Southern Province Permanent Secretary Bert Mushala has urged teachers to read the Patriotic Front (PF) manifesto and understand the new educational policies which government is implementing.

Mr Mushala said government was developing the education sector in line with fundamental policies contained in the PF manifesto aimed at providing quality education to the people.

He was speaking in Choma yesterday when he addressed headmasters from various schools across the district that gathered for a two day training workshop on the development of the new education curriculum.

Mr Mushala said the development of the new curriculum by the ministry of education was aimed at enhancing education standards in the country.

He said it was important for teachers to work diligently to ensure that the children benefit fully from government efforts of providing quality education to all.
“If you read the PF manifesto, you will be able to understand various polices Government is introducing, therefore I urge you to read the PF manifesto and implement in line with the document to promote the education sector, “he said

Mr Mushala said that if teachers acquainted themselves with the manifesto, it would be easier for them to provide quality educational policies to people in line with Government’s desire.

He urged the head teachers to ensure discipline in Schools and produce productive children in society who will have the ability to contribute meaningfully to the development of the country in future.

Mr Mushala noted that government was deeply concerned on the fact that many pupils were unable to read and write.

“After 50 years of independence we are still producing pupils who cannot read and write, it’s unfortunate that the literate teachers are producing illiterates” he said

Mr Mushala urged the school head teachers to influence good work culture amongst teachers in Schools and ensure that the new curriculum serves the intended purpose.
And speaking at the same occasion Choma District Education Board Secretary Mutinta Mubanga said Choma district was keen to implement the new curriculum immediately.

She acknowledged that many pupils from various schools in Choma were unable to read and write even at grade seven level which affects their school performance.

Mrs Mubanga said with the coming of the new curriculum she is confident early grade teaching and learning shall improve.

And Mr Mushala added that the PF manifesto was an important document which all civil servants needed to acquaint themselves with as they undertake their tasks accordingly.

  1. IN THE FIRST place, the same chap does not understand the PF manifesto, Zambian politics are not Manifesto oriented, they are character oriented..if the reverse was right would we have had the incumbent in state house……………..

    • A manifestal is just a piece of documents which any party or anyone can write. What matters is the level of commitment attached to serving the people and poverty aliviation. What is the essence of having a manifestal which you can not even adhere to.

    • By the way can someone remind this civil servant that it is not his place to be talking about a party manifesto. Where is the Civil Service Public Commission to discipline this civil servant turned into a politician on the govt ticket.

    • Is the teaching curriculum embedded in the PF manifesto. Muhhhhsalapanse are you not one of those who used to give pressure to KK?
Anyway, there is a difference between Manifesto and policies and between a civil servant and a politician.

  2. Since when did a party manifesto have anything to do with the general running of our country? Are these failures in government trying to turn this country into some sort of China under Mao Zedong or USSR under Stalin? I Am trying not to be scared, but it isn’t working!!!

  3. PS, please leave that to Ministers. You are the policy implementer and are therefore the one to read the PF manifesto to help you put government policies into context. Headmasters role is to implement the curriculumn at the level of their respective schools.

  4. IS IT THE GOVERNMENT POLICY OR PF POLICY ON EDUCATION WE SHOULD READ AND UNDERSTAND????????????????????????????????????????????????????

  5. “After 50 years of independence we are still producing pupils who cannot read and write, it’s unfortunate that the literate teachers are producing illiterates”

What about re-educating majority of Ministers in order to be able to read and understand various White Papers, Bills and Points of Order?

  6. Ba Mushala, a Party Manifesto is not Policy(ies),but intentions or dreams of a Party.Civil Servants work with policies. So if you PF cadres formulate policies from your manifesto and give them to the civil servants, maybe it can work.Policies are made by pipo who are sharp and well schooled and not the PF retards. They only strive on BUFI.

  7. Does this mean that every government which comes into power will have to change the curriculum to suite their manifesto?
