Elias Mpondela has been expunged of all charges in the Moscowgate scandal by the National Sports Council of Zambia and his ZAAA executive committee has been reinstated.
Mpondela’s executive was dissolved on Saturday after it was found guilty for dropping coach Felix Mbuye from the travelling party to the 2013 World Athletics Championship in Moscow last summer after allegations surfaced that the trainers place was taken by the ZAAA presidents female companion.
NSCZ board chairperson Emmanuel Katebe said the verdict was reversed after the supreme sports body’s disciplinary committee was availed with fresh evidence surrounding Moscowgate.
“I wish to notify the nation that upon receiving fresh information, the committee reconvened today (Sunday) and has decided to reverse the verdict meted out to the president and his executive committee of Zambia Amateur Athletics Association (ZAAA),” Katebe said.
“The said information was not availed to the committee at the time of the earlier sitting.”
Meanwhile, NSCZ has maintained rulings in four other cases including a five year sporting ban on National Olympic Committee vice president Dr Gabriel Munyinda for bouncing a cheque during Zambia’s hosting of the Zone 6 Volleyball tournament.
Zambia Pool Union were also reprimanded for not informing the NSCZ of its president Tom Michelo documented criminal activities while Zambia Basketball Association vice president Conrad Musonda’s three month suspension stands.
The Zambia Amateur Boxing Federation has also been reprimanded for late submission of their affiliation fees.

please, we know uyu mdala aliya ku moscow na ba gelo bakwe!!! cleared kwisa. then who was that lady that went with him. we saw them in moscow. does she work for ZAAA? tell us, give us her name and the position she occupies mu ZAAA. if not how did she go moscow and what was she doing there? did she pay for herself or what? this is what people wanted to hear, not just saying ati he has been cleared. Mponela you are old and you should move away from such things. blood hounds like you have been haunting us in sports,economy etc ever since i can remember. nga muka chita retire lisa?

What does NSCZ do really? This org. need to be dissolved immediately. Mpondela need to retire in national interest. I don’t know why he clings to ZAAA. Kabolala wamupamba uyu.

Mpondela has links in all governments. No case brought against him shall stand. He swindled Phoenix contractors out of loads of money. During MMD elections, he was found on katondo streets with ballot papers in the back of his sons car, billions from National Housing Authority went missing but all these cases have gone ZzZzZz…..
All he knows in organising at ZAAA is inter company relay which is of no relevance but a money spinner,nothing about traditional truck and field events because they drain his pockets
Which new evidence was availed? NSCZ has not given us any information as to why he was cleared for taking an athletics team without a coach, and why Mpodela`s girl friend found herself in the delegation.
But why blame Mpondela?You should blame yourselves.You are the ones who voted for PF and its nonsense.NSCZ is now headed by Mwamba Kalenga courtesy of Kambwili.When you listen to Mwamba Kalenga you cant even tell what he is talking about.The man speaks as if he is senile.
Just for bloggers info, The Moscowgate was not suppose to be an issue, coz Elias Mpondela paid all expenses for his girlfriend, in fact, from Moscow, I met him in Dubai for 4 days with the same woman before coming bck to Zambia. They have been to several places together with her. Elias has a lot of enemies in both ZAAA and NSCZ, the only thing which keeps him walking his head upright is his straightforwardness and truthfulness. The problem with Elias is that, he embraces everyone including his enemies, and believe me bloggers, that is what will kill him. Elias is a threat to a number of pipo at the MSYCD, NSCZ and to some ZAAA members eg Chipalo and the group. In summary they wil neva manage him with such motives, Elias can coz Zambia to be suspended by IAAF for a very long period
Why take a girlfriend on a business trip? That is why every one was suspicious and what all expenses did he pay for the girlfriend?
Mr Mpondela could have taken a female companion but he paid all expenses from his pocket, not a single coin from ZAAA was used. Now, you tell me whether this is an offence. We should not blow non-issues out of proportion. There are issues that need our energy; issues such as the constitution, government over borrowing, infringement on people’s human rights by the PF government, lack of freedom of expression, high mealie meal prices, the nullification of parliamentary seats by a fraudulent supreme court, corruption in RDA, compromised ACC and DEC, the list goes on.
Elias is single for all I know and there is nothing wrong with him going to Moscow with a partner. On this one, I think we are being hypocrites to make an issue. Since when did infidelity become an issue in our country, wrong as it is? We only remember that we are a Christian nation when it is convenient, i.e. gay issues. When stealing or cheating regarding public funds occurs at high levels, we say, it was just a small amount. What a society we have become!!!
Please take note that Elias and his exective never appeared before the NSCZ last year.Mr Mwamba Kalenga was the vice chairman of NSCZ.It was a letter that was written to theNSCZ
