National team coach? Mutapa is a very good coach and if he is given time and resources, he can be one of the best coaches in Zambia. Don’t fire him. Give him time.

    • We know you recently graduated from kamaschool somewhere with students i taught and if you are not happy chill bamani.
Zambia is a three time winner of this cup, so, you thought it was like MPs, ruling till dearth do you a party. NO!! we are happy ourselves.

    • Very good coach? Which team does he coach? Thot was recently fired for under performing which he now took to under 20. Let’s be serious be KK

  2. Get an experienced national team manager Mr. Buffoon ….he will best advise you what to do and how to reinforce the foundation. If you opt for useless people like Patrice you reap what you sow NOTHING!

  3. I am very disappointed that most Zambians have limited ambitions and believe in mediocre achievements. If we have consistent in major global achievements we need to be the best with what do.The resources min of sports and faz commit to these national program-mes should be cherished and respected. Lets ask ourselves why our young boys playing for under 17,20 and 23 don’t break into competitive leagues, like the young lads from west, north and south African countries.Let the minister and faz not settle for mediocrity in football development,no!lets hire people with vision for the nation and not people like mutapa and jere who after personal ambition. Please these two gentlemen in the interest of progress.

  4. Mr Kambwili !when did you become an expert in soccer development?FAZ must be the ones to be fired. How long and how much was put into preparation of the U20 team for the tournament? Our neighbours Namibia commenced preparation way back in August. They went to Ghana and played friendlies with various Ghanaian football academy teams and look at their performance.
Zimbabwe has a policy of fielding at least 4 U20 players in each premier league game.In South Africa, all 1st division teams must field a number of U20 players.Foreigners are restricted to play in this league. In addition they have a number of soccer academies supported by sports giants like Nike and Supersport.

Mr. Kambwili what we need in Zambia is a total overhaul of youth football development beginning with the U12,U17 in both women and men’s football teams. There is need to come up with proper structures in each district to run the youth football development.
If we want to get rid of the tree of mediocrity in youth football we must uproot the whole tree and not prune the leaves. It calls for seriousness on the part of FAZ to expose our youth coaches to modern football coaching methods.Send them to Spain,Netherlands and Germany football academies to see how they prepare their youths. This tournament was a wake up call to FAZ that teams in the region are no longer the weeping boys.If we don’t address the mediocre type of performance of our teams, then we better just concentrate on…

  6. Over this,i really support Kambwili.even in Europe they do fire if you are not performing.Give back good results, the job is yours.Next it should be that muzungu who went to kenya, the play was below any standard of a national team,it was pathetic. That’s why we struggled with Lesotho and failed a place to go to Brazil.

  7. this is just 2 inform u that, chishimba and faz are blank.why talking about ud 20 insteady of toking abt real isues of the nation team.it is very surprising.the nation team performance is below pur.zambia is perfomance at cecafa,it is vry much disapoiting. patrice i not a coach.

  8. This sounds like govt interference in the running of football bwana minister. Plas check with FAZ before FIFA picks up this anormali of your office directing FAZ. Yes, it is a perception, since you have not categorically directed, but perceptions rule the world. As your govt was perceived to be capable of delivering hence you are in power.

  9. The poor performance by the team can be attributed to poor team selection and lack of skills by the technical bench to read the game and adjust to suit the conditions. The technical bench got it all wrong as was evidenced by the comments made by the coach at the end of each game. In the first game which was a must win, the coach complained of the pitch and claimed his side had played better and promised to beat South Africa. Tactically, Namibia was a better side and could have won the game. Our boys played long and high balls which Namibia handled with ease. In the second game, our plays were not comfortable on the ball and the team shot at the goal three times. Again, South Africa had a better game plan and dictated play. They deserved to win. The third game was of no signicance.

  10. Why is Kambwili, the whole a minister, talking about stuff like that? He should be concerned with policy and not who is supposed to be fired in organizations. Ifibantu ifi tafyaishibe ncito nakalya. Na bola ine eco tulushila! Ba kambwili ubututu muleke!
